I am a retired NYPD officer. I was assigned to TD-03 which is a transit district police precinct. I patrolled 96th Street to the South Bronx and from East river to Hudson River. I worked 2200 hrs to 0635 hrs. which is the Graveyard shift. I patrolled the subways at this time of. night mostly alone. My main assignment was to talk and listen to the homeless population of upper Manhattan. I done the assignment for three years which I have documented 500 interviews with the homeless population. So many are victimized, and treated horribly.
Wow!! I was a homeless teen. The stories you must have from people. Can you do a documentary? Much aloha and God Bless You 🌈🌺🙏💛 edit: there was two cops that would always be concerned for me and pull up, say get in...and we’d go talk. I’ll never forget them or their names. ❤️🌹

I was hoping to hear an update about the woman in this clip the moment I finished hearing those three wishes. Thanks for posting to let us know. Happy living wherever you are.
Hi Abhijeet, Please no disrespect, and it may just be a saying, but prayers? I am not going to assume that you don't physically help. I don't know you and maybe you do help. I think praying for someone does nothing practical and as I actually do help these people, not in the States, I think actual deeds are what is needed. Like I say no disrespect and I would think it's just a saying. Have a good day.

I was homeless when I was younger. I am now 24 years old and spent 13 years in the foster system and bounced around through 53 homes. I had a family who adopted me when I was 17 and that never worked out and I was sent back to foster care and ended back on the streets and was sleeping everywhere And anywhere I could. Even some of my friends would let me stay at there houses from time to time. When I was able I went to school and barely got my high school diploma and then volunteered to join the service. I have been in the military ever since. I plan on getting out soon but to this day being homeless still haunts me. Growing up in foster care wasn’t easy for a lot of us. All we had was each other when I was on the streets. I never wish for anyone to ever be homeless but with how the system is there will always be homeless people who either age out of the system on the basis on having no one in there lives.

@@sallycandice6088 of course life ends at the boneyard, thats the definition of death. spirit ? maybe but my attitude means nothing, any more than whatever loss or gain you experience during the cosmic split second you are alive. you lose all your gains and you dont get compensated for your losses. yes, life is precious. then why fret about loss when sooner or later you lose it all anyway. Thoreau said the only way to die was penniless (he should know). but it wont matter either way. the dead rich and the dead poor all stink to high heaven. The boneyard is the only place you will find true equality.
"you are welcome, thank you for asking", that's so cute from her. I don't even dare to escape from home cz i was afraid outside there. But she's brave and positive :)
I think she is really brave. I could not imagine myself doing it. And I’ve always thought that your friends can be your family too; I am really happy to see that she found someone who take her under the wing. I also read the comment she left on the video and it is really great to see she end up doing what she wanted to do.
I was also homeless when I went for a Job/apprenticeship from my hometown Hamburg to Berlin. My partner (student) and I found luckily an apartment, but after 1 year the landlord sold the entire house to an investor. Things broke apart. We couldnt make it to pay the high rent anymore, we did not find a new apartment together. I became homeless, my mother did / does not care about me and it's common here, that the parents sign the contract of renting the flat. The landlords often choose from 150+ candidates for one flat and compare the income of the parents. I reached out to my mom for help when I became homeless, but she said get a job and make it on your own. She could not even imagine I had a job!! and that things like this can happen to everyone though! I Even heard similar stories about young couples in their 30s, also debt free, who have a good salary, working several years in the same company with savings etc, couldn't find something. Or families, who still live in a 35m2 room with their babies/children, searching years for something bigger. It was a hard time. I noticed that here are also many students that live only in their car and shower in the gyms. Now I made it on my own, but the time left so many scars in my head. It changed me, changed my vision of society.. And by reading some comments I realize, that the few strangers on the street cared more for me, than my own mother. Please people, don't let the world become a greedy, egoistic, lonely place.
My mom also didn't want me around. When I was 15 she had my dad throw me out. We lived in L.A. and I spent the next 1 1/2 years hitchhiking between S. California and N. California on Highway 99. Spent a week with a preacher and his family living in a VW Bus just outside of Yosemite and ate veggie hot dogs everyday. This happened in 1969. Had to talk my way out of some old guy wanting sex and had to fight my way out of another car where the guy wanted to rape me. I was 16 then. During those years I met some really nice people who would give money or food or anything they could to help. I repaid when I met another guy hitchhiking who had been robbed of everything he owned, including his shoes! I gave him an extra pair of boots I had and some socks and a shirt. It wasn't fun living on the road, having cowboys in Bakersfield throwing beer bottles at me on the entrance to the highway and then circling around and doing it again. I learned the hard way to not accept rides to Bakersfield, either go past or just before but don't get dropped off there! In 1971 my Dad asked me if I would come home. I did and 9 months later I joined the Army on the "enlist for the draft" deal they had going. Even though I missed my last two years of High School I passed the GED test and went in the Army. Spent 3 years, got out, got a job and now I'm happily married and retired. I'm 67 now and still remember some of the people who were kind to me then.
I too was homeless when I was young and at times it is extremely difficult. I now have a 3 story home, 5-6 bedroom, 3 full baths and it just me and one other person. I still struggle a lot, but it makes a difference if you have a place you can feel safe and have a meal. I wish I could afford to help. In this country no one should be homeless or hungry especially children!
There are many countries girls who has dark skin they are wasting thousands of dollars to gets this kind of skin ..which this girl already gain ..mostly in India..😒😒😒...

