My immediate family is small but holidays can be a little noisy for me. I've come to the realization that it's ok if I dont want to spend the whole time talking to everyone. Sometimes the conversations and laughter get loud, so I've learned to just quietly go to another room and read or look up something on my phone for a few minutes. Even just a couple minutes away can be a refresher and keep me in a good mood 😊

As an introvert I find being on my own replenishing, as being around other people is so exhausting for me. I especially like reading a good book for many hours in peace and quiet. But recently I’ve been trying to encourage myself to get outside and go public to places like cafes or parks while taking a book to read or some writing, that way I get to do what I like while also putting myself in a place where I might end up possibly being social and meeting other people. I like eating out for a treat even if it’s just me, going to a good movie or just relaxing at home watching TV, Netflix or watching an old favourite movie on dvd. Even though family gatherings are usually hard, I am now making an extra effort to try to connect and listen to others about their days, lives, stories or what’s coming up in the future, I guess it’s only the polite thing to do so.
Oh and yeah I want to tryout the act as a character for the day, but I live in a pretty small town and most people know each other here, so I don’t think I could get away with it lol 😆

I thought I was the only one who did that with graveyards! My mom is the only person who knows I do that. I love finding the oldest graves, wondering what the person's life was like, and trying to guess how they may have died.

Consider starting a commonplace book. It’s basically a book with all your knowledge but there are so many videos are on TH-cam I suggest you look up if you are interested as it’s loads of fun
I LOVE going to galleries on my own. I take a small notebook to art galleries and I record a stream of consciousness on each painting that takes my fancy. I'm a n introvert and during the summer holidays at the end of August, I got into the twilight saga and other books like them and would hide in my room for three hours or more just reading. Reading really helped me because I was not mentally there to do anything else and was struggling so much. Thanks for another amazing video Ruby!
One of the benefits of being a true introvert is that you never get bored - if you don't enjoy the company of others, you should enjoy your own. I'm a bordering school student who is never bored - granted, I don't have much time to be bored - but I'd like to try some new things; it might be fun!
Oh man! I pretend to be my comfort characters all the time, or either they're married to me. I love it and it's such a great thing for writing something, or simply daydreaming. And the best part is the problem solving part. By pretending to be one of my babes, I can see the problem that are bothering me in another prospective, or simply I write them letters, or again I'm me and they're by my side listening. The best part is when we just chill, just looking at how the rain falls, at how the sun goes down and leaves the place to a cozy winter evening ... oh man if I adore those moments!
This is such a good and helpful video for me because of my severe autism. I hate people. I want to live in the middle of nowhere and only see 1 or 2 people daily lol. So I’m so excited about this video!!!!!
As an introvert, I hate answering the phone. To me, I love the fact that phones take messages and I can call back at my convenience. No more interruptions, when I am involved with an important task or just don't want to be bothered.
readathons and movie marathons (specially themed ones, with snacks, outfits and even a little Instagram photoshoot matching the theme) are also always fun!! also listening to albums (your favorites or some that you’re not familiar with yet) without skipping or picking what song to listen to, just pressing play and paying attention and then journaling about it (ranking the songs)
2:01 It is very fun! It’s been a habit of mine for so long to make up my own characters and personas and embody them throughout my day! Keeps me entertained beyond bounds. I have favourites now and one of those characters has been with me ever since I was 11. There are certain people who called me ‘unstable’ when they found out, but I do not agree with them, because to me this in itself is expression and exploration, all the possibilities of what I can be. It’s liberating, mind-freeing, and I find self exploration to be very entertaining when practiced this way.
What I truly appreciate about the UK + the rest of Europe is its incredible amount of museums, galleries, exhibitions of all sorts, and very accessible.
I am an introvert and I understand all You said. That we of course enjoy good company. But Also sometimes to be alone company its necessary for us. We dont like huge commotions or loud people. But we enjoy deep learning or reading or write. Museum or library or Random Rumble adventure to great places. An introvert NOT AN ANTI SOCIAL. We are deep people We are great with company or without.
A cool way to make bookmarks if you don’t like to paint is to make thick friendship bracelets. I have several double-chevron bookmarks and string is extremely cheap :) I even make ones inspired by the cover of the books I’m reading it’s so fun!!
I'm actually extremely extroverted however I'm trying to learn to enjoy my own company as a self improvement thing and this was rather helpful. Thank you :)
I rarely comment anything on internet but thanks ruby for this video. these ideas are really unique and as someone who is currently struggling with depression it's really nice to have idea of new things to try.
