I'm 80 years old. And I learned to crochet from many of these old books that were sometimes unclear and sometimes just plain wrong. The frustration of a 7 year old was real!!! And I found an old pattern on the internet the other day for a vintage edwardian purse - and there are the mistakes in the pattern again!! ARGHHHHH! I think that the way these came about is that people sent in patterns to publishers to be published in a book and they were never checked. But I also believe that the Victorian and Edwardian ladies were mathematics wizards if they got these patterns to work out!! You do well!
I think you should write a book of all the little tips and tricks you have learned over the years. You could add the little stories from your life that your viewers love so much. You could call it " In My Opinion." I'd buy it. I'd proofread it for free.
This is how you know I watch too many of your videos lol this is the same pattern you made in a video on 10/20/23, but the yarn is beautiful on this one
I remember it too, I don't think it's the SAME pattern, but the same motif, which makes sense for the time period, lots of different publications putting out their own version of the same motif
Beautiful 😍 Corinna, I just want to thank you for everything you do for us!! You are my comfort channel and about 4 months ago inspired me to pick up crocheting again. As dramatic as it may sound, life has been tough and you have given me hope to keep on truckin! Thank you ❤
So glad to have the instructions on beginning chains for clusters. I agree with you that dropping one chain makes the cluster look much neater. Thanks for that tip.
I think the way you did the center popcorn stitches gave the flower more definition than if you did them the same as in the body of the square. Beautiful ❤️
I have this pattern in a compilation book published in 1946. The picture is the same. I have been using this book since I found it library back in the 70’s. I inherited a copy in the 90’s. I have worked just about all of the doilies and several of the tablecloths and a good many of items in the book. I wanted to make this bedspread, but didn’t liked the size options or the fringe. But it will perfect as a throw for my sofa.
Ok, this is just insane. So last week I purchased a 2 pamphlet bundle on Etsy. One pamphlet was printed in 1967, the other? Yup 1941. It's Bedspread book #158. On page 21 is "Old Concord". It looks like this mystery crochet. So I went to Corinna's Etsy shop and purchased "Popcorn and Cluster" from this video. Both printed in Bedspread books in 1941. They are identical! Page layouts are different but the patterns and pictures are exactly the same! Wow it's blowing my mind. I ordered this pamphlet before the video release. Now I have to make this. 😂🧡😁
You should totally finish that bedspread, if you have enough yarn to do it - that colour shift is really stunning, it looks perfect for the pattern you used it for!
I understand the pain you get from using small crochet hooks. I wonder if you couldn't use something that quilters. Quilters put their nondominated hand under the quilt and use a finger to make sure the needle comes through the quilt to make the quilt stitch. They now have a little stick on pad to put on your finger so the needle doesn't scratch your finger. Or perhaps using a leather thimble on your left finger would work also. I so enjoy watching your mystery channel. I have learned so much from you about reading patterns and doing stiches.
I think my great grandmother made a blanket with a pattern similar to this one, it's in storage so I don't have access to right at the moment. This video brought all the feels of remembering my great grandmother's farm home in West Virginia. Also just so you know, Hobby Lobby still carries the Lion Brand String Ballad, and I just checked on Amazon and they still have it too! I bought some a while ago so that I could make the rose pattern from one of your "Flippin' Pickin'" patterns. No need to panic, it is still available! 😉🙃😊🙃😊❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Your nails are really, really beautiful, Corinna. And yes, that yarn is so wonderful. The color changes are awesome. That vintage pattern made as a Bed Spread will look incredibly. Evan as a pillowcase it will be very beautiful.
Hi from Texas just watched your video I love your tutorial and vintage work I enjoy all your videos I always watch them great work I appreciate you helping us with your great ideas love them 💕keep up your great ideas 👍👍👍and beautiful 😍 work you make 👍👍👍🙏💕💕💕💕💕
That was pretty cool. Incidentally, when I make initial clusters, I need to use the full chain count. This is because when I first learned to crochet (back before electricity was a thing), my initial attempts at the chain stitch were always too tight. These days, my tension has relaxed for the most part, except when there is a beginning cluster to be made. But that's just me, we're all different, and so long as it looks good when we're done, who's to say who's right? Looking forward to your next video, as always!
@@EB-ec7vsdid you order it. I order some, it has arrived, the label is the same as hers but mine is much more fine. My work would turn out much smaller and not what I want. I will ask her about it and try to add a photo of my yarn.
Gosh I'm dense only just twigged the JVC is for just vintage crochet 😳 Anyhow lovely pattern and yes a big shame that lovely yarns shade is no longer available maybe they will bring it back through popular demand. Thank you for another great video ❤
Isn't this like another one You did back awhile ago ?? It was a bedspread square I think ?? Maybe I am wrong but it was similar somewhat , but it is so pretty !! Thank You for another great video 📷 !! ❤ It !!
I just ordered a bunch of Mandala String in Soul from Michaels - enough to get free shipping 😅 - because I love watching you work with it! I'm excited to get my hands on it 💖
It may be available on the UK on certain sites, but directly from Lion Brand's website it is around £5.50. I don't know how it compares with US prices, but I am envious of your brands and not having to pay huge amounts😊
I went to the LB website & it's still available! I can't afford it, but saved it! Super pretty pattern. Thanks to you & Thor (aka Justin!) for choosing this gorgeous example for us! Threadhead hugs!
I was used to do,a popcorn without chain one, but saw you doing it and I changed it, becouse I thoughtI did wrong...lol Imreally like to listen when I am chrochtin (when the pattern is easy...otherwise I end up confused😁)
The Mandela String Yarn is half off at Joann's website. $3.49. If you buy 10 or more the price goes down to $3.32. There is also a $2.99 shipping on orders of $20 or more.
Oh I love this! Mandala String hasn't been discontinued, BTW..it's available on their website and you can find it at several different stores. It's a new yarn. :)
That yarn is gorgeous! Also feel like youve done another partern from the 40's tgatwvas super similar to this, i dont mean that to be critical at all, i just think its interesting and was wondering how man super similar patterns there were floating around out yhere in the 1949's 🤣 like i inagie vthatwvas just a relaly popular motif and a ton of different books and magazines there were publishing their own versions of the same motif. Beautiful work as always! P.s. there is nothing wrong with your logo, idk why people feel entitled to give opinions on things like that, you keep doing you girly 🖤🖖
I'm barely in to the video and you've already answered a question I have had about the chain one on the popcorn stitch. I've always wondered if the chain one counted or if it was to lock it in. Thanks for that!
No she decided to bring the plastic one back because people requested it back, and she also found it easier to shake up and grab out of it. I think it was mentioned either 2 or 3 mystery patterns ago.
Yes, I agree. I commented it was in the book I learned to crochet from in the 60's. I fell in love with popcorn. I do like it with larger yarn; not so overwhelming putting pieces together.
Not first, but top 3, so that is cool. I don't often do a chain 1 to close a popcorn stitch unless the pattern is calling for a chain 1 skip a space, if I am just working into the next stitch, I won't chain
Terrific pattern, though the actual blanket looks rather old fashioned -like those chenille ones of my childhood! Maybe jazzed up with different colours…
Is that shade of Mandala String called Ballad? I found it on the Lion Brand site and my Hobby Lobby still sells it which means they all should since all stores carry the same inventory.
