Well, nobody is perfekt and you thought us how to fix it if we are not able to understand the pattern, just make it pretty! Thank you soooo much for your work and effort. I am enjoying your videos so much. I already worked the seerose, the beaitiful pattern with the straps in between, the 70's poncho, one of the doylies, the fan doylie (try to turn it in a neckline for a west.) So thank you again for keepingn us on duty. 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🏵🌹 you are awsom.
I think the last part was meant to be 3 popcorns next to each other. So, a popcorn, 1 chain. Next stitch, a popcorn, 1 chain. Next stich, a popcorn, 1 chain.
Exactly this. A popcorn, ch1, popcorn, ch1, so on. It's ok Corinna! We all need a break from time to time! You are still adorable, bright, funny, and talented. You brightened my day, as usual.
That's how I took it. I've seen this motif or one like it that is lined with popcorn stitches. It was done by people who very well could have had the booklet of this pattern and yes the original pattern book. I'm old and my grandma and aunts and others would have seen this in first print.
Modern patterns with video tutorials had me forget why I was scared of crochet for so long. These Videos remind me. Is like a forbidden witchcraft to work off of these vintage written patterns 😂
Hello personally, I admire this brave, hardworking lady. I love these mystery videos. If I could afford for you to have a lovely holiday, I certainly would. You are very much, worth it. Thankyou
That part you can't figure out is 3 popcorns, one in each of the 3 dc's. That's 4 dc in the first dc, then turn it into a popcorn, ch 1, then do it again in the next 2 dc, for a total of 3 popcorns. Oh, and the motifs appear to be octagons, not squares? If I do this one, I will probably use similar colors to what you used, using Red Heart Soft yarn, white for the flowers, Leaf for the leaves, and either Watercolors or Plumy (both variegated) for the background. (because I'm a purple fiend)
I believe on row 9 that you are supposed to put a popcorn stitch in each dc making 3 popcorn stitches, very pretty I might try it. I think I would have used the lavender for the flower and the white for the background. I don't think that I would want the black background.
Bless your heart. I bet you read the comments and had a "hit yourself in the forehead and yell, I coulda had a V8"!🤣 Or a popcorn with a chain between 3 times in those 3 stitches. Oh, I was trying so hard to help you! I was talking to my phone, apparently loud, because my husband asked what was wrong. 🤣 I told him my mystery pattern hero, Corinna, was struggling with some directions in the pattern. He asked if you heard me!🤣 No, she didn't but I wanted to help her so badly! Maybe, since all of us are in agreement, you could do a part 2 and redo the row we missed and this one but only if it makes you feel better. Don't do it if it causes frustration. And, take a break! We will be okay! I would rather miss you for a few days than for this to cause you to burn out or not enjoy doing this anymore! We love you! We're not going anywhere! ♥️🧶😘
It's not disappointing at all! This is the fun of mystery patterns. If it was perfect every time, I think the idea might be less charming. I think it's very cool that you did your best and still ended up with something pretty. At the same time you're teaching people to riff/improvise on the fly if they cant fully understand a pattern or if a pattern is incorrect or unclear, which helps make things less scary for less experienced people. Give yourself a much needed recharge, but don't sweat the small stuff! You're creating great content for everyone. And not just these mystery patterns. Thank you!
It just happens. Ive been crocheting for over 50 years now and, it still happens to me. Just the way it is. Dont sweat ut ,Corinna! Its all good. I love your channel. Pkease keep up the good work. Sincerely, Linda the Happy Hooker😊✌️
It looks alot like a square with a flower in the center. My mother made a queen size bedspread with it in cotton yarn when she was pregnant with me in 1961
I love watching you figure these out. Often it would be hard for anyone to just whip through, yet, you do! I find that if i crochet one day skip the next, i don't have problem with burnouts. When i need something quick and stay on it for long, i start stressing and then make mistakes. You've made a beautiful design even if you couldn't get the pattern and that encourages me to go back to some paterns i gave up on, to go back and do my own thing. Thank you for sharing these beautiful patterns!
