    Paul McCartney is terrifying. More so than any other artist to me. He can literally do it all - singing like no one else, writing, playing, performing - not just these things in their constituent parts, but all at once. I'm in perpetual awe...
    Edit: even little things like holding the end of a vocal line steady while doing a very dancey piano flourish takes a heck of a lot of skill, in my experience.

    Very enjoyable. You really get an intimate sense of Paul McCartney, songwriter. These songs sound like 1920s-'30s Broadway. It's amazing that much of this was composed as a young teen. I like all of it but, for me, the standout here is "All of You." He should have recorded it for one of his albums. Someone asked about the chords for that song much further below. I answered there, but I'll also list them here for anyone who's interested in playing it. Verse: Cm7, F7, Cm7, F7, Gm, Am7b5 (A-C-Eb-G), D7, Gm, Cm, Cm7, F7sus4 (F-Bb-C-Eb), F7. Chorus: Bb, Bbaug (Bb-D-Gb), Gm, Bb7, Eb, Cm7, F7sus4, F7.

    He’s a lefty and the piano his left (bass) hand is amazingly good. McCartney here is fantastic and shows the influences in his life of medleys /songs and showtunes….
    From his album red rose speedway and other Beatle tunes he clearly shows us in this video how he noodles around musically on the piano and finds those incredible melodic original songs ….or are they original …..??? Yes indeed . Hen he picks up a guitar or a bass somehow he does the same.

    Paul is a master of the hook and would have been a successful songwriter without the Beatles. He loves to write and play and that joy is a key ingredient in his songs. I don't like comparing him to John Lennon but often feel compelled to come to Paul's defence when people, including Lennon for that matter, understate Paul's contribution to the Beatles. I tell people to quickly jot down their ten favourite Beatles' songs then count how many were written by McCartney.

    • @andyeastcoast
      @andyeastcoast 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love The Beatles as a group and as 4 super talented individuals. These days, a lot of people want to give Paul ALL the credit. John and George were pretty good too. Ticket To Ride, Come Together, Help!, In My Life, Norwegian Wood, A Hard Day's Night, Strawberry Fields Forever, Here Comes the Sun, Something, and While My guitar Gently Weeps is a pretty good top 10 non Paul list.

    • @troybridgeman
      @troybridgeman 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@andyeastcoast no challenging you there - some of the best songs ever written. However, my experience has been the opposite. The majority of people I talk to say Lennon is their favourite but when I ask them to quickly list their 10 favourite Beatle's tunes the majority are McCartney tunes. eg Yesterday, Michele, Here There and Everywhere, Eleanor Rigby, Penny Lane, Blackbird, Hey Jude, Let it Be etc. Ringo Starr recently told Howard Stern that after the death of Brian Epstein and their decision to stop touring, McCartney was the driving force who kept dragging them into the studio. His work ethic played a big part in the growing conflict between the lads but without him we might not have had albums such as The White Album, Let it Be and Abbey Road to select our favourite Beatle's songs from. He rarely gets credit for that.

    • @dabreu
      @dabreu 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andyeastcoast Sure. And I have not a crystal ball, but though of course Paul could have been a songwriter without the Beatles he would have never been so famous. Most of his songs received important help from John and also from George.

    I remember Paul saying in an interview that he wrote Let's Love with Sinatra in mind and sent a demo of it to Sinatra's agent who never got back to him. I would love to have have heard Sinatra's take on this song which I believe would have fitted his style.

    • @sharpcheddar7305

      Suicide appears on McCartney as a little splice at the end of "Hot as Sun/Glasses" and Peggy Lee did a version of "Let's Love". But at least we got to be lucky enough to see all four!

    • @thesilvershining
      @thesilvershining ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We now have three of the four!!! :)
      • “Suicide” has a demo/outtake version on the “McCartney” archive collection
      • “Let’s Love” is on Wings “Venus and Mars” archive collection & sounds FANTASTIC ♥️
      • “I’ll Give You a Ring” is the b-side of “Take it Away” and is also on the “Tug of War” archive collection
      I so wish “All of You” was recorded by him or even other artists, it’s so beautiful 😭♥️

    • @SirKevinH
      @SirKevinH 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'll Give You A Ring is on a 45 b side of either Take It Away or Ebony and Ivory. I have both but can't remember which one. The other b side was Ode To A Koala Bear. They were never going to be hits like a lot of the Beatles b sides but nice tunes nevertheless

      Yep. This was after Band on The Run released. It was for a TV special called One Hand Clapping. It was a recording session to break in the new members of Wings:Jimmy McCulloch and Geoff Briton(He left after a few months. I heard he was a bit of an ass. He was replaced by Joe English really soon after).

    The Beatles is still my favourite band. But Paul & Wings were & still my favourite in the 70s..

      Untrue. And I never read he said it is rubbish either. He uses to say they were grannys songs. It doesn't mean rubbish. And he wrote songs similar too. "Good Night".

    Let's Love is on the bonus disc of Venus and Mars. It's recorded properly in the studio and sounds a lot better than some of the songs he released before he put it on a bonus disc. He could write these great songs at the piano while a Beatle and as a solo artist.
