Dale - intersted in how much you paid for the landy originally ? thinking of doing the same thing and have found a series 111 . cheers

Hi mate, I paid £7k for it. Admittedly too much I think.

Dale, how does the reel attach in the middle? I can't see where to mount it on my S3 truck cab.

There should be three anchor points. The reel is just a bit above shoulder height on the cab. Hope that helps.

@DaleReubin thank you, mine doesn't have a hole there, I dont know what sort of bracket is available to retro fit. You made installation look easy.

That sticky stuff remover is so satisfying

Ah man, it was the best! I have no idea what that black glue is but so glad it came off.

I repaired the bulkhead on my 88. The replacement patch panels are pretty good and inexpensive. If you want to use this as an opportunity to learn to weld and do the repair yourself it won't add much to the cost of your restoration. The trick in any project that you ultimately want to sell for a profit is balancing expenses against eventual resale value. Do work that will increase the resale value without eating too far into your profits. Personally, I wouldn't pay a lot for a Series 3 that has a dodgy bulkhead with a questionable repair, so that's an obvious place to start.

Thank you, that’s a really helpful bit of advice! I think I’m leaning towards getting it done. I don’t trust my welding skills so I’ll probably get someone who knows what they’re doing. But you’re right, it’s a real red flag for a potential buyer.

If the bulkhead is rusty there then expect the foot wells to be rotten along with the window seat across the top bulkhead seal, footwell A panel, door A poste, and floor mounting. This is a lot of work so just pop a new bulkhead in and save yourself hours of work, and it will be a huge selling point and add value to the car. Hope this helps

I’d love to replace the entire bulkhead but I might get someone to look at it first to see if it’s absolutely necessary. A whole new bulkhead is a huge chunk of cash.

@@DaleReubin check out Mike @ Britannic restorations. On his TH-cam channel he has a mini series on restoring a series two bulkhead, as well as restoring series 3 padded dash tops. His tutorial videos are very good, with excellent explanations and straight forward dialogue, kind of what you would expect from a Yorkshire Man. Good luck

    Do it! Fix the bulkhead!

I would like to if I’m honest. It just comes down to cost. I’ll get some quotes.

Bulkhead repair. Depends on the level of finish you want. There is everything from repair sections to complete replacement bulkheads. But I bet there is more rust to find...between bottom of windscreen and top of bulkhead there is a seal that traps water and causes rust.
But overall pretty tidy looking truck.

Thanks, that’s helpful to know. I’m nervous to start taking it all apart but don’t want to sell it to someone while it’s rotting.

The biggest issue will be matching the paint.... and respray... i honestly think leave it. Especially if this is for flipping.

And now count the nuts and bolts that hold the truckcap 😂 In a Land Rover you drive with your finkers X 😅

lol ,,, you clearly dont make your living with your hands ,,, you have a very steep learning curve ahead ,,, good luck with the welding , no one buys a land rover with a rusty bulkhead or needing a rear x member ,,, both are just hassles and expense ,,, the bulkhead is the biggest red flag to most folk.
