    When I see a project like this I figure straight away, a carb rebuild, top end rebuild, drain nd clean the fuel tank and oil tank if it has it. replace all fuel, water, oil lines with new hose. On the rear, pull and tidy up the jet pump assembly, and replace the wear ring straight away. Verify steering and throttle cables are good and move freely. Replace if needed. It is easier to do all this with the engine pulled and everything exposed. Yeah it means an extra $500 and up, but you get basically a new engine, carb, and you know it shouldn't fail you while you are on the water. Least it shouldn't.

    Love the videos my man. How fast can you typically get these older skis up to? I recently bought a pair of 92’ wave runner 650s and was wondering how fast you typically get them up to?

    • @RuralPlayground
      @RuralPlayground  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually just depends on my schedule, but if I have all the parts already it would realistically only take a weekend. Most of the time it just comes down to waiting on parts.

      You can do the tool loaner program at Autozone or OReillys and get your deposit back when you return the tester so it doesn't cost anything.

    Can I ask a question? There are two hoses coming off the vent canister. One goes to the tank. Where does the other one connect? It’s not in the manual.

    • @RuralPlayground
      @RuralPlayground  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's supposed to hook up to the battery. I believe back in the day the old batteries would have a vent connection to vent hydrogen gas, new sealed batteries don't really have to worry about this so they don't have anywhere to connect to. I could be wrong though. None of my skis have the extra vent hose connected to anything.

    • @stevenichols1861
      @stevenichols1861 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@patfinnegan270 and yes, I just drilled a hole on each side of the ski, sealed it with blue RTV silicone from Orieillys and added the plugs I listed from Amazon. It’s pretty simple really, and pretty inexpensive.

      Those motors are a lot more resilient than you give them credit. Recently sold both of those skis to a guy in running condition. Also, an engine rebuild isn't even that expensive or hard if you find it necessary.
