Seeing Phil's reaction to Chester's response to his opening drum solo is absolutely priceless! For those who may not know, Phil offered Chester the live drum chair with Genesis in 1976 with NO AUDITION out of appreciation for his work with Frank Zappa and Weather Report, among others. As I see it, one great drummer showing such respect and admiration to an equal or greater drummer is the ultimate compliment. These two masters elevated the art of double drumming to new heights over three plus decades and I never tire of watching their performances. Thanks for sharing!
yeah, agree. and only someone as good as Chester could have done that job (playing live with Phil/Genesis); cos it's hard enough to play only the live parts for a band, but when you're drumming the live parts for a band where the lead-singer is also the drummer, it puts a lot of pressure on you to perform at your very best each time. and Chester had no problem with this.
Phil is an amazing drummer and it is astonishing to me that some people do not know he is a drummer at all! He’s legendary and there will never be another talent as prolific and gifted in as many areas I believe as Phil Collins. I can watch him drum all day! He had to already be in quite some pain by this time and it hurts me to even think about him continuing on like that! But we never heard him complain one word until we found out he was unable to pick up the sticks anymore and had to literally tape them to his hands to play for his last album! Great news is he’s talking about new original music again and will be performing in October in USA, and February, 2019 in Australia and NZ! Hopefully other places from there. He said he is willing to reunite with Genesis if they will let his son Nicholas do the drumming! Thanks.
@@progrockjournal oh hell no, Phil made Genesis better with both his drumming and singing. Genesis were going nowhere with Peter and his on-stage shenanigans.
I love your videos! As a drummer and a diehard Phil and Genesis fan, I would watch the concert videos constantly. I would often wish one day that I could see just Phil's perspective and you are now making it a reality! Thank you so much!
Both Sides I eagerly await each of your videos and I know and deeply appreciate all the effort you’ve put into them! I watched and enjoy them over and over! Thanks again. I was watching one of your other videos when I got the notification on this one. I wanted to finish that one before coming to see this. Thanks for the link to Chester’s view too of this. (I’ve seen it too and it’s fun!) God Bless you Phil.
Huge catalog of truly unique and inventive drum compositions from Phil over 4 decades. I've seen him live with Genesis, Robert Plant, and solo. My biggest influence without question. John Bonham, Stewart Copeland, Jimmy Chamberlin, others follow. I cannot educate those who don't know how tremendously talented a drummer he is but appreciate reading posts by those who get it.
People want to compare him to Peart or other technical drummers. Phil's never been a machine. He's a self taught, organic drummer with legendary imagination and creativity.
You're welcome, that's why I set up this channel. Phil is really one of the greatest and underestimated artists, and I want people to see there's much more to Phil than just the 'easy listening' stuff...
Thank you for your sharing-sharing of your work, I am grateful to you./Merci pour votre partage-partagé de votre oeuvre, Je vous en suis reconnaissant.
Hammer hart! Geil.!
I’ve always thought that Phil Collins was a better sounding drummer than Neil Pert from Rush. I know I’m in the minority on this one, but Collins had a more crisp and rhythmic cadence with his style of playing. Pert’s drumming on the other hand was more of a blended noise mixed with too much speed in his drumming style. Pert also had way too many drums in his set on stage. While it looked cool, having too many drums is like having too many guitarists on stage. When there’s too much of any one instrument, they just all seem to blend in together and the quality of the sound merges into a flat “noise.” You can tell who’s a better drummer when someone with fewer drums, actually does more with sound pitch and clarity. Whereas Pert was just overloaded with too many drums on stage in my opinion, The highs and lows just blended into one unwavering noise with very little pitch change. Collins who perfected the distinct clarity and pitch with each drum he touched will forever be one of the greatest, if not the greatest overall.

Phil in my opinion is ONLY the Genesi (Gabriel-era) drummer... The best pewriod of his career

"Take me home" is my burial song. Thank you Phil Collins for a lifetime of Outstanding Music!

Longest metal drum fill of all time

As a guitarist, I’m not a fan of drums 😂 but they know how to hit those skins 👏

Brilliant....As good as phil is, and he is good , there is no one on this planet that could touch the late great Cozy Powell
Doubt Cozy Powell could play much of early 70s Genesis prog rock songs with the same pocket and groove as Phil Collins.
He doesn’t look healthy 😢
