Best way to pay off debt is to keep yourself busy. I worked one full time job and two part time jobs. Got five 3-4 hours of sleep and a few 5-10 minute power naps during my train commute. I did that for two years, got out of debt, saved a little nest egg, started investing and been valuing money (for the most part) since. Its not the healthiest thing in the world, but hey, the body gets used to a lot of punishment over time.
You need to work together, baby or no baby. That's part of marriage. Work what you need to work to get this paid off. We both worked with kids, and it can be done. We worked different shifts and got it done. Now, the kids are grown, we've had no debt for years, and a paid-off house. The best thing I can say is just do it.
That's right. And no time for this wimpy feelings or anxiety garbage .His whiny entitled wife needs to WOMAN UP and find ways to make money at home while needs to MAN UP and work 2-4 real jobs. To hell with feelings. They both messed up they both need to work.
She could babysit another baby. That could bring in enough money so that he would work 10hrs a week overtime instead of 20. I have a really, really hard time with stay at home moms bringing in zero money this day in age. There are so many work from home/ part time options. Why can't she work outside the home two nights a week when he gets home from work? Would also give him time to bond with the baby.
Any first time mom's priority is the brand new baby. Her mind isn't anywhere but on the safety and security of baby. Sadly, it will take a while to get her board.😬
My mom had a job as a teacher's assistant. It was not a high paying job. My dad told her to start putting some money into a retirement savings account. My mom in her mindset resisted. After enough pushing, she finally started saving in her account. As she saw her savings level increase, she started embracing her saving. Her saving account increased. Later in life, she could take cruise vacations and fly to beautiful destinations. Her fellow teacher's assistants and teachers as well were astounded at what she was able to do. They were also jealous and vindictive making snide comments. I say this because anyone could do what my mom did. Also, the feeling that my mom got from saving is the same feeling that Dave Ramsey wants others to feel as they start making progress with their debt snowball method of debt payoff.
There's not much you can do if your spouse isn't on board. If you're both not sharing values and working together towards a common goal, it's nearly impossible to do this stuff. That's why Dave and the team always talk about how crucial it is to communicate with your spouse and do whatever you can to get them on board.
Are people not discussing these things before marriage or do they sprint down the aisle because “we’re in love” without any discussion of how their lives will look after the wedding?🤔🤷🏾♂️
This guy sounds like a great husband and dad. I hope his wife will understand that the sacrifices are temporarily. Just like he will sacrifice more hours working, she will also need to make sacrifices too. Go back to beans & rice.
Delony was a great guy for this question. He's always good at relating to the emotions of callers and I like that about him Caller is awesome too. Seems like a great guy and I know he will make the right moves to be in a good spot with his wife & tackle that debt. Wishing the best for them!
Yup, pay off all my bills. Then divorce, then alimony. Rinse and repeat. I don't trust girls who say they want to be stay at home moms, they could be great sure, but not a chance Id wanna take.
She needs to work from home/work part time/babysit/do Uber or shipt/sell baked goods/clean houses a few weekends a month..something! I'm a mom to two kids and for the life of me I cannot understand a woman that uses being a stay at home mom as a cop out to bring in ZERO money. It drives me nuts.

Getting rid of the debt is important, but so is being there for the family. I would personally work as much as possible, but set aside maybe one or two days to just spend with the family and be there for your wife.
If the answer is out of debt in three years home every night and wife happy or two years killing yourself never home and wife not happy go with the three year plan, it's not the end of the world but you have to commit and stick to it.
Before you pay any bills take it all out of the bank in cash and put it on the table. And show her what is going where. And then ask her wouldn't it be nice if all this was still in our Bank account next month. When people see it on paper its not as shocking as when they see it piled up on the table.
Yeah, it was never that easy. Even when could legally enforce what they wanted against their wife, having a sullen, passive-aggressive wife would often be the result. Good marriage has always been about a relationship, and good leadership is about helping ones subordinates to see the vision, not brute force.
Yeah better to lay down the law and have an unhappy wife who no longer loves her dictator, versus working together and treating her like a respected partner.
I like John I wish he would talk stick to the values of the baby steps and help people find a plan on tackling debt. It seems like he has to many squirrel moments or to much feelings into it I get it but I’m so used to George and Dave getting to the point and help them work a plan through the baby steps.
That endpoint from Dr. John is absolutely on point. It's easy to think that we have great ideas and clear plans, and that if everyone would just accept that and do what we want, then everything will be great and work out fine. If only things were that easy, huh? :)

Why is it hard to get on board for something that can change your lives?
... having debt is a direct threat to the baby's security and safety. Debt is a prison.