It's a big world. Always go somewhere very public like a city and explore a shop or mall with something that interests you and see all the other people in the world outside of our bubbles. Bad times always end even when they seem like they don't :)
I adore spending hours on Pinterest, I love naming my boards and I love that looking at my boards names and content is like a intricate visual journal of who I am. I love the gravestones suggestion too! 🌺
This will sound very silly but I am a huge Derry Girls fan (Irish series on Netflix). I have to bike half an hour to university and whenever I am on my bike, I feel like I am one of the Derry Girls myself and say really weird things in the Irish accent on the bike about just anything, just to make the bike ride more fun…. hahaha
On the street rambling point, I love the idea of The 'Flâneur' - the urban stroller, just observing and watching the busy city and urban structures bustling with activity, but not engaging yourself. Just watching...
Growing up, before TH-cam was a thing (I'm 33), I didn't know I was an introvert as the term. I knew I liked my alone time and just assumed it was me being different in some way but no knowing how to explain why. I love my wonderful friends but I have my limits.. I almost feel like being with my friends takes away from the time I like to spend by myself just because I really do always have my 'alone' hobbies. It's great that we can normalize this because extroverts I have met in my life just thought I was depressed.
Great ideas! It just feels so validating to hear these things as an introvert myself. We need to recharge our batteries in our own company, but we so often feel some sort of guilt for not doing something else or doing things by ourselves. That is a mindset that has to change. It is also surprising how similar we introverts are, yet different in our own ways. I can see myself doing (and also already do) pretty much everything you mentioned in this video :)
Dear Ruby, Thank you so much for your inspiring and peaceful content. I am also a writer (sadly I don't spend as much time writing as I want to) and I suddenly realized, that you would be a perfect main character for a book. So humble, so clever, so full of magic, but there is also a depth in your eyes, that knows the darker parts of life. I just wanted to complement your work and your charisma. Greetings from Germany, Sarah
Your comments on hustle culture and the social acceptance of social leisure but not individual leisure really spoke volumes and helped me to feel validated and okay that I like to spend a lot of time alone.
I’m currently reading “Fahrenheit 451,” and a major aspect of that society is that only social activities are acceptable as leisure time. If you’re doing anything alone, it would need to be sitting in an interactive TV parlor or driving at dangerous speeds on the highway. Only high energy/adrenaline activities, which are anathema to introverts. This is also an important aspect of other dystopias: “Brave New World”, “1984.” Being alone with your thoughts or someone else’s thoughts by reading are “anti-social” behaviors. I worry about the anti-intellectualism I see in conservative politics, particularly in the US, but also around the world. Hopefully, as long as we have introverts, we won’t lose our collective mind as a society.
Thank you for making this video. Honestly yesterday i was feeling really hopeless, and feeling that everything will make me bored and that nothing will bring me fun and happiness. And this video really woke me up and made me realize that I don’t know and I haven’t experienced everything yet. This video is also motivating me to get up and do something interesting
I really liked ur notion towards society that spending ur leisure time with urself is like time waste ...my friends also think that I am just uselessly sitting alone and often comment on it . But I just enjoy being with myself .
Omg…. I always thought I was really weird for pretending to be a character when I’m alone. And I don’t just think about it I go into full on acting mode. I think it’s really cool that people do this too lol
I love doing the character thing! I like doing impressions and accents so I have a bunch of characters from different countries and whole life stories that I'll use when I go out and end up talking to a person I'll never again see in my life (cashiers, waiters etc.) just because I find it slightly amusing and it also takes me out of my natural character and makes me way less nervous in public. Some of the people at my Uni who know I do this have started inviting me to dinner and lunches simply for the entertainment of how eccentric I get with some of them and the victim desperately trying to get me to shut up because they aren't interested in my characters life story. Highly recommend. (I might be an awful person)
this person ruby is one of the ONE times schools generate a nice and hard working person. they cant seem to do it with anyone else. shes really nice and all think of the 32% per cent of girls and boys who are failed every year on gcses they should all be at the same level or not bother to teach. i am amazed you did so well but its not everyone schools should admit this when they start up less likely for dissapointments later.
I live in Downey California. I love reading outside and found some beautiful reading spots which people just walk by. They think I am odd, I am an introvert thank you . I read at hospital gardens, shopping centers and so many beautiful reading spots…. Weekends, I go to Los angels and read in little Tokyo, alvera street and. The LAST BOOK store los angels. Thank you. I am ok…. ❤❤❤❤
thank you for this :) im an introvert too, and while most of my family is such, im definitely a lot more so than the rest of my family. this is so refreshing to see and hear because most of my friends are extroverts as well, and it was a nice reminder that it’s okay to be on my own sometimes :)
Thank you so incredibly much for this video, I can't even put into words how happy I am right now :') this was very inspiring, especially the "act like a character" it sounds like so much fun
wow, i'd really enjoying doing almost everything that you mentioned. it makes me so happy that more people are feeling like that because in my inner circle nobody would understand. They would think i'm weird.
