      If you really enjoy Tom's music 🎶 he can still belt them out in his 80s...
      Go on TH-cam and do a search for Tom Jones as a judge on The Voice...
      He does it's a man's world duet with Jennifer Hudson that's out of this world...
      There are multiple episodes where Tom sings that are all enjoyable especially with him being in his eighties...
      There's also an episode where he does a song with a contestant she's a really good singer and they did I think the song cry to me from dirty dancing and they were both really good on that❤

    Tom Jones is a Welsh singer who has one of the smoothest powerful voices around. And he was a showman too, in fact he was a big heart-throb with the ladies. He has so many hits such as "It's Not Unusual", "Delilah", "What's New Pussycat?", "Green, Green Grass of Home", "She's a Lady". He covers a lot of genres. He is still performing & is a coach on "The Voice" UK version. He also had a variety show from 69 - 71 & had some of the biggest music stars at the time.

  • @Sometimes-even-lyrical
    @Sometimes-even-lyrical ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Thanks, Shon, for checking out Tom. He is a stellar performer in every sense. He will be 83 years old in June, and still has that rich and powerful voice. Tom's now in his sixth decade of his professional career that has spanned all kinds of genres, and many hit recordings (in 2021 his most recent album rocketed to No.1 on the UK album charts, and one of its songs made the Billboard 100 here in the U.S.), and he is still touring and wowing crowds worldwide!
    Since you are appreciating an old-school vibe, you might like to react to his moves and vocal performance in the song "Whatcha Gonna Do When Your Baby Leaves You" that was done in a production number featuring him on The Ed Sullivan Show back in the day. Though the dancers around him were choreographed, his moves are all his own.
    I also think you'd like a later performance he had with the legendary Van Morrison, doing Van's song "Carrying A Torch." It was a collab done when Tom was 50, Tom on vocals with a beautiful backing singer and Van with others on instruments. Too, there is Tom's rocking duet with another legend, his Aussie friend John Farnham, with a cover of AC/DC's "It's A Long Way To The Top [If You Want To Rock And Roll]." Two powerhouses!
    There are many videos covering more recent impromptu performances by Tom on The Voice UK, where he is a judge and coach. You should check out one where he does "Cry To Me" on the show, or one of the compilation videos that feature a selection of some of his impromptu performances, or songs with contestants on his team or in numbers performed with the other judges.
    Tom had a TV show called This Is Tom Jones. During the show's three-year run from 1969 through 1971, there were fantastic solos from Tom, as well as duets with legendary artists and bands... guests who included the likes of Ray Charles, Janis Joplin, Stevie Wonder, Jerry Lee Lewis, CSN&Y, Little Richard, and so many more). One of my very favorite performances of his from that popular TV show was his "I Who Have Nothing," from 1970. That one should definitely be on every reactor's list of performances to cover if they are going to react to some of Tom's work. As I said, this is one of my faves, but then I have favorite singles and favorite live performances of his from every age in his career. He was and STILL is that good.
    In an interesting side note, Tom, from earliest childhood, always loved music, moving/dancing, singing, and performing. As a preteen, he came down with tuberculosis, and spent two years bedridden from 12 to 14, isolated in his family home to recover, not allowed to go out at all. No going to school or church. No going out to play with the other neighborhood kids who had been his classmates and friends, or see anyone else in his room except his mom who lovingly cared for him, his dad who went out each day to work in the Welsh coal mines, plus the doctor who made regular house calls. Tom was not allowed to sing or even speak for two years as warned so that he'd get maximum rest and had to stay in quarantine until the infection was judged conquered. He and his parents were told he must never go to work in the mines as his dad had done and many youth did, because Tom's lungs wouldn't be able take it. It was a blessing that he recovered, and, beyond that, simply a miracle that he went on to a career characterized by such amazing vocal abilities and lung power after having had TB!
    Tom has made an effort to stay relevant as music evolved. He's been fearless, exploring various opportunities to do different styles of song and work with many different people. You can tell from his many collaborations that he truly enjoys working with other artists and groups (in clear respect and appreciation of their talent... all for making great music and never as a competition for the spotlight). As a consummate professional, he always gives 100% to those with whom he works, and to his audiences. His fans adore him, and are so grateful he is still with us and sharing his God-given talent with joy and undimmed quality!

    There was so much music talent in the 60s, 70s and 80s it was unbelievable. The bar was so high in those decades. Every week a new great new talent would be discovered. There were so many great talents that only the best of the best made to TV. A lot of great talents missed out being recognized simply because there were too many talented artists. Another artist you should check out is Steve Marriott of Humble Pie doing a song Tina Turner wrote called "Black Coffee." The performance that is especially good is the one in an intimate session for the show Old Grey Whistlestop, preferred over the one in concert at the Fillmore East. The backup sistah group The Blackberries are awesome and Steve's vocals, WOW! He was a super-talented singer and guitarist. Was with both The Small Faces and Humble Pie as frontman in their groups. Sadly, he along with many other artists of his era were screwed over by managers and recording companies, and didn't get the rewards or recognition they deserved. Disillusioned, Steve got out of the mainline music scene after that, but did solo gigs He perished in a house fire. Another great gone too soon.

    I grew up loving this man's singing. I'm 60 so yes I'm still a number 1 fan. He's an original panty dropper. I really enjoyed your response to him. And he's still as great today.

    What a great reaction, Shon! I remember watching this as a kid. Mom loved listening toTom Jones. She still does sometimes. I'm sure someone has already mentioned the sound you imitated so perfectly(gave me a chuckle) are the string section, violins, cellos, etc. I think the sound you're talking about is cellos. I could be wrong.
