I've used your method several times and have had nothing but compliments on it! I like that it's recycling a box into 2-3 book mailers, and I add that into my listing that 'Your book will come in a 100% upcycled box".
Ignore the haters, this was a helpful & useful video. Back when Amazon cared about not damaging books you ordered, I recieved a unique wrapping job a couple of times I wanted to share & it requires slightly less effort. It starts with a having a box the book will fit into. There should be at least a couple of inches of space around the perimeter of the book. You then take some scrap cardboard larger than the box opening (assuming from the top, NOT a side opening) & cut it down so that scrap cardboard will barely fit when placed inside the box. Then saran wrap the book to that scrap cardboard so you have this one piece that consists of the book, cardboard & wrap. Then lay it into the box. It should fit really snug. It'll be wedged inside the box; shouldn't budge, even if turned upside down. Hopefully that makes sense. I used to wrap books in old city maps or pages from those oversized road atlases, which are still being made, btw! Thanks for the video!
Careful with what freebie boxes you get, I thought I got lucky when I asked my local store and they said YES! Got home it was all maxi pad boxes lol thank you for the video :)
This is great! Thank you, Loren! My son has cystic fibrosis and gets tons of packages a month for his medical supplies. I'm excited to try this method, very creative and nicely packaged! :D I loved the birds eye view joke I was cracking up! What a cute bird you have!:)
I just shipped my first book using your method. Very nice. It seems to use and waste more cardboard than my method, but cardboard is free and easy to get if you let the right people know what you are doing. I was using bubble wrap for every book and scotch taping it. Scotch tape and bubble wrap are not free. Your method can save a lot of money. I use acid-free paperback and digest-sized (as well as various comics and magazine sizes) polyurethane bags for my books instead of plastic wrap. Probably saves a bit of work and not expensive.
Thanks. I am glad you liked this method. I’ve tried shipping books all kinds of different ways… I just have an abundance of cardboard so much so that I actually end up burning a lot of it just to get rid of it lol. It worked out great though because I installed a woodstove in my garage so I just constantly feed it cardboard in the winter and it keeps the garage toasty warm. I try to avoid using any new plastic wherever I can just cause it’s so bad for the environment and we use so much already. I will however, if it is a high value book wrap it in stretch wrap before putting it inside the cardboard mailer just in case it gets wet.
Excellent. Very similar to the method I have developed and I will try yours to see if it works better. I wrap my books in bubble wrap before boxing. I do use heavier duty cardboard for very expensive paperbacks and paperbacks going overseas, as twice I have experiences paperbacks arriving folded in half across the spine. I figure this is caused by piles of packages collapsing in trucks and airplanes and such, where my book is underneath and gets crushed at a bad angle. Thanks for the demo.
I have done it with book sets before. Up to 10 books… You just need a really big piece of cardboard lol… Also pro tip pre-wrap your books in stretch wrap to hold them together like one giant block and it will make it easier to make the mailer. Use a thick cardboard for extra protection.and lots of tape.
Awesome! I’m glad you got something from the video. Thanks for subscribing! If you want to find free boxes easily, go to Facebook and look for your local yard sale groups. Most of the time when people move into the area they will post free boxes in the local community Facebook groups. You can also post a wanted post for free boxes. I do that once every couple of months and I’m usually set. I rarely buy boxes except for the LTL shipments I send into Amazon. And the only reason I purchase boxes for that is because it’s way easier to stack a pallet with uniform box sizes. Everything I send out myself goes in a free box I get off of Facebook.

Interesting! I love watching other people create, because their ideas are usually different from mine. For example I would have made the box backwards, meaning I would have had your short section belong in your long section be short, until that would get confusing to me. Ha ha. New subscriber!
My only question is why didn't you cut the sides off at first instead of scoring, folding, THEN cutting them off? To get a cleaner cut? To safeguard against cutting too much? Please let me know.
Yes, to avoid cutting off too much... This is an older video. Now I am better at cutting to fit. The more you practice the better you will get. It is easier to trim off a little excess than deal with a mailer cut too small.
With most books, I'd begin with a book wrapped in bubble wrap or something since the cardboard just isn't good enough. This is certainly better than your typical box. A padded envelope alone is never good enough, small book or no. (I've had to return so many books over the years.)
I’ve shipped hundreds of books this way with no bubble wrap or anything. Never had a complaint. The only time I would use any extra care is if the book value was more than $50. Definitely would recommend bubble wrap for higher value books…

Hi I am literally brand new to selling online and only get my head around it all however do I need o weigh it and add it to the price of the ad or I am overthinking it on eBay thanks
your shipping cost will be based on the total shipping weight and in come cases the dimensions of the package; including packaging. If you are selling books then you should be using media mail mostly which is only weight based. I always bump the weight by 1-2lbs depending on how big the item is to allow for box weight. Also, I don't usually offer free shipping and typically make a small premium on shipping in addition to the item sale price. Keep in mind that ebay charges their percentage on the item price as well as the shipping price... so if you charge $10 for shipping, ebay will keep about $1.50 of that. So, if you charge $10 for the shipping and it actually costs $10 to ship the item you are out $1.50...
Not sure about that. I print labels through Amazon. You could also use a postage service like fitshipper or pirateship. These services allow you to purchase postage at the bulk discount rates even if you don't purchase a lot of postage.

