What I've noticed is how calm and quiet the farm seems! It's so peaceful and even more relaxing to watch. I miss the day care packs and their barks of excitement but, I love how there's a feeling of individual attention and the dogs not being lost in the crowd (for lack of a better description). ❣️

I am so thrilled to see Luke work with bulldogs, pit mixes, dogs that have been demonized in the United States and used for the thriving dog fighting underground in the US. I am a senior and a friend with a large pit bull mix over months socialized, is wonderful to have over. In the emergency room (I am retired) the majority of dog bites were from provocation, often unintentional; a child poking the dog in the eye, grabbing and yanking on the tail, and grabbing a dogs genitals. The dogs were often euthanized. Mia Lykke Nielsen, horse trainer of the most difficult horses talks first of developing trust and leadership, that the animal looks to you for direction. Take a immense amount of patience and repetition. Luke, a natural at communication and reading communication does the human race credit, turning these dogs wonderful companions and family members. I hope Luke will talk about shouting, yelling, hitting, or yanking a dog around has profound effects that can lead to a dog losing their life through surrender and euthanasia. In the United States a dog surrendered and reported a biting many shelters label them as unadoptable with no regard if true or untrue or the circumstances. Sorry to be so long, but I work at dog transport and see heartbreaking stores frequently. Luke, Sam, the Farm, everyone is the tonic for me.

I saw the video of the question regarding Freddo and how he handles the other Shelter dogs. As much as he Does play with the other dogs. He Does have this "Check on the Pack " type of thing. Check on dad as well. It's suddle but there. If Everyone is walking, he may go ahead of the back. But he returns to check on dad . If staying in one place. He walks around. But like luke said before. He's Always watching the shelter dogs, mostly Chance. He's Always within range . If you watch him/ watching Chance by luke. Chance seeing the other pups including his roommate running. Chance is on abit of allert .Freddo is not far away watching Chance. Not luke . It's Amazing how Freddo would just give his All to protect his owners and the Whole pack if needed. But ! He held back ,calmed down as Luke calmed Chance down. Incredible. Like Luke said. Freddo was like that in the beginning. Trust ,Love ,Respect, Kindness goes a long way . Chance has a Chance at a Wonderful life . But i think in the end . Freddo may end up a bigger Teacher then he thinks . Don't leave out Yo-Yo either. I've seen Chance take a few clues from Freddo to. Like eye contact saying I know calm down. Luke already said it . 😆 🤣 😂

👏👏❤️Luke can definitely read the doggys’ minds. His innate empathy for them is incredible. It’s so wonderful to see someone who was born with a skill, use it to change dogs’ lives.

If there's anyone on the planet that can help Chance it's Uncle Luke. I wonder what it is about sticks that makes them so irresistible to dogs? I love watching them prance around with them.

American Bulldogs were bred to take down bulls and boars and they can easily do it. This is partly why the literature says the American Bulldog is not for first time or novice dog owners. Chance appears to be pure-bred Johnson type. My first dog as an adult, Thor was a pure-bred papered Scott type American Bulldog, actually the great-great-great grandson of Chance of the first "Homeward Bound" movie. His pedigree paper shows that lineage. My friend talked me into rescuing Thor and his mate a female pure-bred Johnson American Bulldog, Bambi because they were on the very short euthenasia list at the shelter, and then they had puppies. And I fell in love with the breed because they are extremely loyal and affectionate to their family, but the males can be animal and food aggressive. They can be human aggressive if they feel their humans are threatened. They are very intelligent but very stubborn and this may be why you don't see this breed as law-enforcement service animals, at least I haven't seen it. They are too stubborn and too goofy to be service animals I think. I've rescued and owned a few American Bulldogs since. I remember when I took of one the males to get neutered, he kept trying to go after the dogs in the clinic waiting room and I was told to keep him muzzled and in the car, long before covid. Poor boy didn't understand why. But inside the clinic were a few Pit Bulls sitting quietly with the owners. I think American Bulldogs can be more aggressive than Pit Bulls. And they are whole lot bigger than Pit Bulls so they can do more damage. Chance is in good hands to be trained so that he will not be animal aggressive. It can be done. I did it with Thor and he became a very good loving boy even though he was previously abused and deemed too aggressive at the shelter thus next to be put down. I'm a five foot tall woman and he was as tall as me on his hind legs but he never gave me any reason to fear him. American Bulldogs want to please their owners so fiercely and they love people so fiercely. They can live in harmony with other dogs. I've seen it with my Bulldogs. But many of the males require special handling. Evenso, they are such cute and goofy teddy bears just like Chance. Thank you, Luke for helping Chance overcome his genetics and his past. He is worth it.

He sure is worth it, appreciate you sharing this. We figured he was named after Chance in Homeward Bound. Chance was surrendered supposedly because he had Referred Aggression. Would bite the owner. An odd one given his breed traits as you say. That’s now gone, but it’s just the dog aggression that remains. Luke believes in him though. Thank you again

