Pretty slick set up! Good idea to have the wires plenty beefy to prevent having an in-line toaster.
Love your puppy. Bear looks like great company.
I currently have 4 12v 100ah lisuateli lifepo4 batteries in parallel, and have ordered a lisuateli 12v 200ah battery. I've seen a lot draw down testing videos like this one. I don't understand why nobody is testing 2 100ah running with 200ah. I would think that results would be much closer when capacities are matched.
What about in a car audio set up?
I don’t see what would change. Go for it.
Great video. Awesome job. Thanks Don
Looks like a nice update. However, I'm confused? How is the updated house system being charged without a DC to DC charger from the alternator? Is this system only relying on solar?
Alternator is charging directly.
@@sotasolar Okay, I like that idea. I haven't actually seen that system before. GREAT JOB 👊
hi .i sometimes parallel my 105ah lifepo4 to my 105AH AGM BATTERY.SEEM TO BE OK .my agm battery on separate circuit powers my 3 amp stereo .lifepo4 runs compressor. fridge 24/7 plus led lights plus usb sockets.do i just use an isolator to connect and fuse between 2 batteries
Very interesting. I have 740 worth of panels on my RV and a 50-amp charge controller. We spend our winters off grid in Arizona and it seems to work fine. Four 100AH lithium batteries and a 3,000-watt inverter. We don't run the air on it but most everything else. The numbers call for a slightly larger charge controller (I have a 60 amp for backup). but so far so good. Thanks for the video! Burlington Bill busking on the road and here on You tube.
This may be my solution. The other day I turned off the battery disconnect for 12 minutes, with the SOC around 65% I turn the disconnect back on and the SOC shows 100%. All week I've been battling a charging system that will not charge my batteries because it sees a SOC at 14.5v, but the batteries are each charged at 12.91v. 3 Battleborn Gamechangers, installed in our Cirrus 920 camper. I'm considering disconnecting the system side of the Smart Shunt and resetting to zero calibration when I am certain there is no current in the system. You video seems to support that a sudden spike in SOC may be to blame for by batteries not accepting current. Thanks in advance.
I'm seeing if I can top balance my 100AH 24V Litime. It's only getting 70AH before the BMS is shutting it down at 25.22v which seems really high. It's only a few months old and I've babied it.
I’d look at getting a warranty replacement.
@@sotasolar Good thing I saved the boxes! XD
Do you have part numbers for the digikey sourced terminal blocks?
Love the rails. I do have a question on panels. You talked about trying the new 250W panel from Rich Solar. Was wondering if you have looked at Renogy new bifacial 250W panel. Which one is better?
Great video - thank you. You’re definitely helping me understand things through the design of my own install for my RV. Do you recall if you have any videos that speak a little more to details of retaining a 12v battery in the overall system of a 24v install? Ie for slides/levelling and others….
Look at our 24v videos. It’s really simple, keep one there. Can be lithium or lead acid / AGM. Don’t stress about keeping it 100% charged all the time. It has a simple job “help with larger loads, then rest and slowly charge until needed again “ the 12v system usually runs around 13.2-13.8v anyway and is plenty to keep the battery charged enough for that role.
I have 3 Lipo4 batteries that I built from 3.2 LIPO4 Cells powering 3 of the 1100CCA IOXUS capacitors for my car stereo. The Cells are all in a 4-S configuration to get my 12V well, actually 12.8V with 64aph's per each battery. They are all wired in parallel to get 192aph's with the 12.8V. I also have an XS Power 127aph AGM also wired in parallel with the 3 Liipo4 batteries and from the AGM going to my vehicles 240amp alternator with 2 runs of 0 gauge ofc cables running for well over a year know and everything has been doing great together. Nothing crazy well 🤔 wait ✋️ ok honest 1 crazy thing is I honestly can't believe how loud my stereo is absolutely off the hook. Be safe, but have fun 👍 Rob C. 👍
We’re both solving different problems, but I’m glad we’re both having success. ;-)
What size mega fuse do i install going from lynx to the 12v rv system?
If 6 awg 80 amp is foot, maybe as much as 100. For 4 awg , 125-150a
Crazy Dangerous! Why people that don’t know the first thing about what they’re doing attempt electrical work is beyond me. If you like your cabin over a pile of ashes then use a load center with breakers, enclosed bus-bars, proper type and sized wiring. 12v vs. 48v system, spend the extra money and go 48v. I would also be checking the individual cells in those lithium batteries!
Yup, 48v upgrade is on the table.
Would you be able to give us a link where we could buy the main breaker you installed between the battery and the lynx distribution box? Thank you in advance.
Please don't wear the ring while working around electrical systems!. Safety first!.
One step ahead of you, it’s rubber.
@sotasolar, please say so during the video and warn others of the dangers of rings ,bracelets, and anything metallic around electrical work. Especially if you are trying to teach those who are DIYers. Always safety instructions if you are teaching others.
Get white bread, and keep dominating the world!
I actually didn’t realize the world domination check list item was there until the edit. Darn kids. We’ll try our best all the same.
One problem I saw you didn’t discuss, was using audio fuses for solar! You need to use the proper fuses.
Yeah I see it a lot, I’ll make sure to highlight that more.
I think all you are seeing is the imbalance between the batteries... were they both balanced at 100% before the test??
should be the same as if you paralleled three 100ah.