I am loving your channel, since watching not only are you amazing but I can now read crochet patterns, a lot of these patterns are ones my grandma made especially the doilies ❤️❤️❤️
I'm new to crochet and reading patterns, and I just wanted you to know that the fact that you struggle to make sense of them makes me feel so much better about my own struggles. Thank you for being willing to share your imperfections 🥰
Yes, Corinna, you deserve a break! You have done an amazing job producing content on this channel. Get out and have some fun, or stay home and put your feet up and relax, before the summer is over ❤
Report for row 9: You should slip into the centre sc before doing the trebles. It is three 4-dc popcorn stitches with ch1 in between each. I'll also note that the repeat pattern is a bit off because it says to end with the treble shell, but it actually just joins with the starting treble shell. The chains in the shells form the corners, and you get a square in the end with two sets of popcorn stitches between the corners. I did mine in worsted weight yarn because that's what I had, so I might actually make a full blanket with it since I'll need far fewer motifs!
You are making a square with 3 4dc popcorn stitches per side with a ch1 between each popcorn for a total of 16 popcorn stitches and (it looks like) 16 stitches
On row 9 you should have a total of 3 popcorn stitches in a row, not just one. So you are making a popcorn in one stitch but over the next 3 stitches. 🥰. I’ve seen this before. You did wonderfully!
Hi Corinna- I’m rewatching the mystery series. Lol I’ve seen them all but I so enjoy this series. I hope we get more mystery patterns from you in the future. I know you’ve crocheted so much lately. I’m not trying to push you. 😊
I would throw in the towel too. it is pretty. Sometimes the instructions just don’t compute in our brain. There is nothing that was disappointing to me. I like your honesty. Keep the mysteries coming.
Corinna you are amazing! You made something so beautiful even though you missed a row! When I got to the end of this video and saw the finished motif with the white edging in the crab stitch I immediately thought, "How wonderful this lady is and so smart and talented! " I can see that finished into a wooden embroidery hoop with the tightening screw at the bottom and a pretty little green or lavender ribbon tied in a bow around the screw, a la 1980's "country-esque" style of decorating, and hanging on a bedroom or bathroom wall. I love your channel and what you create! You help me "Get my Hook On!" so I keep crocheting on my largest project to date: a 60" x 60" afghan for my sister :)
Please don't apologise, no need to.. I absolutely love your channel Corinna. I'm in awe of all your talent. I very much enjoy watching you with these vintage patterns! I could never read and understand these patterns! ❤
Boy this is a doozy if it stumped you. I imagine it could be a beautiful afghan. My mother in law was the most prolific crocheter “if that’s even a word”. She made many afghans like this. Love your channel, not disappointed at all.
Please don't apologise, it's fun to engage and give it your best shot and no one could ask for more than that. It's impossible to get it right every time, all you can do is your best, which you obviously do and I thank you for that. Love your channel x Best Wishes.
I like your version! It turned out very pretty! I can relate. I have had those problems with patterns and, usually, I end up finding a different pattern. I like that you show the frustrations and mistakes because it happens to all of us and sometimes we need a reminder that it happens to everybody!
way to power through! i think you're right about that being a corner & then the popcorns are supposed to shore up the sides to you can turn that circle into a square. thanks for sharing your frustration & triumphs, it's nice to know we all have 'em. 😻😻😻😻😻 5/5
Thank you. Popcorn stitches are the bane of my crocheting existence, I have never really understood them. Finally, you explained them in a way that now I "get" them.
My curiosity got me at the 12:57( time) SDC I hadn't heard of before. Looked it up. It says it's a Standing double crochet. Has anyone ever seen that before? I love to learn of new stitches and patterns. It was a few days ago that I found you here @justvintagecrochet This has been so much fun. I may try to do some patterns that were handed down to me. Thank You for your work.
