  • When it comes to SEO, doing the little things extremely well is often the difference between generating and not generating results. Structure data adds tremendous value to your site by helping search engines better understand your data. Schema.org was created by the major search players in order to give consistency to structured data on the web.
    According to their site, Schema.org "is a collaborative, community activity with a mission to create, maintain, and promote schemas for structured data on the Internet, on web pages, in email messages, and beyond." In this video, I share how to leverage this site to find, create and add structured data to your website.

    I didn't find much helpful as it doesn't tell how to practically implement (with a live example). BUT, it solved one of my big question that we can add it with GTM! So a big thanks to you to answer my query.. As a suggestion, please if you can make a step by step tutorial for how to add schema taking an example and doing it A-Z in the video. Thanks..

    I noticed it is very common to use the Compacted Document Form instead of the Flattened Document Form which is how yoast would have it set up, where the JSON-LD is structured inside an @graph. For example { "@contecxt" : "/.../" , "@graph" : [{...}, {...}] }. Are there any good reasons why one would use one form over the other? I only see examples of Compacted Forms being used on TH-cam.

      Yes, You can add multiple schema types to define all the elements you need to mark up on your site.
      You can add them in all one JSON tag or create multiple tags.

    Most useful video about adding schema because you don't just use words like "add" and "fix" by themselves. You use them and show what it means using them.^^
    Question: if I have a page with several things to mark up. Do I put them in the same tag in gtm just by adding the complete code for each underneath or do I create for each schema ( e.g. each image on same page) an extra tag for that page? If I sell products, which cost 5 digit price and don't use a Webshop, only put them online showing them to people we have it. Would you use image or product schema?
    If I use a local business schema that would be an "all pages" tag right? In the local business schema one add a URL, would it be wise to add a website schema too simultaneously for all pages?
    Lots of questions but you said ask in video ;) I just had to start learning about this stuff, so I know very little about usage.

    • @smamarketing
      @smamarketing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great questions!
      So when adding schema you can string it all together using JSON. If you go that route, make sure that you test it.
      Since JSON won't slow your site down, I recommend that you break them up based on purpose. So I break up my tags by Organizational Schema, Blog Schema, Video Schema and so forth.
      Then I can go back and check each tag and how it fires.

    We recently updated our free Schema / JSON LD WordPress plugin that we developed years ago. This new version has all the latest standards and makes it a lot easier to insert schema data into WP sites.
    You can find the plugin here: wordpress.org/plugins/local-search-seo-contact-page/
    We also have a multi-site version that we are putting the finishing touches on and should be finished shortly.

    Hi SMA Marketing, i have two questions. The first is if you know of a website where i can past the URL of my competitors and I can get their schema code? The second question is about tag manager. As you said, tag manager is one of the easiest ways to implement the code. However, can you tell me what is the best way, according to you? I want the website to be as fast and as properly coded as possible, so i'm looking for the best way, not the easiest way. Thank you so much!

      Hey Ivan, you can out any url into the structured data testing tool and if there is schema, you'll be able to see it and copy the code. search.google.com/structured-data/testing-tool.
      For implementation, if you can add the code directly to the page header that is the best.

      100% The information that you are able to connect to the search engines is extremely powerful. I agree, the requirement for pricing is annoying, but they don't always show it on the SERPs. But one client we added this markup to saw the revenue generated from marked up pages increase more than 500%. Very helpful video! Thank you!
    Question: a contact us page can have an immutable schema markup but if you are doing a blog and you add schema markup via Google Tag Manager, don't you need to adjust the schema markup for every post?
    Is that something that Tag Manager does automatically with the schema you paste, or is there a more elaborate approach to do so via GTM?

    • @smamarketing
      @smamarketing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great question. So for your blog articles, you would need updated information for each post. This is where GTM is super helpful.
      You can create variables to dynamically pull that data from your site and put it into your schema.
      I'll do a video on this!

    My website is related to gold price . Recently i saw few of my competitors showing real time gold price in there Title and Meta Description . Can this be done using Schema ?

    Great video. Thanks a lot 🙂. I am building a website which talks about a Saint and a historical place. Do we have any schema related to it. Thanks in advance.

    Hey. Great video. I've placed the tag manager on the heads and bodys on the site and created two different product tags in google manager. I used the json product data from steal our json and changed the relevant information. I then created custom triggers (for custom pages) exactly like your video shows, saved everything, published it. I see it, it's published. but when i go to the google structured data testing tool there is no detected product structured data. I'm at a loss here. Obviously i'm missing something, but i've follow this video through at least 5 times now. I don't see it.

      So Google did change a few things and you need to JavaScript wrap. You can grab it from my blog here: www.smamarketing.net/blog/how-to-add-structured-data-to-your-website

    Thank you !!! This is very helpful.
    QUESTION: if i have only html code(i do the html markup myself - no cms), where do i put the schema markup JSON-LD? Head or Body? In order to be crawled properly. Thx

      @smamarketing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great questions, the great thing about JSON is you can drop it pretty much anywhere. I'd put it in the head, just because is's higher in the page.

    How do I add different schema markup on different pages? For instance, the About page may be a 'Person' markup whereas a Company page may be an "Organisation" markup.

    • @smamarketing
      @smamarketing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey James, you would create the JSON-LD you want and add it directly to those specific pages. What CMS is your site on?

    I'm not sure that the Google Tag Manager is the best way...what about other search engines? If I use Google tool, the improvements will be only with them...

    • @smamarketing
      @smamarketing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      All the major search engines support tagging tools. You can also add the code directly into the page as well. Tag manager allows for implementation without having to touch code, which is a bonus for many.

      But If I use it, the improvements will be only for Google search Engine or also for other search engines?

    great vid thanks very much. It does not seem difficult but Is there no way to automate this? Looks like you have to do it manually for each page

    • @smamarketing
      @smamarketing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are some tools to automate it and you can create scripts in tag manager. That is a little more advanced and will do a video on that soon. The goal of this video was to help people get started.

    Does structure data in Google search console is the same thing as schema.org?
    What is the difference?
    Thanks

    • @smamarketing
      @smamarketing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! So Structured Data is a way to mark up your data. Schema.org is the standard for the industry. Search Console will help you verify your structured data and help you diagnose any issues.

    Great video man thank you. Quick question: instead of using GTM to implement the json, cant we just copy it to the header php file instead?? thanks

    • @smamarketing
      @smamarketing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You sure can. I recommend doing that. GTM is great for creating dynamic schema but for most you just need to place it in the header.