I am from Europe and I think that a lot of american achievements deserve our appreciation. But when I was in the US and saw all the poverty and homeless people on the streets, I had to ask myself how could this county describe itself as the greatest country of all times?
@Ahmed Musa Although it might be unfortunate there will always be people that don’t want to work and do their fare share. Been that way from the beginning of times. Alcoholism and drug addiction factor into it also. Some people just don’t want to be helped. America is the greatest country of all time. If it’s a realistic dream, you can sacrifice, work hard, and eventually achieve it. God bless America
I've been all over the world and have seen poverty everywhere. Its unfair to blame the country. People make their own decisions. Also, The U.S. has a much larger population than all the European countries. Los Angeles alone has more people than all of Finland. If we continue using Finland as an example, they depend on the U.S. for protection, and so dont spend a lot of money on their military. They have the money to spare to put into social programs.
Mikaela Jansson I haven’t ever wanted to leave the United States. What I mean by the greatest is the fact that the worlds economy lies on our backs. We lead the world in technology, infrastructure, science/medicine, military, sports, humanitarian aid, agriculture and that more people want to immigrate here than anywhere else. Last but not least I can’t forget about our very large egos! Lol

Hi Abhijeet, Please no disrespect, and it may just be a saying, but prayers? I am not going to assume that you don't physically help. I don't know you and maybe you do help.
Scares me as a foster/adoptive parent. Glad you were able to get into the military, that can be a good place to land to get life sorted out.

Hi
Same here in Mumbai India
My mom also didn't want me around. When I was 15 she had my dad throw me out. We lived in L.A. and I spent the next 1 1/2 years hitchhiking between S. California and N. California on Highway 99. Spent a week with a preacher and his family living in a VW Bus just outside of Yosemite and ate veggie hot dogs everyday. This happened in 1969. Had to talk my way
out of some old guy wanting sex and had to fight my way out of another car where the guy wanted to rape me. I was 16 then. During those years I met some really nice people who would give money or food or anything they could to help. I repaid when I met another guy hitchhiking who had been robbed of everything he owned, including his shoes! I gave him an
extra pair of boots I had and some socks and a shirt. It wasn't fun living on the road, having cowboys in Bakersfield throwing beer bottles at me on the entrance to the highway and then
circling around and doing it again. I learned the hard way to not accept rides to Bakersfield, either go past or just before but don't get dropped off there! In 1971 my Dad asked me if
I would come home.

@@jeffreydidier5821 Have you examined other countries to see which one really is the best? Why is the US best?
Mikaela Jansson I haven’t ever wanted to leave the United States. What I mean by the greatest is the fact that the worlds economy lies on our backs. We lead the world in technology, infrastructure, science/medicine, military, sports, humanitarian aid, agriculture and that more people want to immigrate here than anywhere else. Last but not least I can’t forget about our very large egos! Lol