You did so well 💗 it looks so pretty i am sure you would've got it . Don't be too hard on yourself. I agree with previous comments it was a popcorn in each off the double crochet stitch with a chain between but it's easier said when you are looking from the outside. I still love it either way ❤
❤ I cannot tell you how utterly satisfying and heartening it is to see someone else on this earth struggle with a pattern. I struggle with well written patterns so TH-cam has been a literal godsend. I think this is absolutely beautiful 😍 and yes, I'll take a pass on this one 😂
I did a pattern like that once, and that's when I learned not to look ahead, or think ahead, and just do exactly what it says, even if it doesn't make sense to me. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, lol. Sorry you got all frustrated with it
Still looks pretty, I might try it out at some point, thanks for sharing and be kind to yourself ! In France we only go 7 weeks before we take a break, do as we do 😉
I’m not disappointed with what you have done, I am still amazed at how far you can get with these patterns without any idea what you’re making!! I love the way yours turned out it’s very pretty.
1 your videos are great! I stream a little and always give you shoutouts for the things ive learned here or stitch repeats ive borrowed for other projects and my peeps love u too! 2 i sit crocheting whatever im doing and watch you and I love hearing ur little dog cliperting around in the bg cuz my doggo is doing the same thing! She always perks her ears up and looks happy when she hears yours woofing or playing its so wholesome 😊 You are definitely my favourite crochet youtuber ❤
I'm Always thankful for the time you take to inspire the art of crochet. The pattern was difficult, but it looks beautiful. I found a photo of the Afghan on Etsy, it was not easy to see the stitches you were trying to do. Thank you for all you do to make my day a happy one❤
Love what you do...please - no apologies!!! You made me feel like there is someone else in this crochet world that doesn't get it right the first time. I thought you did really great and it looks nice! Keep it up, Gal!!! Loving your fun channel!!!
hiya corinne! disappointed? not me! nice color choice for it. would look nice on a hat/coat or as a fascinator before going round. oh, on the corner of an afghan! maybe if you continue in the round you could make a shoulder bag or tote. your patience is much longer than mine. xoxo
You made such great work of this tough mystery! This would be cute as just a decoration or even as a fascinator (just attach a barrette or Bobby pin!).
You know, the way you finished this piece could lso lend itself to (almost) a hexagonal square afghan Woudn't that be pretty And I like how you finished it. Kudos!
I Sent Your Channel to My Daughter. She texted me last Year Apologizing That When I kept asking Her to Crochet with me in Her Youth, She Didn't want to Even Try, Now She's Asking Me from Miles Away, to Teach Her😂 (I'm in New Mexico, She's in Florida) Now She's going on 45 and I would do Anything to be Sitting with Her Crocheting 🥰 Watching and Listening to You, We Would have a Blast. You Have Been a Blessing to Me, and I Know She Will be Able to Pick this Craft Up Quickly With Your Talent, Patience, and Such a Gr8 Sense of Humor and Teaching Skills Love and Prayers to You Corrina, and Yah Bless You, and All Whom You 💕 Love❤
It is so beautiful. At least you put it out there for people to try. If they do it the written way, your way, or what they create from this on their own, it's a win!! You did NOT disappoint!! Take a break and enjoy the end of the summer!! -Love, from one of your newest subscribers.
She made me the coat in the early 1970's, but she had made tons of stuff with this pattern back in the 1940's for my mother and her sisters when they were around 10 years old. Hope this helps you. Sh always made this in a square and she had blankets made from this pattern. Don't feel bad about making mistakes, because the mistakes we make, make us better in the end.
Interesting piece of info about the single crochet in UK terminology. I have a very old UK crochet and knitting book (don’t know how old, but it was made by a yarn company and had a price of 1 penny), and where it lists the stitches and how to do them, it says “single crochet (also known as slip stitch)”. So in the UK the missing “single crochet” is just the slip stitch.
It’s a lovely motif Corinna, no worries as I won’t be making the Afghan. Yikes those mid century patterns, even from the 70s and 80s are a doozy for me to interpret so all my old books are in a box somewhere……waiting for me……someday ❣️
I like yours better!! Would make a cute baby blanket or simply some casters for a hot drink on a table. I don't do a lot of crocheting anymore (at nearly 80), but love watching all your videos. I inherited a lot of very old patterns from my grandmother, so I understand how difficult some can be to follow.
