      Brother it made me cry and still makes me cry. I hate the whole “oh they sacrificed themselves let’s bring them back!” Trope because it lowers the sadness and also to me personally sours characters legacy. however it still hurt. Because we don’t know if they lost their memories. We don’t know if they are in 3, if Rex is still alive with them so they are alone or not. But what makes me still cry is that Pyra and Mythra went through so much and finally wanted to be alive to see Elysium with Rex and the gang but the Pyra/Mythra themselves made the choice to sacrifice themselves for the others. So the whole goal was for nigh (till they came back). That and I love love love story elements but I think I’m Gods honest truth I love character elements and development more. So watching this and Chuggaaconroys full let’s play, made me love Pyra/Mythra because of that. And when they sacrificed themselves it broke me.
      I hope this all made sense. I’m on my sleep medication right now

      As am I! It makes me smile seeing how many more people have picked up the series as a early Xenoblade fan back when most people hadn't even heard of it! I'm so happy how far the series has come! People in America were beging to port this over, and we barely got it as a Gamestop exclusive limited to a small amount of copies in comparison to the normal, and now the series is big enough to be to be the series to start with in a Nintendo direct and many people are talking about it.

    One thing that I think is easily forgotten is how tragic of a character Malos is. Because there's a line early that when Drivers resonate with Blades, a part of themselves is imprinted on the Blade.
    So who resonated with Malos? Amalthus, and his hate of the world was imprinted onto Malos. Malos is only really carrying out Amalthus' will

    • @Puttipong2K
      @Puttipong2K 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      everyone in this game had a sad memories but the difference are what are their reaction after that events.
      Amulthus is like us sometime, if we lost faith in good deeds we will can turn to selfish and heartless like him.
      i also pity for him and every antagonist in this games.
      there all show their mistake of we human. but given us a lesson to learn how to deal with it.
      Don't make whoever going to be like Klaus/Amulthus.

    • @24hr-Gaming
      @24hr-Gaming 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      A lot of it was Amalthus, but not all of it. They were beings created with world ending power, so it would be a logical conclusion that the Architect wanted them to use that power. Their outlook changed depending on their driver.
      Mythra came to the conclusion that her power was there to protect because of Addam's influence, though she had huge doubts after Torna which is why she wanted to have the Architect kill her if she really was something meant to destroy the world.
      Malos took Amalthus's point of view where if that power existed, it must have been for the sake of destruction. He wanted to also destroy the Architect for creating him with such a miserable purpose.
      So yeah basically Klaus really messed up with the Aegis by not giving them any kind of clear directive but giving them massive power.

  • @MrAuthor3DS
    @MrAuthor3DS 2 ปีที่แล้ว +327

    - It's kinda sad to read each party member's observations of the swing set...
    - To be clear, what Rex saw in those grayscale battles are made from his personal fears and woes. So it was him who feared that Nia felt gravely jealous of Pyra, that Morag and Brighid hated him for giving false hope, that Tora and Poppi felt insignificant for not being a real Driver and Blade, that Zeke and Pandoria begrudged him for being chosen by the Aegis, that Gramps was having an existential crisis...But it ultimately proves that Rex can't consider himself happy if he had to see his friends suffering.
    - This chapter reveals a lot about XC1. It's also heavily hinted that Ontos, the missing Aegis, may be Alvis - reinforced with his necklace pendant being changed to a red Conduit shape in Definitive.
    - Don't you remember? Galea is the one who spawned Meyneth. As for her half in Alrest...uh, it could possibly be that one Guldo that dropped an ID card.
    - There was a scrapped function where Pyra's/Mythra's silent line (with subtitles) would be different depending on some kind of progress - one line suggesting memory regression, another line suggesting they remembered.
    ...See you in Aionios!

    What I love about this game is that it exceeds in both the macro and the micro storytelling. Macro storytelling is the bigger picture. The connection to Xenoblade 1, the Torna expansion adding more context to the lore of the world and why it is in its current state. It blew my mind. Micro storytelling are the little moments between characters. Every interaction between characters are so well thought out, about their personalities, their own individual beliefs and past experiences, and how they interact with the other characters. The mixing of these two is what makes that ending so powerful. You care about the characters because of the micro story, their own individual struggles and overcoming them. You care about them. The tragedy of the moment comes from the macro story, the bigger picture. Pneuma needs to do this to preserve the world they fought so hard for. It's what makes it so heartbreaking. Pyra and Mythra finally found their reason to live, but they had to choose to sacrifice themselves for the sake of everyone else. It's a tragedy, and it is done so well. I have never not cried at the ending.

