Disney kind of just did it, and they had enough clout to make it so that no one could hold them accountable for it, and it became popular enough that people have too much nostalgia to criticise it anymore. It's a really sh*tty scenario where the evil corp won at every point.
I never watched any of the Disney movies considered classics because I was already a grown man at the time and had no interest in them. I knew about The Lion King because James Earl Jones voiced Mufasa but that's as far as it went. I watched the CGI remake and after being totally underwhelmed by it decided to finally watch the original for comparison. I now see why so many people were disappointed with the remake, It can't hold a candle to the original for warmth, humor, and heart, and I can see why so many kids loved it. At least they were smart enough to get James Earl Jones back, that certainly was a plus.
I enjoyed this movie. I enjoyed it even more when my nephew asked me how the lions were able to memorize their lines. But, The Lion King is my favorite movie ever in existence. I own it in two languages. I used to have collector cards.

The 3D models were lifeless, the voice acting was so dull, the singing was uninspired. Overall, the movie was terrible, and not just because I love the original so much. I tried watching it with a critical eye, and without the nostalgia glasses it was even worse. If they had made this movie first, there is no way it would get a remake.

I'm not really a remake kinda person. The original Lion King, Mulan, 101 Dalmatians, Jungle Book, Jumanji, etc. were phenomenal on their own and for what they were for the time. Why remake 'em? I think the only remake I've seen was 2012's Total Recall. And honestly, I cannot remember any of the scenes. However, the original 1990's movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger, I can distinctively remember many scenes. The 2012 remake, what was that with Colin Farrell, I think? Drawing a complete blank. 🤷🏾♀️
I have to take issue with the Honest Trailer here: "Cinderella turned a passive damsel into an active heroine" No, it didn't. Cinderella 2015 didn't make her a more empowered character, it made her "look" like a more empowered character. Because now there are some cool moments of her in the market doing things, and she's more level-headed. But that actually ends up making her MORE passive. If she's allowed to go out to the market and isn't locked up, why is she still staying with abusers? If she's so level-headed, why does she consistently make decisions that hamper herself? And frankly, her not getting emotional when told she can't go to the ball is actually far less empowering then her actually showing frustration, as it implies she's so Stockholm'd that she just obeys and is always nice all the time. 2015 Cinderella isn't a character she's just a book of "pure of heart" tropes with no emotion. The Jungle Book remake also wasn't good, but for different reasons. That one was bad because it didn't know whether it wanted to be darker like the original literary source, or lighter like the animated Disney film, so it was an awkward middle ground. But because modern critics forgot the original book existed and think the animated Disney film was the "original Jungle Book" (It wasn't, it was an incredibly unfaithful adaptation), they said the 2016 film was the "grown up" version (Even though it's more childish than the actual source material and clashes tonally in both directions). People act like the remakes had such a good start, but no, they were always bad. The Lion King's awful remake is no worse than Cinderella's awful remake is no worse than Aladdin's awful remake. They're all terrible, why do people keep falling for these?

Mike you HAVE to make it to “Can You Feel the Love Tonight”. I burst out laughing in the movie theater when I heard Seth Rogen sing. He sounds EXACTLY like Kermit the Frog! I literally had to leave the theater because I couldn’t stop laughing.
This really made more money than it really should have made, I really do not like these live action, "remakes" of movies that they are doing, they are all worst versions of the animated ones, in most or all ends, like how can most of these be longer than the animated versions, but still have stuff cut out from the original, like with this movie, and in Beauty and the Beast, some scenes are shorter or cut from the remakes, making them worst, but the movie is still longer

Dude, this movie just insults the memory of the great film that was the original The Lion King. Like, just no. They took all of the endearing, wonderful things about the animated film and straight up just took it out. PM wins this one by a narrow margin for me! The only reason any of these 'live actions' make as much as they are is BECAUSE the animated version exists. If they had only released the live actions, I seriously doubt that they'd be considered good films at all.

The problem is the concept by itself. You can't make realistic animals share human type expressions. It is very easy to see early on that the end product won't vehicle emotions. It doesn't bother Disney cause they are in an optic of recycling content. It is not that much of a problem if you're doing a remake with different takes on it. But rehashing the same plot with dull face characters is idiotic and just an easy cash grab. Props to the animators for the technical achievement. And shame on Disney. What is funny, a decade before, in the movie Narnia, the Lion is 10 times more expressive that what you can see in this remake. So the directives given by Disney are dumb. They make it super realistic but end up with something worse than what was feasible a decade before.

That's a good question. Probably Justin Theroux. He's the first actor that comes to mind for some reason. I would say Billy Crudup, but he was already Barry Allen's Dad, so I wouldn't want to see him in the same kind of role in the MCU.

If they REALLY want to make money they should remake their previous adaptations 100% faithful to the source material! I really loved the live-action Jungle Book. It was still slightly cartoony (just the right amount), the cast was excellent, And Scar Jo as Kaa was... uuuuh... Moving on~ But everything after that has just been a fucking disappointment.
I watched about maybe five or 10 minutes of the live action and I couldn’t stomach it anymore. It looked horrible and I just gave her the fact I’m just how much is a dialogue they actually changed. The lions didn’t emote emotions very well and the lines weren’t delivered with as much impact so the voiceover work wasn’t all that good either.
The “live action” movie was pointless and yeah, agree with everything said. But also, that animation was amazing. Just in a technical level, incredible. But yeah animated is the only one to actually enjoy the story.
