@danielwelch1382 - if you don’t think it’s possible for a dog to be 100% one breed then you should go back to Biology class in high school or take some online courses. With that being said I do not think that my dogs results’ in this video are accurate in fact I know they’re not, but to say nothing can be 100% is contradicting to your own words. If dogs can be mixed, dogs can be pure. DNA is passed on from parent to offspring. 50% from Sire 50% from Dam.

@@prideofthesouthlandkennels aren’t they using DNA from dogs that established what we have now to determine if the breed is “100%” ? And if so that would simply mean no one is claiming anything to be pure because most of if not all dogs were created by using multiple different Canis Lupus to get desired function/look. If that’s the case then it’s 100% in accordance to the American bulldog DNA 🧬 patent for lack of a better word … leads to me to think that if this dogs DNA is saying it aligns with original establishers DNA then it is a American Bulldog. But do u agree with the Phenotype that’s a different story. Awesome dog in my opinion looks to APBT for my taste but regardless 🔥 🔥 🔥 trying to learn more about American Bulldogs/ Dog DNA in general let me know if I’m wrong with my assumptions. Thanks 🙏

They did studies and research to map out the genes of breeds by testing dogs that were registered as those breeds and located the common denominator in those dogs and determined that was the gene for said breed. With that being said it doesn’t mean that their tests and research were correct but they had to start somewhere. Phenotype has shown to be expressed by only 1/8 of the DNA. In other words a dog can look like an American Pit Bull Terrier or American Bulldog but only truly be 1/8 or 12.5% of that breed. Phenotype does not determine a dogs breed or type. Dogs were named after geographical location and job type not phenotype. “Pure bred” dogs today are bred for looks and gene pools are only so big so dogs tend to get consistent phenotypes under breed names. Everyone has this certain image of the American Bulldog so any time a dog doesn’t have a smashed muzzle or huge head people say it’s looks like an APBT. These dogs weren’t fully mature in this video. Once they got fully grown and developed they lost the terrier type look. Anyone that seen the size of these dogs in person and still thought they were APBT were not educated on Bulldogs.

Same people that are saying dogs can’t be pure in this video are the same people saying my dogs are mutts on other videos because the DNA wasn’t 100% through wisdom panel on the dogs I tested. Being “pure bred” on paper is not the same as DNA though.

Hey man I appreciate the transparency. I don’t get all the drama about certain dogs or breeds being mixed breeds. All dogs are mixed breeds. Also I believe most breeds have been weakened ( definitely in America) by breeding to such a tight type. When done well adding new genetics to a line improves the breed. You have good looking bulldogs who seem stable and you have proved they can work. What more do people want. Ps. Hey Daniel I have been messaging you from a my wife’s account ( faith bonazzi ). Great channel, i really appreciate all the info provided on that purposeful and working dog. have a sweet 3.5yo female pitbull that's a total sweetheart, great family member that we love dearly but, I wanted a male with a little more territorial presence to keep an eye on the shop/garage as well as being a bit wary of total strangers. The American bulldog is definitely on my short list so, I'm still looking for an old southern type farm dog lineage here in eastern Canada. If you could point me in the right direction, that would be really helpful. Sadly, it looks like it would be easier to find a dogo argentino or even a good bandog lineage than a bulldog around here. I laughed when you mentioned that one of your stud was taking a break, must have been exhausted from all that breeding, jk...

Hi! I had bought a pure bred American bulldog through a breeder In Missouri and had him shipped to me here in south Florida. Apparently his mom was a Scott and father a Johnson.. he was EVERYTHING to me and unfortunately passed 3 years ago just shy of 12 years old. I’m coming to you with a few questions I’m hoping I can reach out to you in private as lately every single “American bulldog” I see looks nothing like champ (name of mine that passed) and I notice they are MUCH harder to find as the ones I see literally have such smushed in faces that I swear they are these XL bullies or I don’t even know but definitely NOTHING like the American bulldog I had as well as 6 friends I grew up with who had “full bred Johnson’s” I mean who knows right? Point is at least I know they all were not pits as I grew up around pits and know the difference very well when I see the two. Champ was also AKC registered, a working dog for hogs is how they raised his parents and I believe are known for, and you can tell because they are taller than pits, body is more proportionate and their nose (at least in the days I was looking and grew up lol) was always longer than pits. Sorry so long but I’ve been really annoyed by this as I’m seeing all of these dogs being called an American bully (I know it’s pit bull) but I donno I’m very confused and again, I grew up around both dogs! I’m now torn between getting another or trying a completely diff type of breed like a boerboel. That’s also because I am still so broken from losing champ… I don’t know I’d handle another American bulldog well as he was just perfect in every way to me. Sorry so long but I see you responding to ppl and I just find a ton of respect for you. Would I be able to email you pics of champ and talk to you via email, text, phone lol for a few minutes? I just ran across this video and I am not trying to be rude in my comment. It just seems extremely different to hear about black American Bulldogs. I was mainly a Doberman guy but I have experience with American Bulldogs. Back then the big debate was Scott or Johnson? Beside the black color some of these dogs don't look like typical AB's. I understand some testing was done and that's what is being said, but being much older and having had AB's years ago, some of those dogs do not look like your typical American Bulldog. I'm not trying to have people upset, just stating what should be obvious to anyone that's even somewhat familiar with AB's. They may have DNA tests that claim they are AB's but they don't look like AB's. Man has created every breed on earth anyway, so creating a black AB is of course possible but the breed was bred mostly white for quite a long time. There are existing breeds that have a look and even some working ability that is similar to an AB, why make a black American Bulldog and start changing the image of the breed? Just curious and I am not trying to be sarcastic. I genuinely am wondering what is the purpose of this black American Bulldog? Thank you and good luck.