Ignoring the other two, XC2 has managed to take almost 500 hours of my time through gameplay alone, and the amount of time it has spent occupying my mind and thoughts and discussions with friends and online people… I can’t begin to calculate how much of it has influenced my daily activities. Despite other beliefs, I do believe there is a logical explanation why the aegieses girls come back as separated entities.
    - Malos disapeared (turning into particles) during the ending with a cracked core. Normally, that would spell an end to a blade. But aegieses broke all the rules that blades abide to. Notes that Malos has survived worse than this during the ending of torna. he was disintergrated while losing half of his core.
    - While it's true that Pneuma was vastly more powerful than Mythra, it was Aion that took most of the hit. And that Artifice lorewise is much better than the Sirens, or any other Artifices so to speak.
    - Processors can transfer and take data from one another. Malos stealing Pyra's data to fix himself is a prime example of this.
    So, this is my theory of what happened in chapter 10:
    - After making peace with himself, Malos decide to die, transfering his core data to pneuma's. Thanks to these data that worth an entire processor, Pneuma was able to generate another aegies core for both of her personas, and thus, both Pyra and Mythra come back.
    Proofs:
    - As Pneuma entering Aion, the screen showed two aegis cores in the cockpits, hinting at Malos's data was with her.
    - Pneuma heard Malos's talking as the Artifices self-destruct. Maybe it was Malos talking to her thanks to him being inside her core now rather than his "ghosts".
    So, by saving Malos from his own darkness, Rex receive from his enemy the warmest farewell gift of all: having Coffee and Milk.
    PS: it's genius of Monolith for making some of the fanbase wish the exact same thing as the girls at the start of their journey: that they should not have lived :v

    I never thought about until now, but when Klaus was checking the hearts of Rex and his friends we see through each exchange with his friends that they are acting in accordance with his worst fears. He is afraid of leading people to their deaths (Morag), or not meeting the expectations of those that look up to him (Tora), etc. But when it is pyra's and mythra's turn there is no fear, that is the evidence of the strength of the bond they have and what Klaus found to be so profound. It was because of this that Klaus chose to entrust to Rex the true Elysium.

    I completely relate to Xenoblade 2 being an incredibly personal and emotional journey. 2017 was a really rough time for me and this game came out just a few weeks after my grandma passed away. There was literally no better game to help me through that time. This is a story that touches upon anxiety, depression, nihilism, (lack of) faith in humanity, and generally trying to find your way in an chaotic and cruel world. It tells you that, yes there is a lot of hardship and tragedy, but you can make it through if you keep looking forward, keep doing your best, and spend your time with the people that you love.
    It's amazing, simply a masterpiece. Xenoblade 1 was already amazing and means so much to me too, in fact I'd even say I prefer it slightly more, but there's nothing that makes me bawl quite like 2's ending. I hope to create something one day that can inspire and empower people just as much as this game did for me. And Sarah, I hope that you've been doing better recently! Your videos and streams are always incredibly sweet and wholesome, you're truly a very special presence. You lighten up our days, so it should only be fair that your days are well too. Thank you so much.

    You were definitely not the only one breaking down in tears at the end of this game. The truth about Elysium, the Architect's reveal, Pyra's only lie, Poppi's promise, and that postcredits scene... there was no way my eyes remained dry during the endgame when I finished it myself, and even watching you cover the same ending gave me the same emotional response! Such an excellent game!

      I don’t usually shed tears in a video game unless it is The Walking Dead Season 1 or the Bioshock series, but I lost it after this ending.
      Instead of fearing death, Mythra/Pyra feared living but in the end, the father gave them the gift of life and thus they no longer feared living, but embraced what they now will have.
      This ending ties in extremely well with the dinner scene (which was just as emotional) in chapter 10. Unreal story telling..

    I’m so glad you enjoyed the series especially 2. This series similarly means so much to me. It really helped pull me out of a dark depression. I think I needed the distraction more than ever because the back half of 2020 through the first half of 2021 was genuinely probably the worst 12 months of my life. It really helped lead me on a journey of self-discovery of what went wrong and what I needed to change. I’m unfortunately still living the aftermath of that and COVID. Part of the consequences of that is lacking I friends but that’s what the Xenoblade community helped me out with. No matter how bad things are I can at least sleep with the hope and the knowledge, it’ll get better.

