If you're shipping via Mercari the envelope/box doesn't matter as long as your weight is accurate when listing the item on Mercari. Just don't use USPS Flat Rate shipping supplies. If you're using a 3rd party shipping site like Pirate Ship. It's more strict, so if you're using USPS priority supplies you need to select it. Hope that makes sense.

@@redrookie2 Any packaging will do for media mail with Pirate ship. Don't use Priority Supplies for media mail. I use 9x6 padded manila envelopes for movies and games or bubble wrap and a polybag for books.

No, the price depends on the weight but it'll still be cheaper than regular priority. At 2lbs figure it's about $3.33 and it's roughly $.50 more per pound after that. Hope that helps.

Since Mercari does flat rate prices, you can set up a fake listing and input fake numbers by weight class (4oz, 6oz, 8oz, 16oz, 5lbs etc) to find the shipping cost based on your location. Write it down and you'll know shipping prices just by knowing the weight of your package. Hope that makes sense.
I actually don’t prefer pirate ship and I like to use Stamps.com instead. It’s all about preference but if you’ve never heard of it you should try it out!
This was great, thanks. A few other TH-cam videos which talk about media mail restrictions say that you can only send the book/cd etc WITHOUT a thank you note. Also, by no means any comic books either. I’d like to send a note but was advised to just use thank you stickers. 🤷🏼♀️

I'm about to stop selling on mercari they will not let you use you print your own label any, you have to use they're label now, so a package that's usually cost 9 will cost 12 mercari
You're correct. But max weight for media mail is 70lbs so I was covered. It is ok to ship in a poly bag but I wrapped the book in bubble wrap first since I didn't have blank bubble mailers that were large enough. You can't use the priority shipping material for media mail. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching!

I messed up I think on the free shipping part, because I don't have the same options to list out which carrier and tracking number. All Mercari gives me are options for their prepaid label. :( Lesson learned.

Everyone knows how to do this already. What we need is the option within the mercari shipping system that allows us to use things like media mail since not everything should just automatically have a shipping cost in $5 increments. It's hurting sales. Plus mercari's ten percent. Then the two dollars no matter how much money just to get your money out. A lot he's to change and they could actually be an eBay contender. I'd like to be able to upload my items just to mercari and not eBay as well one day. And mercari's ruthless messaging overlording. I've signed on saying i was an adult. If I'd like to share an email like an adult I sold be about to and fucking anything I want.
Unfortunately, people don't know how to do this already. Hence the video. Some people don't even know what media mail is. As you said, how many people miss out on sales because of shipping costs. However, eBay is no better with it's calculated shipping which I think is a huge profit killer unless a buyer is paying it. Especially if you're shipping coast to coast. Unfortunately, you'll have to get used to the way Mercari pays since eBay is going to the same with managed payments. I'd rather wait the 3-5 business days for my money than waiting on a buyer indefinitely to pay for an item. Or even worse, having to go through eBay to open a claim because someone didn't pay, that's a waste of time. As for the email thing that's almost every selling platforms' policy. It's to a) protect people from getting scammed b) they have a business to protect too. The only way around it is to sell on FB marketplace no fees and you can share all the emails you want. Mercari is making moves but ultimately not reselling platform is perfect. Gotta find what works for you. Thanks for watching.
