- 44-year-old Bassirou Diomaye Faye has been elected as the president of Senegal after running a successful presidential campaign in just 10 days after leaving prison under the opposition party PASTEF. Diomaye was elected on his 44th birthday gaining what many term as a presidential birthday present. Diomaye won on a first round which is not common for most candidates especially in African nations. Diomaye is now the youngest West African democratically elected president.
In his first speech, Diomaye said his key areas of focus will include fighting corruption, reduction in cost of living, and that he will govern with humility and transparency. Diomaye also promised to do away with the French economic strangle in Senegal and West Africa in general key being the CFA franc currency pegged economy.

Well, his guy is now the president, and you know what that means he's on his way up. I hope the relationship between Mr Sonko and his friend Diomaye won't end up as that between Thomas Sankara and his friend who killed him to become the president in a coup sponsored by France.
Senegal now needs to be truly independent and break away from France the colonial master.

Many African countries are rich and dwelling in abject poverty. Leaderships need to change. Some leaders are still slaves of colonialists
There is room for varying shades of that though. Wait and see how far the new president is going to liberate Senegal from French colonial grip. It may be that he has secretly agreed to compromise while they had him in prison. It wouldn't be the first time they tricked us. Look no further than South Africa how Mandela left their economic domination endure in the name of peace and now the EFF still have to liberate our African exploited brothers.
That's because the leaders are hand picked by the colonial masters then disguised them as democratically elected. First Africa needs to get rid of the colonial mentality before they can see themselves as the rich cultural and resource rich who can work with other nations without serving to their demands.
From prison to the palace is God ordained. Fact that Sall tried desperately cling on to power by tossing the constitution out depicted the greed of Africa's rancid oligarchs. IVORY COAST is a pathetic example where Ouattara tore up the constitution and entrenched himself after his tenure. But it goes ro show the hypocrisy of France. Wishing this fresh air Faye God's blessings. Kudos to Senegalese.