      Same here. There have been 5 pieces of media that have made me cry and this is one of them. I always hate seeing comments like this game is just a waifu simulator because these characters have genuine depth to them. The very real and deep themes explored and how they go about them profoundly resonated with me and made me cry at several moments. It's fair to say they overuse certain tropes, but this game is far from cliché

  • @krimhorn

    Thank you so much for these. I haven't had many "whoa" moments from media over the past decade or so but the moment of realization that Takahashi had actually been re-retelling the Xeno-gear saga AGAIN only had found a way to divorce it from the expectations that burdened Xenosaga so much was legitimately stunning. Add on the masterful storytelling, Mitsuda's affecting music and that history the ending hits hard.
    Looking forward to your playthrough of XC3.

    Xenoblade 2 is my favorite game of all time, and I want to thank you for playing it/giving it a chance, it is an amazing game that loves to play with your heart strings as if it was the instrument by a top grade musician preforming a concert. I first played it when I was in a dark place in my life as well, and there something just hopeful and optimistic in the cast and particularly Rex, even though naïve that just got through to me and I felt as if Pyra/Mythra's final words towards Rex where my own thoughts towards the game as well, in how it helped me through it, and changed my view on certain things. Thank you so much for playing it and loving it and I am excited to be able to see Torna and Xenoblade 3.

    Everytime I replay this game, the subtle nuisances of the characters and their moments get brighter and brighter, Malos especially, the game shows us so so so many beings battling with raw, unhealed depression. But Rex is the one person who should be depressed, and keeps moving forward. That's why he inspires each of his friends, and in time, each of the members of torna.
    Malos wanted to die and destroy everything because he became close to a man who lost everything because of him, it's heartbreaking. What refreshing character depth.
    This game is awesome

      The fact that there are themes of generational trauma and abuse, amalthus grew up depressed and hating the world despite becoming such a religious man, and since blades tend to carry characteristics of(and in the case of the aegis', learn from) their drivers, it can be A very strong allegory for parents passing on their behaviors and trauma to their children. Aswell as the whole blade and driver thing can be a allegory for relationships of all kinds in general

    • @Leathal
      @Leathal 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And it handled the “generational” aspect very realistically by still leaving Malos with agency and responsibility, despite Amalthus’ influence. A lazier script would have dumped all responsibility in Amalthus’ lap and have Malos pull a last minute save the world Deus Ex Machina

    I really enjoyed your playthrough. I will say I prefer Xenoblade 2 over 1. The characters are better in 2. They all have their own story arcs, drama, and personal ambitions for being on the journey. Rex never comes across as their leader or reason for being there. All the party characters in 2 get the same kind of character arc that Melia gets in XB1.The villains are better in 2 as well. That area in the 47:00 was possible for Rex to reach. There is an Out of Boundaries (Elysium) video that shows you areas you can access with some glitches, one of the areas is that part with the broken bridge. Where Rex and everyone stand, you can walk to the right or left, and the alley is a curve so as you advance as you get closer to the other side. Stills a gap, but very short so Rex could get to the other side and reach Pneuma.

    To help tie up some loose ends for those who don’t know:
    - Ontos, the first child Klaus mentioned, is Alvis from XC1. The ruby necklace with the same shape as Logos’/Pnuema’s core crystals he wears in XC:DE all but confirms this.
    -Galea is the scientist who was with Klaus when he activated the Conduit. She, like Klaus appears in both games. In XC1, she is Meyneth. In XC2, it is implied she turned into the boss monster in Morytha during Chapter 7 (Rex picked up her name tag). Whether it’s her or not, the nametag existing more or less confirms her presence in XC2.
    These games truly are connected in many ways. Melia and Nia already being confirmed makes me all the more excited for XC3. Would definitely recommend playing Torna in the meantime for further context.

