In their defense, we're still just tolerating its bullshit. The player still has to occasionally pull some spider-hand nonsense to turn the camera while still using any of the face buttons. It's not the most elegant design ever constructed. That's why I'm in favor of backplate buttons/levers instead of face buttons, leaves the thumbs to do joystick stuff.
wait that's actually me but i got it when i was 9 and finished it later on highschool or some shit cause i stuck at some point can't remember where i got stuck but yea this game ... damn i miss it .
I still vividly remember when I originally started watching this playthrough!! It was early February 2017, I was at a cafe, trying in vain to focus on studying for my uni exams, sad and depressed . . Now I'm procrastinating from studying for a post-graduate, in the exact same manner XD (only not depressed anymore) Some things never change, it seems ^^
I would totally play this if I had a normal job and I was home every night. But I’m happy to watch someone else play this. Can’t believe I never knew these games existed. Cool to see more of fromsoftwares history
Dark souls and demon souls use a lot of influence from the kings field and shadow tower series. If you play these first it makes the newer from games even more rewarding
It is very frustrating to watch this almost a year later. But maybe someone is watching this video who would be interested in more information. In the area where the healing water is, that blob that he killed will will cure poison. He may also cause a little bit of damage, but I figure it is worth it to cure poison. Also behind the house with the sick woman, there is an area with monsters that drop antidotes. Usually there is at least 3 to 5 antidotes the first time you visit that area. Sometimes the monsters regenerate and they will drop more antidotes.
one of my favourite games ever. worked my way from japanese King's field 1 to this. thank all that is holy that running is used :D , some letsplayers just walk then complain it's too slow! phenomenal ost too.
I love kings field...wish they would remaster the first two an have a bundle...I missed this one I guess, but that eternal ring is on ps4 I am playing that such memories, I am see so much DS in it.
I'm surprised fans haven't attempted it properly yet. There's so much you can do to polish these games. With a modern level of polish, more accurate translation and better controls, I would absolutely help fund development if I could. More people need to play these games and remakes that smooth out the flaws could help bring people to appreciate the incredible level design of this series.
@@nackskott12 Sword of Moonlight is a thing, I wanna say someone's at least attempted to remake the games with it, but it's just easier to emulate the existing games at higher framerates and resolutions.
@@Szanth SoM is a cool little tool and there's good projects that have come out of it, but I guess I want to see someone take the Kings Field formula and push it to the next level with newer technology and smoother mechanics.
Starting my third watch of this playthrough. I started playing this game along with these videos and fell in love with it. one of my ringtones is still a song from this game, and one of my alarm clocks is one as well :) Speedrun when?
Fists break barrels too! Just have to have them be level 2 or higher. And they don't break anything shorter than a barrel because fist range is so low. For the same reason you have to aim with the barrel on the right side of the screen to do it, that goddamned fist range.
Yoo what, y'all are writing some crazy sht i thought only pickaxe and the giant heavy sword/hammer you find later on (next to where the infinite Guardians spawn) can break stuff
I absolutely loved this game. I played through it for the first time a few years ago (sometime after DS2) and had such a great time. I would love for From to bring this game back.
This looks like a game I might enjoy, I am a fan of the first two games of Gothic. So which game do you recommend me to start, the first one? and also is there a way to play it on PC? I enjoy more using the mouse and I do not have PS1 or PS2. Also I suppose that trying to get a copy of an old obscure game might be difficult, even if I had the consoles. Third thing, it seems to have good atmosphere but does it have good lore, world building and story? This a re things I do enjoy and why I love Gothic (just the first two).
Play the first one, control wise it might be similar to gothic, though it's much harder in the "where to go" aspect and it holds your hand less. You can play it on emulators, try to look those up. World building and everything related to it is oldschoolish and pretty good.
player24242 Hey thanks, I was planning on playing it just because it has the From Software stamp on it. But if it has good world building and seems from this video that they nailed the atmosphere. Then I might plan to play it for this winter vacation, because I tend to forget everything and lose sense of time when I play this types of games.
farrex0 Again, like with the souls games, nothing is presented to you right away and you have to make some things canon for yourself or search for clues and so on, but there isn't as many of them. Though the atmosphere itself is fantastic. You might have some minor trouble figuring out as to how to run it without problems on an emulator, but if you're not scared of old school games, it's completely worth it.
That was..SO bizaare Just idly watching this during work for background noise and I hear lobos shout out my username on a resub, had zero idea now like 5 years later that that was in here.
If you don't talk to the old man when you come in the church, he will still be alive and there will no skeletons in the church. Most of the time when I have come back almost to the end of the game, he is still sitting there. A few times he has been dead. Of course you miss out on the map.
I have to say, it looks like they either improved a lot in the year between Eternal Ring(2000), and this(2001) or they had a separate group working on Eternal Ring.
TotallyCluelessGamer THANK YOU. i played a game a long time ago with ring in the name and i couldnt remember for the life of me. now i come to find out its a from game! my life has brought me full curcle :)

would have been funny had you sold the idol of sorrow to him, just to have to come all the way back later, to see the shopkeep dead or being executed or something

He went in and jacked up the brightness settings. It might be it just wasn't playing nicely with his capture card/streaming software/whatever and made it look darker for some reason? I dunno.
I unironically like this game so much more than DS2, even tho DS2 (and even DS1) actually borrowed some things wholesale from this game. In the midgame of both games you arrive at a castle of a fallen kingdom that was built by big golems. Both are guarded by statue warriors, and the throne room is empty. After you get a ring that let's you enter the Kings Door, you have the chance to speak to a withered version of the king, now in a sorry state. He explains where he went wrong and gives a hint on how to fix the issue. You also meet multiple 4-armed knights (very similar design to Flexile Sentry), find a merchant dwarf (Gavlaan), and enter a fortress guarded by snake men filled with pressure plate activated arrows and trapped chests. Some of the similarities are stunning.
I like those first few months of the PS2 where game developers had no clue what to do with the analog sticks.
In their defense, we're still just tolerating its bullshit. The player still has to occasionally pull some spider-hand nonsense to turn the camera while still using any of the face buttons.