It turned out really beautiful despite all the confusion! I love the crab stitch border in white. Such a lovely finish. Now I feel like trying this just to see if anything clicks. If I figure it out, I'll come back and report!
Thank you for doing this one, I loved what you did enough to go searching for the pattern and I'm going to do this one myself - but as a handful of squares for the side of a bag.
I understand the pattern like that: The popcorn is made of 4 dc and there should be 3 of the 4DCpopcorns with a chain 1 in between. It's a beautiful pattern and I like your colour combination , thank you Corinna for sharing ! Take care of yourself and relax :)🍀🍀🍀🍀🌻🌻🌻🌻
I feel like they wanted a 4 dc popcorn, ch 1 in the top of each of the three double crochets. Would've been nice if they'd written it that way. Of course, a modern version of this probably WOULD have been written more clearly. This is cute. I may have to pull out some scraps and give it a shot.
Corrine your amazing ,I wouldn't know where to start! love watching you create these wonderful patterns and have expanded my crochet stitch journey having been inspired by your patience and determination to understand these vintage patterns.
You have to make 4 popcorn Stitch, one befor the 3 dc it will make 4❤❤❤ so you make a chain between the popcorn stitches, it's a side❤ hope it makes sense❤❤❤
Never disappointed! I am always excited when I see you have posted a new video and truly enjoy watching and listening to you work your way through a pattern.
I have finally figured out why I like watching these videos, aside from the mystery and the vintage designs......the moments when you get confused by the instructions sounds EXACTLY what I sound like when I'm trying to read a new pattern! As an advanced beginner (intermediate?), I feel very vindicated knowing someone with your skill level also gets confused or stuck reading patterns. So the next time I get stuck on a pattern and that voice in my head begins to question my intelligence and why I took up crochet in the first place, the other voice in my head is going to remind me of you...."well, if it happens to a very skilled professional....and she posted it on TH-cam!.....then it's not the end of the world!" Thank you. I truly appreciate your efforts and dedication.
Love your color choices and how you created your own fix around not understanding the pattern. Very pretty! I use post it notes to show me where I am in pattern instructions and to note with tic marks what rows I've finished - so I don't skip any (another of my dummy proofing thingies). I never remember to click my row counter! Was sitting here this morning trying to send you the thought that the pattern was saying to do a popcorn, ch 1 in @ of the three dc's. Very enjoyable and clear tutorial, again! You rock! Love your mystery patterns! (TH-cam is freezing up on me today, so I couldn't leave a comment until i found your video again!)
@@justvintagecrochet I'd also wanted to say that I routinely give myself a day off from crochet when I start making lots of mistakes, can't figure out pattern instructions or just plain get tired of crocheting! Feels good & I go back refreshed! I know that in addition to being very passionate about crochet, you've also made a career out of it. Every job I ever worked gave me days off. The real trick is to go do something frivolous & fun on those days off! 😘
Must admit that I’ve only just found your channel and I’m really enjoying it. I was in stitches…no pun intended…when you didn’t read the amount of wool correctly, it stated 10 one and a quarter ounces not balls or skeins 😅must admit I had a heads up on you…I was born the year of the pattern and when I first started knitting (on my mothers knee) we bought wool by the ounce! Looking forward to binge watching your videos. Bye from Liverpool England 💁🏼♀️
I made a lot of mistakes in this one and missed row 4, I think I need a break lol, been crocheting nonstop for about 7 months now.
Wow! You definitely deserve a break!! I LOVE these videos and I'll happily wait patiently until you're ready to get back at it!!
Well, nobody is perfekt and you thought us how to fix it if we are not able to understand the pattern, just make it pretty! Thank you soooo much for your work and effort. I am enjoying your videos so much. I already worked the seerose, the beaitiful pattern with the straps in between, the 70's poncho, one of the doylies, the fan doylie (try to turn it in a neckline for a west.)