  • @TurboPikachu
    @TurboPikachu 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The point you made about how games can hold a special place in people’s lives and really leave a positive impact is very true for me.
    From 2015 onwards I was burning out on life, to the point that nothing was bringing me joy anymore. By late 2021 I had even lost my love for video games, and had spent the first half of 2022 completely joyless. I made numerous attempts at getting back into games, like a few weeks of practicing competitive smash ultimate again, completing Kirby Triple Deluxe/Planet Robobot/Star Allies, and completing Monkey Ball Banana Mania, but I still lacked the desire to experience any more games beyond the aforementioned ones.
    I had owned Xenoblade Definitive since launch back in 2020, but at that time I’d already put the game away after just 3 hours invested before even finishing chapter 1 (which in hindsight made sense as the last non-Pokémon RPG I finished to date was Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days nearly 13 years prior). For the heck of it, I picked XCDE back up to pass the time on an airline; and on my return flight I experienced *that* cutscene, the first of many iconic moments in the game. From the point that Shulk departed from Colony 9, for the first time since Kid Icarus Uprising in 2011, I found myself *genuinely* looking forward to playing a video game again. I could write an essay on XC1, but to summarize, it’s the most I’ve ever enjoyed an RPG, and probably one of the top 5 most enjoyable experiences I’ve ever had in gaming. Upon finishing XC1 and Future Connected, I rushed to get a copy of XC2 (which for me as a physical games purist was an ordeal; I managed to get a new sealed copy for MSRP, after weeks of waiting since in August 2022 XC2 was already 2 years out of print).
    While XC2 had growing pains XC1 didn’t have, had much weaker voice acting, and (imo) didn’t quite reach the perfection of XC1’s plot and writing, it made up for it by the gameplay progression being an even more satisfying return on investment than even XC1’s was. And XC2’s worldbuilding, environments, and especially the music were all **chef’s kiss**
    After getting past the voice acting, while Rex’s characterization is a bit bland, the rest of the group reaches similar heights to that of XC1’s ensemble. And if it wasn't for the final few cutscenes of the game alone, the addition of the music finally got the water works out of me -- the first time a video game made me cry in my over-25 years of playing video games. I feel no shame in admitting that Xenoblade 2 was the first video game to bring my grown-man self to tears.
    I’ve just finished XC2 a couple hours ago, and it’s left me eager to hop right into Torna (and then XC3). But with my renewed interest in gaming, I figure I’ll capitalize on that and chew through my queue of shorter games like Freedom Planet 2, Spark 2, Spark 3, Sonic Frontiers, and the last 1/3rd of Cyberpunk 2077 (as I have 2077 on Stadia which shuts down in January)
    I can’t put into words how debilitating it felt to lose interest in all my hobbies one by one, especially gaming as my last remaining one, the one that brought me the most joy and established the most friendships in my youth. So it’s equally hard for me to articulate just how wonderful it feels to enjoy a game again and regain an interest in video games in general, especially in otherwise less-than-stellar times. Like... The way you got at 1:06:58 was very similar to how I felt inside after XC1 and XC2 were the first two video games I truly loved after *FIVE YEARS* of feeling no joy from video games and roughly a year of essentially feeling burned out on *life as a whole...*

    11:37 "what Rex is going through is anxiety"
    Awh Sarah!!! 🥺🥺 Her explanation made that scene quite relatable! I never thought about it in terms of anxiety and, perhaps, stories I hear about mental health. I always find new things from a different interpretation through her commentary, it's brilliant! 🥰🥰

      Yeah. That scene is basically Rex projecting his anxiety on his friends. This is what he thinks they think about him after seeing what Elysium really was.

    I am not an outwardly emotional person, but that ending destroys me every time I see it. The first time through I had to actively close out to the home screen a couple of times because I was so overwhelmed. Hearing Shulk's voice and the visual of the Titans coming home to finally rest absolutely killed me. Easily the greatest ending sequence of the three games. So excited for the XBC3 dlc! And watching the rest of this playthrough too

    Everything you said at the end of this video feels so real to me. I played xenoblade 2 before 1 and when i played 2, i was at one of the hardest points in my life, this game helped me and all my friends at the time, we all were going through so much at the time, and this game helped us move onto the next and better parts of our lives. This game changed all our lives and i can never forget that, xenoblade 2 is an actual masterpiece and i was truly surprised how important this game ended up being to me, i was crying all throughout this video remembering those parts of my life, i cherish this game and so do so many others, thanks for being so open and out there sarah

    I finished this game +dlc one week ago and I'am still recovering from that. This game killed me and your reaction is exactly what a game developer should aim for, there are lots of great video games out there but only a few of them can make you feel alive and leave a mark like this. XC2 is the reason why I love video games.