The question i would have is should you run your charging to the lead acid first like a ballast from a shore power charger and from your alternator. I tried running my shore power charger thru the renogy dcdc to lithium and weird shit happened with shore charger. Shore charger is fine directly to lithium. Hard to figure out the configuration for charging from alternator or shore with using one charger. I use alternator direct to lead or dcdc to lead without issues but going from alternator to dcdc to lithum with settings for litihium keeps popping circuit breaker. Even when litium are hardly used
Superb ,just the confirmation i needed so thank you
Run a v8 starter circuit and see which heavy duty breaker works lol
Excellent video. I do wish Victron would also make a 48v Orion 12v programmable charger, as opposed to converter. I could see a lot of cases where there is a heavy draw 12v device (say hydraulic leveling) where it might make more sense to retain a 12v battery as opposed to a huge dc-dc converter to handle those intermittent big loads. As far as that goes I think if they came out with a 48v 2x120 Easy Solar (MPPT’s built in) with a 12v charging output built in….
I wonder why everybody think victron is the best. Vitron is only one of the charge controllers.
😎
Very nice install! What rail system did you use? And what did you use to mount the panels to the rail?
Wish I was closer to you guys. I'd love a similar panel install on my 27FBT. I like the rails.
Come on up, lots to do around here make a week or more out of it.
What?? No dog footage in this video?? It’s just not the same
Now that's what's up!! I was losing faith, but now I see you guys are starting to understand. The Epoch battery company has a great selection of batteries at a decent price. Also DC to DC charging should be encouraged, use the Truck to power these systems.
What are the rails used and where can they be purchased? I have lots of roof space, but prefer the rails for future additions. Thanks
Unirac Solar Rails. There are other brands as well such as Iron ridge. If you're in the midwest we can have them drop shipped to you for free (if in our supplier's delivery network).
How were the panels mounted to the rails? I currently have my panels ( 6 -200 Watt) mounted to unistrut but am intrigued by the rail option!
@markratliff7991 unistrut is just another rail option. Unirac rail use a similar strut, nuts, and hold down clamps as unistrut does.
It would be more wise to just buy the M10 version so you don't to drill it out. Thank you for sharing...
Worth looking at these days for sure. Back then it wasn’t a thing.
@@sotasolar Victron's bad then (not yours)...
I appreciate your videos. Can you do an update video what you think about the GUI modes you’ve always used versus the new 3.5 update for the cerbo GX. Send your pros and cons and your thoughts.
The issue is the cheap Chinese ones do not follow any kind of trip curve for the standardised or provide it a lot of them trip before the rated current which is not as safe as you think
My shunt showed 2ah consumed.I shut off charge inverter to reboot and those 2ah went away showing 100%. And was still charging that 2ah Using $100 victron shunt and app.
what is the step down wire used for?
Where’s the best website to download the GUI mods?
Thanks! Can you share what shunt you used?
All is written directly in manual from victron 100/50 Operating temperature is from -30 to +60°C (full rated output up to 40°C) ......+60°C is around 140 Fahrenheit Max solar power FV with 12V system : 700 W ....around 700 / 50 amp = 14 V max..... Max solar power FV with 24V system : : 1400 W ....around 1400 / 50 amps = 58,3 V max....
I like the new version, especially that the alternator dc-dc power now shows.
Great video! Any chance you could put the part number or link to the USB 12V power adapter on here? I have the 7” screen for my Cerbo GX but never knew you shouldn’t try using a 25’ or longer USB extension. Is that part easy to install?
Hey could you put a link for the backing cover you use between mounting board and components. Thanks man, enjoy the videos and the dogs
Really like your videos. Thanks for sharing. On the last 24v you used the sok batteries. This one was epoch batteries. How do you decide which way to go?
If they want heating or not mostly.
If you want to do a single inverter 48 volt system, what keeps you from using the the 48 / 8,000 inverter and not doing two phase?
Biggest issue might be wire sizing, it’s all 6 gauge, so 50a is good limit to stay under. That means 6000va/ watts is saturating the wiring. 8000 would be fine to handle start up loads, you just better know what you’re doing or increase your AC wire sizing. I personally run a 2x 3000va system for 6000 Va single phase. Just simpler for me, we still run 2 ACs, electric water heater, convection oven, etc. Just my $.02
@sotasolar thank you for your time. I'm just trying to learn about this and you do a great job of explaining it thank you
You mentioned 2/0 wire for the dc side of the MP2 inverter. Doesn't the 24v MP2 inverter call for 1/0 wire?
Thanks for sharing. Great video. Thanks Don
Thanks for the video. Just wondering what your thoughts are on the new 3.5 firmware version for the Cerbo GX might be? Perhaps this could be a topic for the next video ?
Might be a good idea. It’s been on my mind. There is a lot to like, clearly they took some ideas from GUI Mods. At the same time, my lizard brain likes some colors. I’d have liked to see some color differences for each type of power like before. However there could be some accessibility issues around that and color blindness.
Another great video, thanks for sharing your thought process! I"m just a DIY'r but have built about a half a dozen systems and there seems to be an interest from my friends to get started with solar and your content helps me direct them! Thanks again
I would definitely like to see how you program the Multiplus and install the GUI mods
GUI mods are not enabled with the new UI. The new UI for touch pretty much covers it all
