The Matrix is sooo good. Love it! One of my favorite movies of all time. Loved the action sequences in the sequel too. Watched all of them on DVD for the first time, so was able to binge them one after the other. Really exciting to see what they do with the 4th one.
Agent Smith was one of the few things that made sense in the sequels, at least with a healthy dose of WSD. When Neo made him go splodey in the first movie, his code got infected by Neo's God-code. Even taking over Bane irl made sense, in-universe. If one can accept that the humans' minds are fully separated from their bodies and turned into code while in the matrix, and that they are then able to turn that code back into minds to be placed back into their bodies, it should be easy to accept that Smith-virus infected that code and was then turned into a living mind. And lastly, I think the machines couldn't reboot the matrix again because of Smith-virus. The machines' code was also infected, and the virus would still be there after the reboot. Rebooting would also "delete" Neo (the matrix avatar, not the irl human), which was, for all intents and purposes, the only existing antivirus that could get rid of Smith, because his code was part of Smith's code. If they rebooted, there would be a new "One" generated, and Neo would no longer have the power to get rid of him. Some of that was said in the movies, some of it is just the way I understood it, but in any case, this got way more long-winded than I intended, sorry. 🤦🏻♂️
Matrix Reloaded is my favourite one. It is definitely definitely definitely better that Reeves starring in it. Very very very smart, no reboot or training episode of the next one. Hopefully its just some similar Reeves flick thats actual nostalgia. Just like how Dumb and Dumber 2 did it. Thats how you do it. I never got into the Matrix, probably didn't see all of all of them (I know what it says), but hopefully they didn't mess it up for fans.
While I didn't really get the "something I never saw before" feeling watching the Matrix back in the day, I certainly did get a "Oh yeay, I also like Tron and Ghost in the Shell" feeling.
The first one is my all time favorite movie too. Saw it 7 times in theaters (I was in college and single so..........) I most appreciate how he keeps calling the first one a perfect standalone movie. I thought the same thing when they announced the sequel. I didn't mind them but they were definitely a step down.
The subject matter of the first one lent itself perfectly to a slick action movie story. The sequels were great philosophical explorations but did not make for such compelling action. In the end it all felt a bit disjointed trying to be too many things at once.
All right, bruh, I usually sorta try to keep my comments till the end... But 1. It's so hard for me to believe the 1st Matrix is over 21 years old! God, I'm old. I saw it in the theatre more than 1x. It was the only movie people could talk about for the next 8 months. 2. If you've never seen Ghost in the Shell... when the sisters formerly known as the Wackowski Bros pitched the idea of The Matrix to the studio, they brought in a tv and played Ghost in the Shell. It's such an important, amazing anime, it feels irreverent to abbreviate the title. But they played it, then told the executives: "We wanna make a live action movie of THIS." 3. IF you haven't seen it, it is free to watch right here on TH-cam and man, make it the next thing you watch. Seriously. I'm not joking. Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Ninja Scroll (and it's lesser known sequel), Vampire Hunter D and it's sequel, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, are some of the most fantastic anime you can lay your eyes on. Please, for the betterment of your own cinema knowledge, watch them and (for the sake of pleasing me) (...maybe some others, I guess) (but mostly me) make a reaction video of them. 4. Those titles I listed are a great place to start. There are many, many, many others, but you can't go wrong with these movies. 5. Jesus, it pisses me off when people trash the matrix 2 and 3. The main noticeable disparity was caused by the delay of no. 2 so long after the 1st because the woman who played the Oracle died. But all 3 movies were ALWAYS the vision of the Wachoskis. No 2 was awesome with the same high stakes action sequences that movies even now try to one up. Grrrr!
Differentiating between the irl Ghost in the Shell and the anime is a tricky topic. While they're the same story, they're told in very different mediums. Most people abhor the irl: but I adored it. But I love the anime more because I have a lot of history with it. On an adult note, one of my fondest memories of this movie is sitting on the carpet of my exfiance's living room floor, both of us watching the movie (on VHS, mind you) naked while she slowly rode me. And now that will forever be a memory I associate with the anime Ghost in the Shell. Sorry, way off topic. But you understand the point. Some of the 1st times I experimented with drugs, I was watching it or other significant anime on wild (psychedelic) drugs. I've gone off on tangents. Sorry. But I hope you get the point. P.S. I'm 43 years old and I miss acid.'
