The kind of range it takes to play a sociopath in "Menace to Society" and a sensitive sweetheart in "Love Jones" deserves to be recognized. Larenz Tate is EVERYTHING & my ultimate childhood crush
Don't forget he did Inkwell before Love Jones. The character he played in that movie was drastically different from O-Dog in Menace II Society. How many people remember him being in Family Matters though!?!?
I was talking about this with my co-workers they didn't know that movie. I almost lost my mind. Gotta love HBO and those random movies from my childhood.
I remember when it first dropped on video. My parents and I went to blockbuster to get the tape, we watched it on either a Friday or Saturday and had pizza. Great times!
I loved The Inkwell and Why Fools Fall In Love, too. But my favorite film of Larenz thus far is Dead Presidents. Such a great film with a stellar soundtrack. Also, I’m so glad he playing Terry Silver on Power didn’t work out because I love Larenz as Rashad Tate. I’m amped he’s now on Power Book II: Ghost.
Larenz is still so handsome 😍 Dead Presidents was a classic!! The music, the fashion and the emphasis on the history of how Black veterans were treated when they returned back home from Vietnam.
I always get teary eyed at the end of Dead Presidents when he’s on the bus on his way to the penitentiary! That Isaac Hayes playing and seeing him on the bus! I always said he was just trying to do the right thing and needed someone to give him a chance! Great movie man!
"The Inkwell" was the movie that made me include Larenz into my favorite actors list. He had just played O-Dog in Menace as a hardened street kid and to turn turn right around and play Drew Tate, an awkward, recluse, sensitive teenager AND be believable in BOTH roles is nothing short of amazing. His range is incredible. Larenz will always be That Guy....HANDS DOWN!!💯💯💯
the inkwell was the first movie i first seen him , n instantly caught a huge crush on him .. they did him so dirty tho if i was in that movie i’d be alllllll up on himm 😫
I met Larenz 😊 in LA and I was really impressed only because Larenz was like, the homie I grew up with lol. Cool dude. Over the years I followed him an realize his talent as an Actor, Amazing. He was so impress lol that I didn’t want his autograph,The pleasure was mines just to meet him and embrace him being what we call ‘regular, I enjoy the conversation we had. One ☝🏽 Love ❤️
Larenz Tate is for damn sure a living legend!! Give this man his much deserve flowers 💐 Just think of this man’s range… Frankie Lyman! O Dawg! Darius LoveHall!! Whew! This man is so cold wit it! 🙌🏾
I take my hat off to Larenz Tate, an amazingly talented actor who I always admired for his wide range of roles that he played. My favorite movies was Dead Presidents, Menace to Society, the Inkwell and last but not least Love Jones. Love Jones was a classic, and was so memorable for me, because it was the first movie that I brought my first love of my life to see when it first came out. And what made that movie so nostalgic was the time where I was truly in love at the time, with arguably, the most beautiful woman I’ve ever met in my life. And Love Jones, in a special kind of way, summed up that timeframe when that love was strong and it was real, passionate and incredibly beautiful as well as enchanting. That was in 1997 NYC. Big respect and big salute to the legendary Larenz Tate💯‼️👑🏆💪🏾🔥
He was in The Women of Brewster Place, too. He was one of the children. I love these movies/ shows. I also love him in Deuces with Lance Gross and Meagan Good. I loved him in Why Do Fools Fall in Love with Halle, Vivica, and Lela.
🤯never noticed that BUT is the other child Kyla Pratt? The one with the fork... I feel like that was her and Im losing my mind bc I cant find anything on it
I swear every time ppl say they ddnt intend to be in a movie or ddnt want to audition, those are the movies tht bring them to the light. He was awesome as a menace, spectacular in fact. I fell in love with him as O-Dog & been in love with him ever since.
He seem like such a humble and down to earth guy.. He's also very versatile as an actor and I loved him in the Inkwell and Why do fools fall in love and he deserve his flowers while he's still here. Love Jones and Menace To Society are great movies too but I wanted to highlight his other movies.I just really like his overall style and personality.. Where can I find a man like him?? lol
*Dead Presidents* top 5 movie for me. It captured my experience and so many other young black men who wrestled with the rules of this system. He “fought for his country” he tried to make a “honest living.” Ended up breaking the rules with no happy ending.
It’s good to see how people can take great care of themselves..he looks damn near exactly the same 30 yrs ago and still got a smile on his face..great guy
Larenz Tate is such a handsome gentleman. And Love Jones is my all time favorite romance movie! Black love, deep love, connected love, real love going through real situations, that end in fighting to keep something so bomb! I'm all in!
I loved him in the INKWELL as well. Along with Deuces and everything thing else he has done. I just have to say that everything Larenz Tate does is excellent.
Dead Presidents and The Inkwell are my favorites. Tate is my favorite character on Power. I'm not happy they decided not to pursue a spin-off. I hope they don't end his character.
Tate is one of the most underrated actors in the business. One of my favorites. Also it's sad that we don't get these kind of Black American movie classics anymore.
Dead Presidents was a movie I watched as a child because my Papa liked it. When I watched it as an adult I realized how sad it was and how those soldiers got no support when they came home
Thanks Cocoa Butter to giving the "appropriate contributions-shine" to our people that similar channels like GQ and Cosmo do not, when they highlight their mostly "euro-centrist" 'most iconic roles' actor videos.....etc.
South Central was so funny...I will always remember your character Andre Mosely...Hilarious🤣 my son could have played your double...you guys look just alike.
Loved how he watched the clips-especially Menace to Society where they were in the store and he blushed a little or got somewhat uncomfortable with watching it. Love him! The master! ❤

Don't forget he did Inkwell before Love Jones. The character he played in that movie was drastically different from O-Dog in Menace II Society. How many people remember him being in Family Matters though!?!?
Hold the gun sideways like O Dogg 🥰❤️
The Inkwell deserves so much more. An underrated movie!
Abso-freakin-lutely!!! That character definitely had some levels to him. I enjoyed watching him evolve, too. 👏🏽

That movie is so depressing
Hell yea
And the soundtrack was 🔥🔥🔥🔥
It's crazy how he was IN THE MOVIE but he still has that same reaction to that Mama comment that we have!! 🤣😂😂 WHEW!
I think they should have swapped roles and not killed off Terry Silva but perhaps Councilman Tate 🤔
They had so many amazing movies to pull from for this video.
He choked the shit out of Juanita! Beat the shit out of Cowboy! That's one of my favorite movies! ❤
Yes! That’s one of my all time favorite movies in general! He was definitely awesome in this, too!
I'm so glad that he ended up a councilman Tate because he plays that personality and role so well.
The Inkwell is such an underrated classic! Deserved to be mentioned.
Right. Gotta love cable and those random movies of my childhood. Nobody in my life has seen it. I re watched it and it still awesome!
I agree with you 💯
I loved this!! I was smiling the entire time. Larenz Tate is so real and has never changed. He is good at playing the characters. Respect!
Me toooooo!!!!!
He’s another one that just won’t age.
Yes!! Him and that daggone Nas!!!😍😍
Lol Virgos age well.
Love Jones is a masterpiece of a film and it set off all these spoken word open nights across the nation…. Poetry became popular again .
Larenz is still so handsome 😍 Dead Presidents was a classic!! The music, the fashion and the emphasis on the history of how Black veterans were treated when they returned back home from Vietnam.
