    It would be interesting to compare the same painting on cold pressed! Beautiful and inspiring lesson.

    This tutorial has come along so timely for me after I have just totally trashed a detailed vintage car sketch through impatience. Thank You so much for the tips on patience and working on small areas, it is really helping a lot with my second attempt Liron

    Reminds me of when you’ve done a portrait and begin with cast shadows leaving paper white for highlights which, in this case, is the local colour of the white boats.

    Nice job. I appreciate the encouragement towards painting more realistic with watercolor. Presently I am in the midst of a pointalism-ish type watercolor painting. Didn't even know what pointillism was until after I'd already finished one painting . Now I'm deliberately trying to practice it. Thanks for sharing your talent with the rest of us. Blessing.

    Wonderful video and gorgeous painting! Did you spend some time before painting this planning colors or did you just go for it? Also, how many glazes of the same color is too many or does it not matter?

    this was fantastic, and just the inspiration and advice i needed. i have been doing cars in pen and ink with watercolor and i may spend hours or days getting it done wondering how i can speed it up....news flash...i don't have to. treating it the same as my acrylic canvas paintings is ok....thank you!

      Totally agree on that - you give me hope… I love realism…I thought I would have to be a master to accomplish that type of painting. So I need to have 1. Patience 2. Be able to match color 3. Go slow and include details 4.work in small areas 5. Paint light at first and add glazes and darken as needed…do you think you could ever demonstrate a simpler scene .. though I guess I could crop half the photo to start…oh and use hot press paper too… you are a master for sure. I’m in awe of your talent - you have a mix of a true gift combined with consistent effort and constant practice making your work pleasing to the eye everytime.

You are such an incredibly talented artist and such a patient and gifted teacher that I would truly love to see any full length tutorial no matter the length of time. It's beautiful. It still has a graceful easy look despite the methodical approach. As much as I would like to paint more loosely it doesn't come to me. What you've done here is more my way at this point and it turned out lovely. Very good lesson. Thanks.

    Why did you choose to start with cast shadow? Is that much of the colour of the boat, being white, is cast shadow?

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I work a slower approach like here, I just look for a clear shape to start from (:
      Clear as in "I understand it well".
      And that shadow on the boat really stood out for, so I painted it!
      But I could have started with any of the other details too.
      When you're trying to paint more impressionistically, it becomes more important to think about the larger washes, but not so much here 😊🎨

    • @barbarafrohlich1984
      @barbarafrohlich1984 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LironYan I like that you act in the moment & that guides your approach to your specific subject instead of following “rules” that may say the cast shadows or darks etc are the last things you paint. I learned that also I on of your TH-cam videos on figures. It may have been about a two value, light/dark value approach which I found very helpful. It led me to do a figure starting with darks. Then the light values could obviously create the rest. For some reason I didn’t think you’d do the same with the boats. Thanks for your response.
      I’d like to support you by taking a course but not sure which. Can you direct me to where I can find them all? Maybe the Realistic one or about being freer. My background is visual art & love abstraction but been taking wc classes from Toronto person about 6 years. Also did one with Yong Hong Zhong this winter.
      Anyhow, thanks & goodnight!