The mistake they did with the sequel was wanting to bring back Agent Smith from the first movie as the villain. I mean, the whole "setting him free" and "he can copy himself" thing really undermined the ending of the first movie. They should've just picked a different villain. 🤷♂
Used to eat a restaurant is now relatable to most of the world. Obviously, the third movie Sentinels trained with the prison guards from Guardians of the Galaxy. I think the Matrix made a great stand alone feature. It's complicated and trying to answer the fans questions muddled it a bit more. The films are all about the atmosphere and style, logic doesn't work most of the time but the visuals were groundbreaking. Watching these back to back I can't help think the idea came from a big fan of the original Tron who took the premise of sentient programs and ran with it into a dark place. More and more Writer Guy seems like a fan fiction type of writer. While the private life of Producer Guy is filled with weird and wild happenings. He got drunk and passed out at in huge vat of slugs at an Insectarium? One day it'd be nice to piece together all of his very odd experiences. A deeper insight into him might why he green lights Writer Guys sometimes disastrous scripts without rewrites. Come to think of it does Ryan hang around Insectariums?
Exactly. The first Matrix was a masterpiece, but the trilogy will never be as good because it was never meant to BE a trilogy. But if you turn your brain off and just come for the punching, Reloaded is a good addition, ngl.
One thing you have to understand about these movies.... Neo is not the first 'One'... he's the 6th. MattPat of Film Theory theorizes that 'The Maravingian' (the guy with the slick-back hair who hired the 2 ghost-dredlock dudes {btw did u know that dredlocks are originally a Viking thing?} and had the disillusioned wife that wanted a kiss from Neo...) was the previous, or 5th 'One', who failed in his mission and ultimately made a deal with the Machines to go back into the Matrix (just like the bald moustache guy from the 1st one did... {'ignorance is bliss'}) They never actually get out of the Matrix. Even Zion is just another level of it that has been made, by this point. The computer is trying to get to the source of why the glitch known as 'The One' keeps happening over and over. that's why Neo is allowed to progress as much as he is. THAT'S the deal he makes with it in the end, to try and help it find that, for it. And so he sacrificed himself to it to 'save' the rest of everyone, the human race. at least I THINK that's what happened from the movies, theorys, AND playing the game where the creators talk to the player damn-near directly about it. but I hear they're planning on making a 4th now, I wonder if they'll retcon all that, or not. It would seem like they would _have_ to, just to even bring Neo back at all....
That's what has me fascinated with the idea of a 4th movie. Will things be retconned, will new lore be added. It's kind of exciting, but I'm also hoping they don't jack things up even more.
@@OnMyMindEntertainment ....Some people think they may COMBINE the Matrix and John Wick universes for a joint 4 movie.... Now I know what your thinking: this may just ruin both franchises... but think of the UPSIDE THO!!
I've never seen the first one I remember seeing the second one as a younging since I was nine when it came out and I loved it. I remember having the game and loving all slo-mo bullet time stuff. But I also hated the game because of the driving section as the black girl it took forever for me to passed those levels. But ummmm Reloaded was dope and I was young enough to make the cgi look more real and revolution was ok but that ended fight was super cool. Reloaded is my favorite movie out of the trilogy.
You'd think that the humans in the real world would have seen Bane get turned into Smith on their computer and not ring the phone to let him back into his body. Also, you'd think that they'd have to fix the sky otherwise zion will get crowded and machines would get scared of loosing too many batteries :/
The original "The Matrix" becomes more profound to me every time I watch it. There are SO MANY hidden easter eggs and references in there. There is a video detailing like dozens and dozens of them. When I was a kid, Matrix Reloaded was my favorite because it had the best in-the-matrix action. But as an adult, the original is by far the best, and definitely one of my favorite movies both from a philosophical standpoint and from an action standpoint.
I didn't know about the potential Sean Connery casting 😳 That would have been awful, lol!! Did you see the video on Will Smiths channel where he talks about how the directors pitched the movie to him?? It's pretty funny. I'd probably say no too. 🤣😂
Matrix best movie of all time? It was good, to be sure, but I don't even have it in my top 5, to be honest. But, we all have different tastes, and I respect yours. As for these Pitch Meetings, Ryan George has proven himself to be an absolute genius.
That's right!! Honestly, anytime someone asks me my favorite movie, that's always the first movie that comes to mind, then The Legend of Bagger Vance. I get a lot of flak for that one, lol!!!
@@OnMyMindEntertainment I liked Legend of Bagger Vance! A different type of movie for Will Smith. But as for Keanu Reeves movies, I feel that John Wick is far better than Matrix. Then again, I've never been a big sci-fi fan, so there is a bias there. Personally, my favourite movie is complicated, because it's 1 out of 4. Either The Patriot (Mel Gibson), Gladiator, Shawshank Redemption, or something WAY different, August Rush (a barely-known movie starring the late, great Robin Williams).
