Hey Edar! 👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾 Unfortunately our trip is completely booked. We are going up from May 13 to May 17th. The captain of our charter takes six people per trip. We divide the expenses between the 6 of us. The captain will take less than 6 people but it will be more expensive. He has a set price. Also the captain that we booked last year was not our regular guy that we have used for years. Our regular captain had been suffering from complications from covid. But this year he is healthy. And we are glad to have him back. I'm waiting for my father to wake up in Cincinnati. He books all of our trips. When he wakes up I will reply with all of the information that you need. There are about a million charter captains up there. And their prices vary. We trust this guy though. His name is Jeff. If you guys can get 5-6 people to go you should be fine. @edgarashford2283 You're very welcome. We book our trips around September or October. My only advice to you will be to go during the week. That place is the walleye capital of the world for real. On Fridays thousands of people pour into that town. So accommodations might be a little hard to find. On that occasion you can find accommodations a little further out. Here's how the walleye run works. In March the walleye do a mass migration out of lake Erie into the Maumee River to spawn. The Maumee river is super shallow. So you have to wear waders to catch them. The limit is 6 and you're only allowed to fish from sun up to sundown. After the walleye spawn they head back out into lake Erie. As the walleye are leaving the river, the white bass are coming in to spawn. We book our trips early May when we can. Because as the walleye re-enter lake Erie the stack up on the shallow reefs and binge eat. So I just googled it and there are 90 million Walleye in the western basin as of 2023. In 2022 there were 70 million. So as you see the population is rising. We fish out of Port Clinton Ohio, which is the western basin. If you can't find accommodations in Port Clinton try Maumee. It's right down the road. The walleye remain in that basin and you can get them easily. It's just that in June they move out into deeper water. Another thing, if you book for multiple days sometimes you might not get to go out onto the lake because of very rough conditions. That's normal. Don't be upset. Sometimes the captain will give you a partial refund or else he will take you out closer to shore to catch other species. If that happens just go down to the Maumee River and stack up on the white bass. And REMEMBER, this is Ohio. BRING WARM CLOTHES!! 😊 In the mornings it may be freezing. But as the day wears on it should warm up and you can start peeling off clothes. Also wear clothes that are waterproof because on the trip out and the trip in water splashes into the boat. And the captain will move very often if the bite is slow in an effort to put you guys on fish. The captain will give you two options to fish, either trolling or drift fishing over the side of the boat. We prefer to drift fish because everyone can fish at the same time. If you are trolling and the bite is slow everyone must take turns. You sit and wait until it's your turn and that can be boring sometimes. The limit is 6 fish per person. The captain will let you get his 6 fish too. So you have the potential of hauling in 42 walleye per day. Don't worry, if one catches only two then the other guys can catch his remaining 4 fish. As long as when that boat docks there are only 42 walleye in the cooler you are fine. And there will be a thousand people who just clean fish up there. The captain can direct you to them or usually he will radio ahead and they will be waiting at the dock when you arrive. If all 6 guys pitch in it's cheaper. Or you can clean them yourselves. This is how we usually do it. And if someone on the boat doesn't catch his limit, we still divide all the fish caught up equally among us. If someone catches 41 and everyone else on the boat catches just that one left, we still divide the fish up as if everyone caught their 6 fish limit. The fish cleaners will be swamped but the are FAST. They give you a price, take your fish, take your name and give you a ticket. After that just go get something to eat. It's usually no more than an hour or two. Then return and get your fish. We have never been cheated. And we have been making this trip since the 70's. The fish cleaners only take cash payments. And on our last day everyone chips in 20-25 dollars to tip the captain. Not EVERYDAY, just on the last day. One last thing. They have what they call HEAD BOATS. The head boats go out twice a day and usually have at least 20 people aboard. On the head boats you pay a fixed price and they take you out for 4 hours. You must bring YOUR OWN bait and tackle for the head boats. So avoid them. On the charters all you need to bring are refreshments and sandwiches. The captain supplies everything else.
