Mark Knopfler has it all, songwriter, producer, lyricist, guitar player extraordinaire, his emotional playing, his tone and touch, and note selection is second to none.
Mark is a spectacular guitar player. His notes while fingering the strings are haunting.
I've always been a Dire Straits fan, but I also get a kick out of watching new, younger generations discovering and appreciating them 😊
A legendary performance that stopped all the musicians back stage to stop and stare in awe. One of the best live performances in rock.

The sounds coming from Mark's guitar are magical. No other guitar player has the effect on me that Mark does. Hauntingly beautiful. What a gift Mark has given the world.

Matilda Knopfler is a musical genius and rock god legend.
Dire Stratis or Mark Knopfler are always better heard live. Studio versions fail to capture the essence of the group. Always listen to DS live, you won't regret it.

I love the musicality of this band...all great musicians ... Marks playing always gets me right there ... been lucky enough to see them about six times way back ...
-We can see a classic scene with this song, on the TV show "Miami Vice" in the 1980's, (in last scene of the episode: 'Out Where the Buses Don't Run')

Thanx sooo much for your great reaction, and mega happy you went for this Live video as suggested, and not the boring commercial ‘official route’, which I personally always give a miss. This concert is full of absolute gems from MK & DS so check ‘em out too when you have a mind to. I know you weren’t too bothered by not listening to them, but Marks storytelling lyrics are definitely worth looking into, especially for this particular song/hymn. Dire Straits was a band of exceptional musicians, but it’s an acknowledged fact that Mark as lead singer/songwriter, guitarist & composer was the driving force behind this band’s collective musical accomplishments. I❤MK

As a veteran this song hits hard in way the average civilian don't understand
You want to hear REAL musicians playing music that will take you to places you never knew existed, then check out Pink Floyd especially the Pulse concert. Comfortably Numb, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, High Hopes, Run Like Hell, Wish You Were Here, Coming Back To Life and many more. You can thank me later. That being said, Dire Straits are simply amazing...love them!