    I don't usually comment often, but I feel compelled to thank you for this series. Xenoblade 2 get a monolithic (no pun intended) amount of hate. But your genuine first reactions, as well as me revisiting the story after beating it a few years ago, has solidified my belief that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a masterpiece. It's a story of forgiveness, love, learning how to forgive yourself, self-acceptance, courage, hope, and the belief in a better tomorrow. Its legacy will long outlast those who criticize it for petty things.
    It was great to see your reaction to how the story unfolded. I've been watching them at work to pass the time and they've been a delight. Thank you for taking you with us on this magical journey of Xenoblade 2!

    i remember discovering your channel about a year ago, when i looked up Etika playing xenoblade 1. i’d been feeling down, and wondered if i could find him reacting to and playing my favorite game. after finding nothing, i noticed a video of someone else playing through xenoblade; that was you. it made me really happy to see someone enjoy the game that means so much to me, and here you are, giving that to us again.
    i dunno if you know who Etika was, but he was a fantastic content creator that sadly took his own life. he meant so much to so many people. and so do you. content creation is such a wonderful job to have, and i hope you’re really happy, reading about all the people you’ve helped by simply sharing what makes *you* happy.
    you do so much for people, whether that’s on the internet, or in your personal life. so, thanks! and cheers to xeno 3 LETS GOOOOOOOO!!!

      I was just glad that Des got to see Skye Bennett read a line about himbin Pyra's voice during her playthrough of the game. She didn't know who he was but someone donated to her stream asking her to read a line and he got to see and react to it. I miss that he didn't have the chance to see them get into Smash Ultimate bringing two of his favorite worlds together. I still feel that his advocacy for Ridley helped the character get in as well.

    Great to relive the game with you! A few speculative things/things that may have been lost to the power of editing:
    1. If you change the player character to the different party members there will be spots in Elysium where they all have something to say about the state of the place, it’s a cool detail.
    2. Klaus has the same voice actor as Zanza and Shulk(Adam Howden), an indication that they’re all connected
    3. Galea is Mayneth, the God of the Mechonis from Xenoblade 1 in case this was missed
    4. In the final cutscene of the game(so right after the credits stop rolling) Turters can be seen on Zeke’s shoulder. The little guy doesn’t appear often so I’m glad the devs didn’t forget about him!
    5. Remember the choice to call Pneuma either Pyra or Mythra? Well it does actually matter as it will decide who the camera pans to at the end when they are revived with seperate bodies. Both will be silent which leads me to believe they say something like “My name is Pyra/Mythra.” Their wish was to live like a normal blade and they hated the burden they were given so the final gift from Klaus was that they got to live like any other blade: they “died” and forgot their past lives
    6. If the Xenoblade 3 trailer didn’t give it away, yeah it’s now certain that Shulk’s new universe and Rex’s Elysium are the same thing going forward.
    7. You have until September, for Zanza sake play the Torna DLC!!!

    • @trinity31409
      @trinity31409 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      She played Torna in 2021 right after XC2. She said in one of the earlier chapters that Twitch has the VOD from her streams of both games. She is only just now editing the recordings from 2021 to make these summaries to post to TH-cam. Getting hyped up for 3 in September.

    You crying just proves how much you cared, how much you loved it, how much you connected to it.
    Don't worry, we all get it too.
    I'm not easily moved to tears but a great game can do it.
    It's heart warming to see.
    Having lost my wife 12 years ago hurts very much and sometimes I feel stories, particularly games where you gain and lose loved ones, speak to me in a way few others would understand.
    It stirs many feelings, some I've addressed, some I haven't.
    When Shulk seemingly lost Fiora or when Melia lost her family, or when Rex seemingly loses Pyra/Mythra it hurts and some of their "final" words or cutscences, like about loving, being upset, perhaps feeling anger, despair and other things or about moving on, hit me on a level few understand, particularly when in my wife's case she had no opportunity to say anything before she died.
    I wonder sometimes what she might of said or thought if she could have before the end, and sometimes, when these characters say what they say, those truly hard hitting impactful ones we remember, in some small way I think "who knows, maybe she'd have said the same"
    It has that layer of anime cheese but the important stuff underneath.....that's real.
    I remember hearing you talk about some mental health stuff and I believe I heard that, like myself, we are both Neuro-divergent (In my specific case it's Autism Spectrum Disorder) so that doesn't make things any easier for either of us.
    I can't claim to know your circumstances or struggles but all I can say is, don't work too hard, do what you enjoy, spend time with your family and closest loved ones and cherish what you have.
    Anyway, I hope you continue seeing the value and importance of video games and I hope you enjoy them too.