I do the pinterest one a lot! I always felt guilty about it, because it just feels like I'm wasting time on my phone, but it's nice to see it as an actual activity ☺
Well this is pretty much what i do every day. I am in the library right now, in my favorite room. Its at the top floor so its very quiet, and the books here are on art, music and philosophy. And there is an old book-card organizer here which i wish i could share i picture of. With the little cards that would be in the back of the books, that used to be stamped when someone borrowed the book. Its no longer in use, but there is something nice about the fact that they still keep it here.
You keep me really motivated whilst I’m in my third year of uni (Ngl I’m not enjoying it that much) your videos are such a boost and escape for me. Keep being you, gorgeous person xXx
I just watched this in Australia! I love the idea of doing a movie night, make bookmarks (I am an artist so I usually paint them), and Pinterest! I'm crazy about Pinterest! I have many boards, particicularly crochet, easy painting, card-making, etc. Great idea for a video! Thanks Ruby xxxx
I absolutely love this video! My favourite thing to do is become a different character! Love this idea and its so great to spark the imagination! I love how relaxed you are in this video. Bravo!
Same! I also make Pinterest boards and Spotify playlists for it too (and sometimes I pretend to be fictional characters I love especially when doing school work) oh and sometimes I become the characters I’ve designed for books if I need inspo and stuff
in my opinion, the introverts (count me in too:)) are most likely to became an actor/actress because they usually (talking abt myself btw) dont like to be like theirselves. as an INFJ, i really dont like being in the mood of anxiety. its so bad and i cant help it to not be like that...(tried) like, sometimes when im alone in my room or any place doesnt matter. im starting to talk to myself or a mirror if there is one. and i play a witch that goes to hogwarts, or whatever i want. it helps me everytime. if you are an introvert, please try it out! bye:)
Great idea! I also pretend to be a character sometimes. I like to write letter as if I'm living in a period of History that I like. When I do it, I can also practice my English and French.
The 2nd one if you do it quite often with just not creating your oc but also acting out random scenarios for them or create who knows different universes n sometimes recycle em (a lot of times in your life) That becomes a mental disorder that I have and its pretty fun to have as an introvert- maladaptive daydreaming
Many not understand the Introvert.!!! When you grow up, you would know many works didn't support the kind of who you are ....but fews. So, find type of work to match you is very important. Tranquility and Being with yourself doing things you love is the most precious time that nothing else could replace. Incredibly Chill 👍. Who is not, never could feel. Cheer for you, girl 👍💕
Thank you for sharing these ideas! And I find it to be quite true, this point you made about things to do: they indeed tend to lean more towards the social, though I've begun to notice a slight shift in this as well. I find even this to be somewhat interesting. Why the shift? Regarding the reading point, I don't know why, but I become so self-conscious if I were to go to the park or some other place like that and just start reading there. Mind, I haven't done this yet, but it's something I've wanted to do for a while now. Guess I'm too nervous of just "sit there and do nothing". Maybe I'll try to overcome this one on this summer... The other tips are good and nice, too. I especially liked the one where you create your own character and then pretend to be said character. I don't know how well I'd do with that one, but it sure feels like something really worth at least trying!
Sooooo glad you got mythologie candles going Ruby!!! They're the best. The Yule Tide Candles are out. Long house hearth, and Northern lights are my fav.
I'm older than you are and currently don't have time to spend a whole afternoon reading, but I remember when I was single and I did, and it was always so wonderful to do that.
I am not sure that I am an introvert. I love spending time with friends and family, but between those meeting I need lots of time alone. My hobbies include: reading and watching videos, photographing still lifes at home, taking early morning or evening photo walks to fields, empty beaches (fall, winter, spring), woods etc., baking, drawing. So most things I do I actually do alone most of the time, except clickertraining my budgies - but that is with budgies, not other people. Most of the time I meet other people it is either only for talking, a breakfast outing, very rarely baking or taking photos together and often of fitness activities.

Being alone for a while is dangerous. It’s addicting. Once you see how peaceful it is, you don’t want to deal with people anymore. ~ Tom Hardy
I'm a n introvert and during the summer holidays at the end of August, I got into the twilight saga and other books like them and would hide in my room for three hours or more just reading. Reading really helped me because I was not mentally there to do anything else and was struggling so much. Thanks for another amazing video Ruby!
Try reading Midnight Sun + Life and Death, if you have read the main series and finished them. I really liked how the author mixed things up.
@@Rinzler.14 I'll look into it thanks for the suggestion!
I feel so rejuvenated with your ideas! I especially love the library and your idea of choosing a random number and finding the book is delightful!
Introverts make the world go round, discuss important philosophy and enjoy the joys of hobbies and goals. Not a bad thing
We are deep people
We are great with company or without.
introvert: someone who enjoys their own company & close friends company rather than big crowds
I know because I've gone through it. Sometimes depression is just our mind's way of telling us were not living out our purpose or potential
Yes. Address the cause. Go out into the world
I wouldn't say unique lmao
@@RED-my9hl your moms ayy nuss is unique
Dear Ruby,
Thank you so much for your inspiring and peaceful content.
