Rock City Gardens in Georgia will amaze you. Located atop Lookout Mountain just 6 miles from downtown Chattanooga, Rock City is a true marvel of nature featuring massive ancient rock formations, gardens with over 400 native plant species, and breathtaking See 7 States panoramic views. Rock City Tennessee address1400 Patten Rd, Lookout Mountain, GA 30750
Take an unforgettable journey along the Enchanted Trail where each step reveals natural beauty and wonders along the woodland path. Experience the magic of Fairyland Caverns and Mother Goose Village, visit one of our regional gift shops and dine at the Big Rock Grill. Rock City is splendid year-round - Each season there's a new reason to visit! Because of Rock City's closeness to Chattanooga and ONLY A FEW MILES UP the road FROM RUBY FALLS which is in Tennessee, it is frequently believed to be in Tennessee. The tour of Rock City begins in the aptly named Garden's Gateway on the far side of the Rock City gift shop. An ADA-accessible entrance is down the hall to the right of the Gateway. The Grand Corridor is an excellent way to acclimatized your group to the rigors of walking in Rock City. The pathway occasionally narrows and there are some steps, but face it, if you have a problem here, bail out and take the ADA accessible (green) trail. At the Needle's Eye the trail narrows significantly, and walking sideways may be required, before it opens into Deer Park. Goblins' Underpass is a reference to Fairyland, later on trail. On the left after Goblins Underpass a set of rock steps takes visitors up to Legacy Lane. This is a section of the ADA accessible trail that leads to the 1932 Rock City entrance. It can also be used to get to the Birds of Prey show.
A choice presents itself before you enter Rock City's most scenic area. For those free-spirits willing to throw caution to the wind, take the Swingalong Bridge, a solidly built swinging bridge with an excellent view of the Tennessee River valley on clear days. For those who want to keep a little earth under their feet choose the Stone Bridge, crafted from solid rock with an excellent view of the swinging bridge.
Across the bridge lies was is collectively known as Seven States Plaza, featuring what is one of the best-known scenic views in the world. Peering into Georgia's Ridge and Valley section featuring long mountains (like Taylor's Ridge) separated by well-defined valleys. Within the plaza is the See Seven States marker showing the approximate directions of the states. On a clear day (only about 10% are clear enough in the summer), a knowing eye can spot the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Cohutta Mountains and Rich Mountain in the southern Appalachian province.
Added to the plaza in 1991, the Seven States Flag Court has additional scenic views backed by the flags of each of the seven states. The following year the Cliff Terrace was added with food, a movie on Rock City, and amenities. In 2005 a pavilion was added to the plaza so Rock City could host larger events. Leaving the plaza the trail makes a dramatic drop into Fat Man's Squeeze before returning to the area near Seven States Plaza. Here is a dramatic view of some man-made falls and additional scenic views into Georgia's Valley and Ridge area. Continuing on, the 1000-ton Balanced Rock is the final natural attraction in Rock City. Watch for a shortcut shortly after Balanced Rock if you do not wish to see Fairyland Cavern. Frieda Carter loved the children's stories from her native Germany and created Fairyland Cavern as an homage to these tales in 1947. Garnet hired Atlanta sculptor Jesse Sanders to replicate the images of Frieda's childhood. Sanders first had to learn how to work with the relatively new concept of black light, which would allow the cavern to remain dark but light up the statues. In 1964 Sanders completed Mother Goose Village, based on the characters in various nursery rhymes.

Hi again! I play lots of weddings next door to Rock City @ Grandview Mansion- never tire of the gorgeous view. Sometimes I hear people clomping across the swinging bridge:) Also weddings across the street @ Fairyland Club. Brides sometimes stay in the cottages around the Starbucks. I Play Cmas music @ Rock City sometimes too. It's a magical place!

Rock City is a special place in itself, it must be nice during the holidays with all the decorations and special events with musicians, it would be real cool to see you perform there too👍. We did not get to explore across the street, it would have been nice to see the old gas station where the star bucks is now, I guess it will have to be another trip to see all the things we missed. Thank you for watching and commenting, it is a pleasure to hear from a local adding things that will probably help someone reading this comment, this is another reason I am pinning your comments so it will be the first for readers to see and get a better feeling of the area from a resident. Thank you again.

Went there when I was a kid (early 60's), loved it. Took my son there when he was little. It was foggy, very eerie. We were the only ones there. He loved it too. Definitely worth a stop regardless of the weather.

66 year old Cajun boy here. My 1st. trip to the mountains was in '65, when I was 12. One of the things that I remember vividly from that trip was all the endless miles of seeing "SEE ROCK CITY" barns. Not like they were in an urban setting either, but in the country...the REAL country, and on a real farm ! As a young, webbed foot bayou boy, to say it was different, is an understatement. My 1st. encounter with a mountain and rocks was at....yep...ROCK CITY ! As a 12 year old mountain virgin, there was nothing like it. The place most definitely had an enchanting feel to it.

This Place is definetly not for those who have fear of heights, I agree with you, although they have an ADA path for the hard areas to get to the plaza and avoid the terraces but that’s half the fun. 😊 it is something to admire the way Freida made this place into a garden. she definetly had vision not to mention the financial ability to accomplish it.

John you are very good at these location tour type videos & I think this is your best yet! Many shots in this video made me want to see a wider field of view. Well done, makes me want to go there & see it! We will definitely stop here next time.

Thanks for the kind comment, just making and sharing some memories. If you stop by there they have a 3 tickets package; Rock City, Ruby Falls and the Incline Train to lookout mountain, you do not have to do them in one day. Take care guys.

WoW, those were the days my friend. It’s one of those places you want to back. We were there during the week to beat the weekend crowd but I would not mind going on a weekend or holidays to see all the special events. It’s very peaceful and nice family atmosphere.

That bee was all up in your business. I'm glad you chose the swinging bridge - I really liked the views from there. It's funny, there is a lovers leap at another state park I went to in IL this summer that had the same story. It would have been hard to lay that floor in fat man squeeze. It looks as though it may have been man made? (the floor that is)

Hey Josh good to hear from you buddy. I have around 3 minutes of footage on that bumble bee going from flower to flower doing its thing and was amazed how hard they work but I guess it got tired of me hanging around and told me to keep my distance LOL. The views here are very unique from every point of the mountain real cool but the swinging bridge is the best I think. Yes, Lovers leaps are all over the world, goes to show us we are not all that different:) legends or not legends. I was able to squeeze in Fatman Squeeze without having to crawl, I assume over the years they paved the walkways for clensiness and safety, many people avoid that for fear LOL they have a different path for the once that are not up to it.

That's about right. We took a break at the top and rested for an hour so it took us 3 hours total.

Hi John. I have another question. If you take the incline to the top, can you then access Ruby Falls and Rock City from up there or do you access them from someplace else? Thanks

    • @JohnCRV
      @JohnCRV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

From Rock City to point park it's about 3 miles and Ruby Falls is somewhere in between. It's best to drive to Ruby Falls first since it is on the way to Rock City.
Fun fact; Rock city is actually in Georgia. Just past the Tennessee border.

It is Chattanooga TN, not Georgia. You can see 7 states from the top of Lookout Mountain.

I'm under the understanding that Rock city is on the Georgia side of the border.