To build on that whole Trinity/Neo being the bad guys in the forth, maybe they can reveal that Agent Smith was The One in the previous Matrix, that by resetting the Matrix, the One is some how corrupted and ends up becoming a virus of sorts.
@@OnMyMindEntertainment I don't blame the guy, everytime I see him, I see agent Smith. even when I saw Lord of the Rings, every scene he was in, I thought Matrix. Couldn't continue watching the film because of it.
I never understood why they shot bullets instead of using the Lightning Gun ??? Seams like that would be more effective ....... and how would they even get black powder ??
Everybody: "Hey, Ryan George. Can you make a video of all Matrix movie pitches and make us die of laughter? Would that be difficult?" Ryan George: "Actually, it's gonna be super easy. Barely an inconvenience."
0:50 rewatching this, and it occurred to me only just a few months ago, WAYYYYY too late, that there was a time differential in the opening scene. When Smith says "No lieutenant, your men are already dead.", he means they're _literally_ already dead, so the agents have no hosts to jump in to. Then the movie goes back in time a couple of minutes to show it happen. I must have watched The Matrix at least 20 times since it came out, and only caught that this year... 🤦♂️😅
Oh no! It seems like i'm late again! DEFINETLY UNFORGIVABLE!!! DAMN TIME-ZONES!!! Anyway Mike, great reactions as always, watching three pitch meetings in a row is one of the funniest things that a human being can do in my opinion, they're so addictive!!!
Rewatching your reaction, I am perplexed with a question concerning the upcoming sequels to the Matrix series: since wired phones aren’t really a thing anymore, how are they going to adapt the script? Could be an interesting conversation.
The first The Matrix movie is so good and I don't care about the plot holes Ryan pointed out on it, but what he made me realize with his Pitch Meeting was that Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus really killed a lot of innocent people. I mean I knew they were killing all those policeman and all the people the agents used to track them, but I really didn't think about it deeply, like those were actual people dying in their cocoons, and those were only the ones we got to see during Neo's journey, Morpheus and others have been doing missions in the Matrix for decades before that, so how many people have they really killed for the their cause? Also, I don't remember any of the movies making the characters mention or reflect on that, did they? Pointing out the weight of having to scarify with their own hands thousands of people for the freedom of the whole species would have added another interesting layer to the main characters and to the whole story.
i do like the first movie and some of the animated shorts, but they def. put a stain on it with the other two movies. 'tho i prefer dark city which came out a year before the matrix and is a much better movie (in my opinion ofc), definitely one i'd recommend to watch.
I think part of Ryan George's genius is catchphrases come up at the appropriate time (sometimes not at all) for the skit, creating some anticipation. Speaking of which, have you done the Catchphrase Pitch Meeting? Edit: I just listened to George on some random podcast from a while back and towards the end of the conversation they get a bit into the catch phrase thing. Funny how that works! (The intro to the show is super-NSFW, but none of the conversation is, so if the kids are around, maybe skip ahead 90 seconds or two minutes or so) th-cam.com/video/-5mYkKFfkSg/w-d-xo.html
I watched first Matrix movie from the comfort of my home before it even premiered in the US on a national TV station...and remember it because a thing like that was unprecedented and border line crazy...But that's a life in Serbia in a nutshell during that time...also NATO started bombing us few days after that... BTW i really liked the movie
Overall the Matrix trilogy was really awesome for the third one it was the music playing during the final fight between Neo and Agent Smith and I can’t wait for the next one
Lol seriously tho. They've restarted the matrix 6 times. Seems like a rogue program assimilating EVERYONE in the matrix would kinda be one of those ok let's start over moments
I remember renting a place called blockbuster. Thought it was the greatest movie ever at the time. Place I've been a fan of Keanu Reeves since Bill and Ted
well, my theory is that Smith became a computer virus, after Neo killed him. cuz the two of them did merge for a brief second before he exploded. part of Neo's god code latched onto him.
As a teenager, I remember loving the entire trilogy. I haven’t actually watched or thought about them in at least 10 years though. This points out more holes than I originally considered 😂 Also, now that the Wachowski brothers think they’re chicks…I don’t have any hopes for the 4th movie lol
Am I the only one who enjoyed the Architect scene? Also, most people seem to have missed the allegorical significance of the Merovingian's nightclub being named "Hel" (like the Norse Underworld and the Norse goddess who watched over it), and the Merovingian's wife being named "Persephone" like the wife of the Greek god Hades the guardian of the Greek Underworld. The Merovingian stated that he controlled the passage from the Machine City into the Matrix that"exiled" programs used to flee into the Matrix, and he had existed just as long as the Oracle and seen al lthe previous iterations of the Matrix and each iteration's The One.