@@TheFarmForDogs Yes, American Bulldogs need and want strong loving Pack Leaders, like Luke. Unfortunately, in the U.S. there are many backyard breeders who make a business of breeding pure-bred Johnson, Scott and hybrid American Bulldogs because once they register the pups with the UKC or NKC they can charge thousands per pup. They are desirable because of their adorable big blocky square heads, underbites, wrinkly faces and are so cute and playful. But many end up euthanized at Shelters because the owners don't know how or don't put in the time to socialize and train them as puppies and then they become uncontrollable as adults.
I want to share that when my American Bulldog puppies were teething, they took down 2 young 6-7-foot-tall Queen Palm Trees. I saw them attack these trees and bring them down. I saw them chew big gaping holes in the drywalls in the garage. We did try to stop them, but they were persistent. I don't know how common that is, but I was very surprised to see these puppies work together with tenacity to destroy these trees and walls. It's almost like they are driven to take down bulls even as puppies because of their genes. After I got Thor, we had family and friends over and they brought over their big dogs and Thor ignored the females but kept trying to mount the males, not sexually and not fighting, but his way of telling the males he's alpha and it's his territory. But otherwise, they are very gentle with women and children almost instinctively wanting to protect them. I'm now left with a 12-year-old female American Bulldog, and she is so gentle, loving and protective of my pack of 3 other small female dogs whom I rescued because their owner died. I think the males may be harder to integrate into packs.
I was asked to rescue Thor as a young dog because he had been kept in an open kennel outside all the time and it turned out the gardener, an undocumented migrant, used to poke him with sticks, throw rocks at him, and taunt him. One time he let him out of the kennel wearing black pants and a black hoodie and crouched down on his hands and feet and began growing and play attacking him, and Thor bit him. The guy used to abuse Thor and then get down on his level and play attack him?? He asked to be bit because Thor didn't know it was play and maybe the guy wasn't playing and wanted to hurt Thor. The owner saw it and stopped the fight. But the migrant called the cops and Animal Control ordered Thor to be euthanized but the owner secretly arranged for me to adopt him.
When we got Thor, he was in desperate need of Vet care because he had severe infections in his ears from the pool, and lots of other medical issues from neglect and the elements of the semi-desert climate. Even when I was petting and rubbing his ears, he only growled but didn't bite me. The owner came and showed me all the tricks and commands Thor knew because he was a show dog and won many awards at Dog Shows. He gave me his ribbons and papers. Another Am Bull owner friend showed me how to be a strong pack leader for Thor and Thor was so obedient, gentle and submissive to me. The owner brought Thor's mate Bambi to me because she had bitten another dog because she was kept in the garage with a litter of almost weaned puppies, and she bit the neighbor dog who came into the garage because the door was open. Animal Control ordered her to be put down too! So, I adopted her too. I didn't know she would have another litter later. These dogs would surely have been killed because their owner didn't take better care of them. We found good homes for all 11, one pup died in childbirth. We kept 2 pups, and parents and pups lived together. It was joy watching the parents teach the pups. Bambi used to still groom daughter and Tumbalina used to try to nurse even months later as a big pup. But Mom, Dad and son Tigger got cancer years later and conventional treatment failed and had to be put to sleep. Daughter Tumbalina is thriving today. The owners of the other pups keep in touch and are all fine.
I wanted to share that bit of other experiences with this breed. One other thing about Thor was that being so large he used to jump over our 6-foot fence and sneak into the German Shepherd's yard next door to play and somehow these two dogs used to escape at night and cruise around the neighborhood. We got many calls Thor jumped over to play with the German Shepherd, and we actually saw them both at times running down the street back home early in the morning. We had to build the fence up a couple of more feet of wood and with doggie wire on top. So, Thor did have doggie friends. When we walked him there were 2 spaniel dogs the owner would let run loose who used to try to pick fights with Thor when we walked past their house and Thor would always ignore them and walk around them with a wide berth. Anyway, I think your instincts with Chance will guide you how to help Chance. The American Bulldog is a good dog, but the strong genetics to take down bulls is a bit harder to curb than other genes like herding sheep or retrieving ducks from the water, lol.

The description says it all. It takes a special person willing to take the necessary time to work with the Chances of the world. I have no idea why anyone would say these dogs are not worth that time and effort. They are. The real sadness is that there aren't enough Lukes in this world who know and understand their issues and can make all the difference in these dogs' lives. God bless the Evans family for their willingness to put in that time rather than just empty words and actions that change nothing for all the Chances out there. 💞🐾💞

Chance reminds me of Shadow when you first got her "Top Dog" if you will. They both probably had to fight to survive & knew that the humans determined if they lived or died. But look at Shadow now, she is so chill & a "sun bather" like my dog! Another dog I enjoy following is Maggie, love when she prances around like a gazelle. Thanks for explaining alittle more about their personalities, Luke. I often wonder if certain dogs have besties ❤

I love seeing miss violet and miss red play. Siblings always seem to play differently with each other than they do with non Siblings. My dog has 5 of the eight Siblings living close by and when any or all of them get together they play hard and if you didn't know them you'd swear they were really fighting because they are so vocal.

Similar to Freddo I suspect Uncle Luke is the first one to say no to Chance and not back down which has helped Chance immensely. I love Chance he is such a character and does have a soft affectionate face. Neveah is a happy go lucky dog and soooooo much energy. Her new forever home needs a very big back yard so she can just run. 🥰🥰

We can all learn so much from your training videos/insights. Thanks for clearing up about Nervia's (?) behaviour. Looking in from the outside, she has way more energy than the other dogs and yet he didn't seem to mind. I love Am-Staffs, having owned 2 in the past. I know what soft and lovable dogs they are, even if the world just sees muscle and size.

Neveah gets me chuckling. She is a real energizer bunny - the only one moving at faster than 10kmph all through Luke's dialogue. Chance is extremely patient waiting for Luke's further instruction and movement. Well done Chance - I am starting to see how more focused time and attention to these rescue dogs is necessary and needed to get them rehabilitated and trained, so they can get on to the next phase of finding their forever homes.

I couldn't help but laugh the entire video because with all the things that Luke is saying about Chance etc and being serious - Naveah just keeps flying through and headbutting her way through everyone to swoop in for a rub against chance or luke. it was honestly hysterical! she is like that fly that keeps buzzing your head.