Alan Scott has these dogs on his yard and so does Don Matthews. In fact that’s exactly where these dogs come from, directly off their yards. I didn’t make the cross. If they’re ok with them, I can’t say much about it. What some people don’t understand is black doesn’t just come from the infamous cross. There are black dogs out there before these crosses. They originally crossed the APBT in because of health reasons. Then Don wanted to take it a step further and create a black line of dogs. I appreciate you not being rude with your comment. These black dogs really excel at catch dogs if you ask me. They’re good dogs but very high drive and seem to be really healthy and very well put together dogs. The dogs in this video are young. As far as the “look” goes, once they fill out and mature they look like your typical American Bulldog. I’ve seen white dogs that look just like these dogs. A color is just a color, I don’t care what color they are as long as that color doesn’t affect what I want my dogs to do for me.

Thank you very much for the response. I agree that the only thing that really matters is the working ability of the dog. Maybe it's like you said, and these are young dogs so they still have to grow into themselves. Of course, everyone's experiences are different and everyone has their own likes and dislikes. If these dogs are coming off those yards then there is no reason to question them. I think sometimes older folks just look at things and wonder "why?". I love my AB's and I love them in their traditional colors/look but that's just me and I live in a very hot and sunny climate so other than my Dobermans I've never had black or brown dogs and the Doberman never handled this heat too well either. I’m getting away from the black hybrid dogs though. It’s not what I wanted to do when I started. I did want dogs from Alan and Don but when I was looking that’s the type of breedings they were doing. Black pits where usually more small and feline like...special strain...
    Old timers know.whats up...
And the black dogs didn't have alot of the bigger bull dog.mixed in like the other pit strains....
But the black.dogs.where argued also to be more game....sort of like reds known to be 🔥

Can they actually test for a difference in APBT and AST? Seems to be that it should be impossible.
BTW, Im 100 percent on board with you regarding the human clot-shot. I wont be getting that BS either. 👍

Absolutely, I believe there are several breeds that derive from the original Bulldog. American Bulldog, American Pit Bull Terrier, Amstaff, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Bull Terrier and Boston Terrier. I’m sure several more beyond that list as well but those are the more mainstream breeds.

You said it best..... Comes from the cross with amstaff and apbt in the early 90s. All this proves is that so many were right and they dont go back far enough to show the crosses.

🤦🏻‍♂️🤷‍♂️ I’m having a hard time understanding exactly what you’re saying. You’re saying the tests don’t go far enough back for those dogs to show up?

    • @thamontgomeryz
      @thamontgomeryz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@prideofthesouthlandkennels sorry, what im trying to say is. As the cross wasnt done recently, it wont show up in the test results. I have seen known crosses come back purebred many times as the cross was done way back. Yet will see them show mix when the cross is done recently

    • @prideofthesouthlandkennels

The way it was explained to me was how they read the DNA markers, they can tell how far back or how close up the “different “ breed or cross is. If it’s a very low percentage and they feel like it’s so far back in the ancestry that it doesn’t amount to anything, then they won’t report it. However I opted out of that and told them I wanted to know everything. Whether or not I got accurate information, I will never know because I can’t personally disprove anything.

@@prideofthesouthlandkennels thats how it was explained to me as well by Embark, Wisdom, Accumetrics, Labgenvet but after testing some dogs i have personally bred or was part of the breeding. Have learned that they must only go back 3 maybe 4 generations. Anything beyond that doesnt seem to show, even though they say it will. Im not hating on your dogs or test results just to be clear. Im just giving you my experience when using these companies for breed results. But we both know those F1 pups were bred back to pure Ab creating F1B and those F1Bs were bred to pure AB as well, eventually getting to generational pure with successful breedings and trait selection.

🤔 Now I know there’s PitBull, American Staffordshire and Labrador on pretty most black Or colored American Bulldogs and to be completely honest I really don’t care. As long as the god does what a Bulldog is supposed to do I’ll rather have it that a “ purebred and registered “ whatever.
I just want a good dog from from good parents.
