UT Weld Slag Inclusion Signal

This video demonstrates the Ultrasonic Testing signal when inspecting a weld with slag inclusion. Equipment: Olympus EPOCH 1000i UT tester, 60 degree, 4Mhz, 10mm diameter transducer, 0.625" in thick carbon steel plates with single V 30 degree bevel.

Notice the gain is PRL +12 dB...volumetric reflectors are scattering reflectors and higher gain levels are needed to see them properly. The key shows DAC -5 dB. Contrast this to a SLOF indication in another of John's videos at DAC +13 dB.
