    Volquartsen is one stand up company. I have only good things to say about them. I bought a product of theirs for my Ruger 10/22 a while back, and I was having some issues installing it. I thought it was issues with the Volquartsen product, so I contacted them and they promptly sent out another. When I received the new one, I was still having issues with it, so I contacted them again. So they sent another. Right after they mailed the 2nd one, I realized that the problem was with the 10/22 and not Volquartsen's product. They treated me like a king and I can only reccomend them. I appreciated what they did soo much, it was really darn cool of them to sent me 2 more products, no questions asked.
    I felt absolutely terrible for this whole situation. I feel the only way I can pay them back is to show them the love they showed me and recommend their product. Their products are top notch!

    Nice little plinker.. All though a 3" pipe in a .22LR makes pretty much all .22LR ammo subsonic so..

  • @RU2AIM
    @RU2AIM 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Cool thing about a 3" barrel is you have more subsonic ammo available than you do with a longer barrel since ~1200fps - ~1250fps rated ammo out of a rifle should exit this barrel around under the transonic barrier of ~1130fps.

    • @bodinian
      @bodinian ปีที่แล้ว

      Now does that factor in the length of the suppressor it'll be used with? Serious question.

    Well, this explains why they would not cut my barrel down when I ordered my regular black mamba last year, despite advertising those same services on their website. Hey! Let's just get them to buy another pistol at 1400 in 6 months when we release the mini! Does the mini also sound like a babby rattle when you shake it? Whew! I feel so much better after typing that out! It's almost a cure to buyer's remorse. BTW, I still like the pistol despite all of that. :p

      Ruger's pistols sound like maracas when you shake them, so I guess a simulation of a Ruger should as well.
      Weirdly, my Ruger all-metal Mark IV Target (with Voquartzen Accurizing kit) makes no sound when shaked (or even, stirred). It's a distributor custom version with black anodized aluminum lower.

    Back in the 1970s there was a 45cal. fully automatic select fire (three rounds full auto) pistol out of South Africa called the Black Mamba. This gun was so fast that it could at full auto put 3 rounds into a 3in. circle at a ridiculous distance. (i don't remember it was a long time ago) And at a rate of well over 1000 rounds per min. (if not limited at 3 rounds per trigger pull) (again I don't remember the actual rate) Based on the standard 1911 action but pushed to its limit. I believe that it actually had a few less parts and was made entirely of 440 steelSo a little heavy which helped its recoil in full auto. Don't know what happen to it I've never heard of it sense then. At the time I read about it in an old Soldier of Fortune. And I believe it was long rounds and not ACP. Put I could be wrong again and it was ACP. Would make more sense because it was handle clip feed,.

      Of course he can shoot the gun legally without a suppressor on it, there are no minimum barrel length restrictions on pistols. A snub nose 38 has a barrel length of about 2 and a 1/4 inches and a 38 Derringer has a barrel length as short as 1 and 1/2 inches. Perhaps the above commenter is confused because on a integrity suppressed rifle, the total barrel length includes the suppressor. So in that case, yes, removing the silencer COULD make the weapon illegal if you do not have a short barrel rifle (SBR) stamp. However, this is a pistol, not a rifle and yes, I was extremely frustrated that we didn't get a comparison between suppressed and unsuppressed.

    The way i understood it, the longer the barrel, the longer the distance between the two parts of the iron sights, which increases the accuracy of the shooter.
    Given that you use a red dot sight, the barrel length becomes irrelevant for that.

    • @no.step.on.snek.2423
      @no.step.on.snek.2423 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The distance between the sights dont make the gun any more accurate themselves , but a longer barrel is generally more accurate. What makes the longer guns seem more accuarate is the distance between the sights are more precise to aim...

    I shoot 22lr as a cheaper alternative. This gun kinda chokes the life out of that mindset. I can still shoot squirrel sized groups with my stock 22/45 so I can’t see the advantage. Cost wise that is. I’m sure it’s mechanically superior in every way, but these days it’s about the money I can save. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through you for the moment. 😉🤙🏼🖖🏼

    You definitely do not need to shoot sub sonics in it, with a 3" barrel almost any ammo is sub sonic. I did this same thing with a Browning Buckmark. Cut the barrel down to 3" and put a red dot and suppressor on. Sweet shooter!

  • @sixtofive
    @sixtofive 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's not that 22lr is hard to find, there's plenty out there. It's just hard to justify paying the current prices. The same goes for 9mm and 5.56. If you can stomach paying nearly $1 per round, you can buy enough to keep shooting all day. It's definitely a good time to be sitting on a well stocked pile of ammo and reloading supplies accumulated during the good years.

      Any idea if suppressors add velocity (or make up for the loss)?

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@deucedeuce1572 Not real sure. If anything they may reduce velocity to some measurable level. The velocity generated on a bullet is due to the seal between the jacket and the barrel bore. It's like a piston in a cylinder, requiring a tight seal to achieve good power. Break the seal in some way and that pressure escapes and doesn't accelerate the projectile. A suppressor is designed to control the escaping velocity of gasses and the refilling velocity of atmosphere into the bore after the bullet escapes, reducing noise (mostly noise due to pressure shockwaves, sounds like a sharp boom in our ear but is actually a gradual ramping up of a roar of noise that happens too quickly to discern).

    • @deucedeuce1572
      @deucedeuce1572 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@exothermal.sprocket Thanks. Was wondering, because barrel extensions increase velocity. It's just not as much as a barrel though, because there's no seal around the projectile. I'm sure you're right though. If any, it's probably negligible.

Short answer is any manufacturer in the gun industry ammunition. Firearms, parts, optics and so on have all said the same thing regarding shortages and it all pertains to parts due to high demand of 2020. Hence ammunition is not the only thing dealing with massive amounts of shortages and long backlogs. If only shortages was ammunition then you could possibly blame manufacturer's but that's clearly not the case.
