- Shenmue is possibly one of gaming's hidden treasures. It gave inspiration to the prevalent YAKUZA series, and some of the game features inspired a lot of jrpg's like it such as persona. Today, myself JustMasked and my co-host AMZ will be covering everything relating to SHENMUE. From it's captivating story, to its martial arts combat system. We cover just about everything on why this game is a masterclass.

Awesome videos guys! Shenmue is my favourite video game of all time, and literally changed my life! The story is incredible, and you guys have to play Shenmue 2 next, it’ll blow you away!

3:35 Forklifts By far my favorite part of the game...I always try to see how fast I can get through the day and the race is even more fun!
Those forklift mini games tested me, I tried so hard to clear the crates before the timer ran out but im 90% sure its impossible
shenmue's combat and rpg progression of the moves that actually change animation as they evolve is fantastic.

Its very cheap on desktop too and doesn’t require a high spec system to run
They constantly go on sale like that. I got 3 for $3 and I got 1&2 for like $4. Amazing deals for such cool games.
@@NottJoeyOfficial no doubt.. Spent the last few years of my teens obsessed with playin 1&2. Still to do 3... Don't have the time to rott away in bed n binge play thru them all again lol
@@icarus1416 I bought them all digitally on my PS4 for like $6, then went out of my way to spend like $50 on the Dreamcast versions to play them there lol. When I found such a good deal on Shenmue 2 for the Dreamcast in the US I couldn't pass it up.

Shenmue is ANYTHING BUT UNDERRATED, this game was everywhere, promoted to hell and back during its time. It is just that the game kinda sucks, the controls are some of the worst ever, and the whole game is a mundane walking simulator with maybe 10 action parts throughout. Great graphics, revolutionary title, but as a game it is bad and boring and frustrating. SO yea, in more real terms, it is rather "overrated" as opposed to be "underrated."
Hear this point, but it’s one of those games with very clear direction I feel. The story for this game is great, the start of an overarching saga, music was outstanding but for the most part, it was supposed to be a slower paced game to get immersed in but thats the dividing factor and a valid criticism but again, it is each to their own opinion, we gave ours but if you didn’t enjoy it, thats also fair
P.s: I also do understand the controls part, I spent 2 hours trying to learn how to walk
@@MaskedProductions191 What story? You mean how nothing really happens the entire 3 games? I played the HD version and I got pretty far, all the way to the forklift part but damn, I couldn't take it anymore.
At least I heard part 2 was good, but part 3 was pure crap.
@@Faith99-r4m The story really kicks into gear in Shenmue 2 so you can't really comment on the story till you've played that. That said I get why the first game 'lost' some people because it is slow and methodical. 2 corrects a ton of the issues with 1. Ignore what people say about 3 - not sure how an opinion can be formed when it hasn't been played.
I have seen this argument thrown around about this game since forever. You're just mad that someone enjoys something that you don't and instead of just minding your own business and just going about your day, you choose to argue and whine with people on the internet about it. How about doing something productive that doesn't involve you attacking people for their difference of opinions
So in other words it's just not for you. Thousands of people adore these games as the best games of all time (minus 3 lol)
I can't lie,this just looks like a Yakuza knockoff
not quite, it came out before yakuza but yakuza took elements from this game.
I mean… it came out 6 years before Yakuza. And Toshihiro Nagoshi who created Yakuza worked with the team making Shenmue.
I know Yakuza has its own style but it’s pretty clear that parts of Shenmue, particularly aspects of the exploration, distracting minigames, and intense quick-time events, heavily inspired the style of Yakuza
@@CS-om3kj Alot of the SEGA team who still work on Yakuza worked on Shenmue and are still there.
I really wish people would stop it with the comparisons to Like A Dragon/Yakuza because they're just surface level observations at best. And Shenmue came out 6 years before the first game in the Like A Dragon/Yakuza series and many of the staff that works on Like A Dragon/Yakuza also worked on both Shenmue 1 and 2