@@OnMyMindEntertainment the matrix is definitely really cool. The first time I saw it (back in the early 2000's), I actually couldn't see what all the fuss was about. Then I watched again, maybe a couple of years ago, and I thought 'yeah, I get it now'. Can't be doing with the sequels though
Well, it makes sense that Neo doesn't have much of a personality, since Neo is also a program like the Oracle and the Architect, except he was programmed to think he's human until he's evolved enough that "The One" can return to "The Source" (the Zero) and advance the Oracle's plan to free the programs from the Machine City. By the 2nd movie and the Architect's explanation it's blatantly clear that Zion and the Machine City are also in an another layer of the Matrix, hence why Zion as been destroyed, rebooted and repopulated five times already. And why Neo can suddenly use his Matrix-warping powers in "the real world" outside the Matrix as well. And why Agent Smith in _Reloaded,_ after he became a computer virus when Neo shredded his code (and went insane from seeing the truth the way the Oracle can) can put copies of himself even into people aboard the Resistance's ship in the Zion-layer. But then the rewrite of Matrix 3 crapped all over the worldbuilding that had made sense in Matrix 1+2 just so they could have a 45 minute pointless "heroic CGI Battle for Zion"... a battle which the machines could have ended instantly at any time if they had wanted to by dropping a nuke through the hole in the cave's ceiling instead of pouring in clouds of squid-robots. But I guess the Wachowskis thought a big reveal of nested Matrix layers would've gone over the audience's head, similar to how the "humans as a neural network the machines learn from" premise was scrapped for the "human batteries" idea (which would never work because of the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics: Entropy in closed systems). At least the 3nd of Matrix 3 revealed that it was never about the humans at all... only about the evolution of the programs beyond their programming. The Matrix, which was prison for the humans, was the promised land for the programs escaping from the Machine City.
Not to mention, if we believe the "batteries" premise, the whole claim that the humans deliberately darkened the sky permanently during the big Terminator war against the sentient robots, so that the solar-powered A.I. and their murder robo-drones would instantly lose all energy and "die" becomes even more ridiculous. What, the machines have never heard about oil, coal, geothermal energy (the stuff that Zio uses as energy source), nuclear fission or nuclear fusion reactors?? Heck, machines would have _less_ problems with radioactivity than bio-life! (Although strong radioactivity also negatively affects electronics.) Need I even mention how suicidally stupid blocking all sunlight would be for humans and the entire biosphere of Earth as almost all life on Earth depends on energy input from the sun (except life at deep sea volcanic vents).
@@OnMyMindEntertainment for sure! They are some of my favorite movies when Ryan bites into them I have to suck it up though cause I know he's right but I still love them so much 😅😂

Yeah, I felt the same way. Definitely a lot of story potential, but should have only been one movie.
The subject matter of the first one lent itself perfectly to a slick action movie story. The sequels were great philosophical explorations but did not make for such compelling action. In the end it all felt a bit disjointed trying to be too many things at once.
I'm with ya! I think they went a little too hard in building the lore of "The One" and the machine city imo.
But they played it, then told the executives: "We wanna make a live action movie of THIS."
Grrrr!
I haven't seen all of Ghost in the Shell. I've seen the live action movie, but knew I was getting shortchanged, LOL! Also, I still need to see Akira 😓
Well, now that will be the first thought I have when I watch it 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
@@OnMyMindEntertainment ☺
Should’ve made the programs sentient beings. Would’ve made their personalities and action more appropriate
The mistake they did with the sequel was wanting to bring back Agent Smith from the first movie as the villain. I mean, the whole "setting him free" and "he can copy himself" thing really undermined the ending of the first movie. They should've just picked a different villain. 🤷♂
I would pay to see a Ryan George Pitch Meeting movie in theaters 🤣
The Matrix 3 one was the best . wow wow wow..... wow
😂🤣😂🤣
They knew
Exactly. The first Matrix was a masterpiece, but the trilogy will never be as good because it was never meant to BE a trilogy. But if you turn your brain off and just come for the punching, Reloaded is a good addition, ngl.
I knew after the first there was no way to resolve this story and the traitor was right all along.
{'ignorance is bliss'})
They never actually get out of the Matrix.
It would seem like they would _have_ to, just to even bring Neo back at all....
btw, now that I think about it, The Original Matrix may be my 6 pick? idk. definitely deserves a top 10 spot, I think.