sunny&stormy777 _ I would complain about the cold… But look who I’m talking to… I know I get super cold up there because I have friends that used to live up there. It got down to 8° here this morning.
Loren Willcock cody byrd is gorgeous and her beautiful white color,so attractive. Do you have other pets? I was looking back at your page and seeing animal compassion. We had many cats and currently 6. I would love to see a vid of cody byrd or if you have other pets or outside animals. Our weather last week has been 15-18 below zero with windchills 30-40 below. Not so cold finally today. Sending warm wishes to you and cody byrd for a wonderful new 2018.😃❤👋🎊🎉😇
sunny&stormy777 _ hi. I do have videos featuring Cody and her brother, Beauregard. th-cam.com/video/FX8TlLdHYs0/w-d-xo.html that link will take you to Cody‘s 21st hatch day celebration in 2016. I have lots of other animals. Outside animals too. I also have three indoor cats and I don’t even know how many outdoor cats I am feeding… I think it’s three or four and a couple of possums and the occasional raccoon LOL! I have a dog, I have geese, chickens, turkeys, emus, a goat and a pig. I also have pet snakes and a giant goldfish. I plan to make more videos this spring when the weather is nicer. I am on Instagram @lorenwillcock. I post a lot of my animal videos there as well, actually I posted more there than I do here because it is just easier. I can’t believe it gets so cold up there! It just doesn’t seem survivable LOL I have never experienced anything quite that cold. We occasionally get in the negative temperatures here but it is extremely rare. Right now every night I go out where my emus are nesting and bury them in straw. All you see is an emu head poking out of a stack of straw LOL. I posted about that a few days ago on my Instagram.
Loren Willcock Hi again Loren. You can call me Julie. I thought new year new name. Sunny & Stormy were 2 cats we had some years ago and i just like the number 7. I envy you. I love all animals and i would love to be able to do what you do,husband says oh no. We have seen a few opossums coming in our backyard. Lots of squirrels and bunnies/rabbits. Also hawks, owls and eagles. Lots of pictures of those. I feed them all and the birds. I am not tech savy and i finally went to my cell phone provider and had them help me with my phone. I got set-up with Facebook, now i will have to get set-up on instagram. (sounds silly i know) I am just picturing your Emus heads poking out of a stack of straw,oh how cute. But yeah, now i have to get on instagram. Are you on Facebook at all? Will see you again. Wishing you a wonderful day/evening. Julie 😀😻🐾🐟🐷🐖🐐🐔🐕🐱🐑🐡😍😺😙😇
Sunnyview Merc Thanks for the feedback… I am a little bit on the new side to making these kinds of videos. I have noticed that some of them are longer than they need to be and I am working on improving on future videos.
Why buy what you can get for free? Why add to our carbon footprint when you don’t have to? These boxes would end up in the landfill if I didn’t reuse them. It would take polluting diesel exhaust to ship them to the landfill. And more polluting diesel exhaust or gas exhaust to get the new ones to me. Buying boxes would’ve caused more carbon put in the air to manufacture the box, then to ship the box to me, etc. not to mention the pollution caused to harvest the materials to make the box as well as habitat destruction etc. I have no problem spending the 60 seconds it typically takes me to make one of these to help our environment and keep the world a better place for the next generation. I sure wish more people would think that way. Instead of just about dollars and cents. It’s a damn shame really.
Someone please tell this guy and viewers of this video that you can get bubble mailers for .25¢ when you buy them by the hundred, and that includes shipping. Must not have a lot of orders.
And everyone has to start somewhere… When I first started out I was only selling a few books a week. I was going to thrift stores with spare change and picking up books for $.35 apiece and flipping them on Amazon. Learning the process. Everyone’s at a different place on their own journey… You shouldn’t be condescending to someone out there trying to make an honest living. Not everyone has the money, or even space to have a couple hundred each of a couple different sizes of book mailers laying around when all they’re trying to do is make a little extra cash to get by.
I've used your method several times and have had nothing but compliments on it! I like that it's recycling a box into 2-3 book mailers, and I add that into my listing that 'Your book will come in a 100% upcycled box".

sunny&stormy777 _ I would complain about the cold… But look who I’m talking to… I know I get super cold up there because I have friends that used to live up there.
I was in the store looking to buy mailers. I changed my mind not to buy. Thanks
Thank you for making this bird's eye video Short and sweeeet..could be shorter. Stumbled upon you by accident, just subscribed🙂
Pirate mails a book. True story.
Good video, but needs to be under 5 minutes.
Sunnyview Merc Thanks for the feedback… I am a little bit on the new side to making these kinds of videos. I have noticed that some of them are longer than they need to be and I am working on improving on future videos.
12 minutes to ship a book
12 mins to explain how to ship a book... less than 1 min to actually pack it...
That is too much none sense, and too much time to make a box to ship a book. Just buy what is needed and save time.
I don’t ship books in bubble mailers. And I routinely return and get refunded for books shipped to me in bubble mailers because they get damaged.
@@lorenwillcock💯
No. Plus I've received many books damaged in bubble mailers.
Thank you for making this vid🐥 It was super helpful - easy to follow the instructions! 🪶
Thanks for the sub!🙂
Exactly what I was looking for! Very helpful, thank you
That was awesome. Thank you.