Your idea is very attractive. Also, we can easily incorporate these ideas into our daily lives. Can't wait to wake up tomorrow morning!
Hopefully, as long as we have introverts, we won’t lose our collective mind as a society.
the bliss of being on your own no small talk
Working in retail has made me realise just how introverted i am... Looking forward to trying some of these on my time off 😅
Thank you so much Ruby, I really feel honored to met you.
Ruby! That's Amazing! I'm so glad that you share with us these usefull advises. Thanks from Italy by an introvert 🍁❤️
Absolutely love these ideas! They are so unique, I'm definitely going to try some. Thank you Ruby for the inspiration! Hope you have a lovely week. 🧡
this person ruby is one of the ONE times schools generate a nice and hard working person. they cant seem to do it with anyone else. shes really nice and all think of the 32% per cent of girls and boys who are failed every year on gcses they should all be at the same level or not bother to teach. i am amazed you did so well but its not everyone schools should admit this when they start up less likely for dissapointments later.
They would think i'm weird.
i love doing a few things by myself. just do your best ruby. my parents tell me that all the time
you are the idol all of us introverts need, you act as a reminder that its okay to be an introvert and for that I'm sure were all grateful!
for me i have that one group of friends that i love and love hanging out with but i also love being alone and away from the world.
i just wanted to say I absolutely loved this video, they seem like genuinely fun things to do and I already want to do them
As I was the youngest by 12 to 20 years, I learned to be by myself, and enjoyed it.
My own top activities for introverts: a walk in the park, reading a book with a cup of tea, knitting and drawing 😊
I do the pinterest one a lot! I always felt guilty about it, because it just feels like I'm wasting time on my phone, but it's nice to see it as an actual activity ☺
Ruby, you have such wonderful ideas. You are giving me permission to do things for the pure enjoyment of it and not to fulfill a specific purpose.
Keep being you, gorgeous person xXx
im a huge extrovert trying to love myself a lil more, and learn to be alone with the limited things i have. ty for this ☺️
I just watched this in Australia!
Hi Ruby. You should watch Susan Cain's TED talk titled 'The Power of Introverts' It is really amazing.
So many great ideas Ruby. One of my goals for the new year is to be more kind to myself and to take myself on a date.
in my opinion, the introverts (count me in too:)) are most likely to became an actor/actress because they usually (talking abt myself btw) dont like to be like theirselves. as an INFJ, i really dont like being in the mood of anxiety. its so bad and i cant help it to not be like that...(tried) like, sometimes when im alone in my room or any place doesnt matter. im starting to talk to myself or a mirror if there is one. and i play a witch that goes to hogwarts, or whatever i want. it helps me everytime. if you are an introvert, please try it out! bye:)
Great idea! I also pretend to be a character sometimes. I like to write letter as if I'm living in a period of History that I like. When I do it, I can also practice my English and French.
2:21 I already always do this, it’s mainly actual characters from games and shows though. I think it kind of a problem but it’s comforting
The 2nd one if you do it quite often with just not creating your oc but also acting out random scenarios for them or create who knows different universes n sometimes recycle em (a lot of times in your life)
That becomes a mental disorder that I have and its pretty fun to have as an introvert- maladaptive daydreaming
Wow i did not expect this to be so creative!!
Hello Ruby, I love your videos! They make me feel soooo well and happy. You have a big fan in Brazil 🤎
You’re such a main character and I love it.
Thanks so much for these ideas, I completely relate to finding social activities still fun but it definitely drains my energy! Thanks again!
I saw fragments of that show you're watching on TikTok and it really IS hilarious! 🤣I would love to see the full episode!
Watch the christmas one! That's my favourite one haha!
I love your ideas! I’m a true introvert as well and value my alone time so much 🤗
I also love your pumpkin sheets..
I really enjoyed this video. It was so cozy and comfortable and the ideas are so unique. I can’t wait to try them out 💕 thank u
I like how specific these ideas are lol.
Ruby granger is my favorite after all 💜✨
Sooooo glad you got mythologie candles going Ruby!!! They're the best. The Yule Tide Candles are out. Long house hearth, and Northern lights are my fav.
I'm older than you are and currently don't have time to spend a whole afternoon reading, but I remember when I was single and I did, and it was always so wonderful to do that.
I just noticed how fitting it is that the pi pie is round^^
I am glad someone gave attention to the introverts.
i'm so glad to know you, ruby, that i feel so much better when i listen to you❤️❤️
As a cosplayer who sometimes goes out as characters I loved the second one
I love your chair. Bet it's really comfy 👍
I really enjoyed this video. It was also really helpful
Thank you I benefited from the video. your follow-up from Iraq 🇮🇶
