That's crazy to think that whoever installled those rigid panels thought that the adhesive was a good long-term solution. Job well done on the repair! 👊
There are literally hundreds of thousands of motorhomes and vans driving through Europe that have their solar panels bonded to the roof without mechanical fasteners, without problems. Simply a matter of using the right adhesive (Sikaflex) and follow the instructions wrt prepping.
Adhesive is NOT enough to keep those panels on a vehicle roof. The aerodynamic pressures will eventually pull them off no matter what. Mechanical fasteners!
15 years ago glued with Sikabond first panels like same amount as this, not on metal but gelcoat surface with aluminun L shape blocks and 5 years ago upgraded bigger panels, but no way to remove old glued blocks, so they are there forever! Just use correct glue and that's it! NEVER EVER DRILL HOLES AS THEY WILL LEAK!