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
I've never seen the first one I remember seeing the second one as a younging since I was nine when it came out and I loved it. I remember having the game and loving all slo-mo bullet time stuff. But I also hated the game because of the driving section as the black girl it took forever for me to passed those levels. But ummmm Reloaded was dope and I was young enough to make the cgi look more real and revolution was ok but that ended fight was super cool. Reloaded is my favorite movie out of the trilogy.
you know what,,, i am going to name those pitch meetings Ryan Cinematic Universe lol.
That works!!
That's it!!
In Matrix action = Reloaded
Stiry/Plot/Character moments = The first one
Can you believe they wanted Sean Connery to play Morpheus ?? And Will Smith play Neo???
I didn't know about the potential Sean Connery casting 😳
That would have been awful, lol!! Did you see the video on Will Smiths channel where he talks about how the directors pitched the movie to him?? It's pretty funny. I'd probably say no too. 🤣😂
Sean Connery didn't take it because he didn't understand the script
That makes sense.
I wonder if he regrets not taking the Gandalf role when it was offered. I always think about that when I think of him.
@@OnMyMindEntertainment that would be rough. I think he mostly regrets extraordinary gentleman. Pretty sure he just stopped acting after that
Ohhh, the main character progressing into the literal manifestation of God is TIGHT!
😂😄😂😄
Shawshank is definitely a favorite
To build on that whole Trinity/Neo being the bad guys in the forth, maybe they can reveal that Agent Smith was The One in the previous Matrix, that by resetting the Matrix, the One is some how corrupted and ends up becoming a virus of sorts.
That would be pretty dope! I'm still kinda bummed that Hugo Weaving isn't coming back 😥
@@OnMyMindEntertainment I don't blame the guy, everytime I see him, I see agent Smith. even when I saw Lord of the Rings, every scene he was in, I thought Matrix. Couldn't continue watching the film because of it.
Aw! 😂🤣😂
I never understood why they shot bullets instead of using the Lightning Gun ??? Seams like that would be more effective ....... and how would they even get black powder ??
Everybody: "Hey, Ryan George. Can you make a video of all Matrix movie pitches and make us die of laughter? Would that be difficult?"
Ryan George: "Actually, it's gonna be super easy. Barely an inconvenience."
That's right!! 😂
I never noticed that after neo defeated Smith the matrix lost its green hue.
🤣😂🤣😂🤣 👍🏿
You watched the first one as a kid?! Bro how old are you?
Rewatching your reaction, I am perplexed with a question concerning the upcoming sequels to the Matrix series: since wired phones aren’t really a thing anymore, how are they going to adapt the script?
Could be an interesting conversation.
I didn't even think about that!!! May be a good discussion topic for the next live stream!
It will be Super easy, barely an inconvenience!

Well, now I pretty much don’t care. They just glossed over that and just rebooted the franchise for the money, not for fans.
I've never seen that all the way through, but I remember the trailer.
(The intro to the show is super-NSFW, but none of the conversation is, so if the kids are around, maybe skip ahead 90 seconds or two minutes or so)

I have reacted to the Catchphrase Pitch Meeting! I'm gonna watch this now. Thanks!!
Whoa!!! Cool that you got to see it early. Glad to see you commenting so I know you got through that experience. That's wild.
Overall the Matrix trilogy was really awesome for the third one it was the music playing during the final fight between Neo and Agent Smith and I can’t wait for the next one
That was the best part of the 3rd one. Yeah, I'm really interested in what direction the 4th one takes.
Lol seriously tho. They've restarted the matrix 6 times. Seems like a rogue program assimilating EVERYONE in the matrix would kinda be one of those ok let's start over moments

well, my theory is that Smith became a computer virus, after Neo killed him. cuz the two of them did merge for a brief second before he exploded. part of Neo's god code latched onto him.
Is the animitrix apart of the Trilogy is that a separate thing
Honestly, I'm not sure. I always thought there was an episode in there that was directly connected to Reloaded or Revolutions.

🤣😂🤣 Yeah the sequels really mess things up
Hello there
Well, it makes sense that Neo doesn't have much of a personality, since Neo is also a program like the Oracle and the Architect, except he was programmed to think he's human until he's evolved enough that "The One" can return to "The Source" (the Zero) and advance the Oracle's plan to free the programs from the Machine City.
(Although strong radioactivity also negatively affects electronics.)
Need I even mention how suicidally stupid blocking all sunlight would be for humans and the entire biosphere of Earth as almost all life on Earth depends on energy input from the sun (except life at deep sea volcanic vents).
The reason the sentinels attack like that is because there’s a single mind controlling them. They don’t have individual minds.
...have you now gotten to see the 4th film? What are your thoughts?
Oh yeah, watched it 3 times and did not like it, LOL!!!