So thank you again for keepingn us on duty. 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🏵🌹 you are awsom.
Not mistakes ... Customizations!😂❤
You are human lol I love watching you .. thread is not for me am a yarn girl 😂😂 from 2 ply to 4 nothing bigger 😂😂
I totally feel you! Just come back to it another day. Maybe after your Christmas break.❤
I think the last part was meant to be 3 popcorns next to each other. So, a popcorn, 1 chain. Next stitch, a popcorn, 1 chain. Next stich, a popcorn, 1 chain.

Yep, that's exactly what I was saying to myself as she was reading it. Don't put a ch1 in between each dc of the popcorn st., do the popcorn then ch1.
Modern patterns with video tutorials had me forget why I was scared of crochet for so long.
These Videos remind me. Is like a forbidden witchcraft to work off of these vintage written patterns 😂
If anyone complains, they are just mean. New patterns are hard enough, but without a photograph and on camera is hugely hard. Love your content.
Thank you 🥰
Not disappointed at all! I cook a lot and I skip over whole sections of a recipe and wonder what went wrong. Sigh. We're all just human 😂😅😊❤
I do the same 😂
Hello personally, I admire this brave, hardworking lady. I love these mystery videos. If I could afford for you to have a lovely holiday, I certainly would. You are very much, worth it. Thankyou
SD is what my grandmother said is a short double, which is indeed a half double. She's the one who taught me how to crochet.
I agree with the row 9 comments.
I agree that's what the pattern says " a 4dc popcorn st , 1ch in each of the next 3dc". That's 3 popcorn sts.😊
That was my interpretation, too. Those instructions really were ambiguous.
Yes! On the 3 popcorns and on using white for the background.
I told him my mystery pattern hero, Corinna, was struggling with some directions in the pattern.

It looks alot like a square with a flower in the center. My mother made a queen size bedspread with it in cotton yarn when she was pregnant with me in 1961
You need to work a popcorn stitch in the first double. Chain 1. Popcorn in next double. Chain 1 popcorn in 3rd double chain then sc in first school.
this is how I interpretted it as well - 3 popcorn stitches separated by a ch1!
That is how i interpreted also
I also understood it this way🫶
You skipped the instruction for the 4th round.
Also for round nine, popcorn st in each dc with a ch 1 between each popcorn stitch.
I love watching you figure these out. Often it would be hard for anyone to just whip through, yet, you do! I find that if i crochet one day skip the next, i don't have problem with burnouts. with my dyslexia I didn't even get to the third row, BUT I did a small moffit that I like, so thank you

Could you post a picture of your finished work?
@@jackiespencer4694 hmm, I'm not sure where. I don't think TH-cam comments let you do that.
You are making a square with 3 4dc popcorn stitches per side with a ch1 between each popcorn for a total of 16 popcorn stitches and (it looks like) 16 stitches
It’s a square with the trebles serving as the corners…
On row 9 you should have a total of 3 popcorn stitches in a row, not just one. So you are making a popcorn in one stitch but over the next 3 stitches. 🥰. I’ve seen this before. You did wonderfully!

You got most of it! And the hardest part. You can fill it to be a square in any old way, but the flowers are so cute!

Not me yelling ‘it’s a popcorn in each of 3 stitches!’ 😂 You made such a good effort and no need to apologize. ❤

2 i sit crocheting whatever im doing and watch you and I love hearing ur little dog cliperting around in the bg cuz my doggo is doing the same thing! She always perks her ears up and looks happy when she hears yours woofing or playing its so wholesome 😊
You are definitely my favourite crochet youtuber ❤
I'm Always thankful for the time you take to inspire the art of crochet. The pattern was difficult, but it looks beautiful.
I found a photo of the Afghan on Etsy, it was not easy to see the stitches you were trying to do. Thank you for all you do to make my day a happy one❤
Love what you do...please - no apologies!!! You made me feel like there is someone else in this crochet world that doesn't get it right the first time. I thought you did really great and it looks nice! Keep it up, Gal!!! Loving your fun channel!!!
Yay, a mystery pattern! 😊 🍿
hiya corinne! disappointed? not me! nice color choice for it. would look nice on a hat/coat or as a fascinator before going round. oh, on the corner of an afghan! maybe if you continue in the round you could make a shoulder bag or tote. your patience is much longer than mine. xoxo
I love your finished "thang" Corinna! You rock! 💘
Thanks for trying your best. Sometimes we just have to walk away & try again later.
You Have Been a Blessing to Me, and I Know She Will be Able to Pick this Craft Up Quickly With Your Talent, Patience, and Such a Gr8 Sense of Humor and Teaching Skills
Love and Prayers to You Corrina, and Yah Bless You, and All Whom You 💕 Love❤
I'm 67 and You Taught Me a New Stitch, I just Love 🥰Your Crab Stitch, and Ya' Don't havta' Apologize, You Are inspiring ‼️
To be honest I love your design. The variegated leaves are awesome. Crab stitch pops
It is so beautiful. At least you put it out there for people to try. If they do it the written way, your way, or what they create from this on their own, it's a win!! You did NOT disappoint!! Take a break and enjoy the end of the summer!! -Love, from one of your newest subscribers.
I do like that crab single crochet. Thanks
Yesss!!! My grandmother made me a coat/sweater with this!! But it was square.
I didn't know I would enjoy investigative work on a vintage crochet pattern until today
For all you do and inspire, you deserve a brake. I'm sure we'll all be right here when you come back. I know I have alot of catching up to do.😅
It’s a lovely motif Corinna, no worries as I won’t be making the Afghan. Yikes those mid century patterns, even from the 70s and 80s are a doozy for me to interpret so all my old books are in a box somewhere……waiting for me……someday ❣️
What a pretty thing that turned out to be..
“sdc” means standing double crochet. OR short double crochet. I think you chose correctly with a 1/2 double crochet.
It turned out really beautiful despite all the confusion! I love the crab stitch border in white. Such a lovely finish. Now I feel like trying this just to see if anything clicks. If I figure it out, I'll come back and report!
wow! That was a brain buster!!!🤯The result you made is so pretty!!!!
It came out very pretty !❤
I think it's really cute. Looks like a water lily, and it could exist on its own as a little doily or the like
The short double crochet (sdc) is another name for the half double crochet. you are correct.
Thank you for doing this one, I loved what you did enough to go searching for the pattern and I'm going to do this one myself - but as a handful of squares for the side of a bag.
I think row 9 is wanting multiple popcorn stitches with a ch 1 between, so 4dc popcorn, ch1 & do that for 3 popcorn stitches.
What does Bob Ross say? There are no mistakes only happy accidents. I love the way this turned out. You are so very talented.
Yours is very pretty on its own.
I think the sdc may have been a standing double crochet..
I’ve been wanting to make a flower Afghan, and I think this pattern would be great! Thanks!!!
Great series, love these , I am sure by now someone also comments , SDC always meant Standing Double Crochet for me
Never disappointed! I am always excited when I see you have posted a new video and truly enjoy watching and listening to you work your way through a pattern.
Take a nice break. 😢. We will be here!😊
I have finally figured out why I like watching these videos, aside from the mystery and the vintage designs......the moments when you get confused by the instructions sounds EXACTLY what I sound like when I'm trying to read a new pattern!
P.S. I think row 9 is supposed to be 3 popcorn stitches (with ch 1 in between each popcorn) as others have described.
It is still beautiful.
It came outso pretty! I love the spring colors you chose for the little motif, Maybe you can use it s an accent in the spring. Job well done.
Thank you! 😊
It looks very pretty ❤
Thank you so much , Rosemary 🤗
Im surprised that you figure any of them out. 😊. Great job!
I got it! On row nine you are to make one popcorn in each dc crochet stitch then chain one between each popcorn.
Thank you. I sometimes wonder if these patterns caused insanity ha ha. You truly deserve some time off. Thank you for all you do. X
