@@LGranthamsHeir yes I know what you said and you're talking about the ones were joined, but as a race, those who were unjoined would have no reason to potentially use the term for themselves.. But those with a symbiont might only say they and them cuz there's literally two different entities comprising one. Pretty appropriate if you ask me from a certain perspective. @@LGranthamsHeir I don't think that's actually true. There's multiple gender neutral species mentioned in TNG, and I think at one point there was mention of a species with more than 2 genders. Also the Trill often refer to themselves as the gender of the host, and use the host's pronouns. The symbionts probably use they/them, but we never really get to see that part.
@@jasonpye4649 I think there is only one Trill that I've seen using they/them after being joined (From ST:Discovery). All others seem to use the host's pronouns. Also don't forget DS9 had an off screen male character that got pregnant at least twice.
I love how well she can connect with people. With all those different hosts it provides experience and perspective. That is why I loved Dax and the Tok'Ra in stargate.
I feel like in the 90s you'd have plenty of tomboys on TV. Thats essentially what Pel is here. Though, she iswearing a prosthetic to appear male, so I suppose it is a more explicit example of crossdressing. Still, I don't think a woman crossdressing would have been unheard of on TV back then. A man, thats less likely. People have always been more resistant to males crossdressing compared to females. Aside from these days.

Hi jamieolberding7731, Good ideas! Your first idea I was planning for next week. Great minds think alike. As for your second idea, I just watched that episode about two weeks ago. I like when Quark info Odo that he has a cloaking device.
I love how Jadzia suses out that Pel is attracted to Quark - but misreads their interest as homosexuality rather than them being trans xD God this show was progressive for it's time!
@Squiglypig - they're coding themselves as male because they have male urges and male desires atypical for female Ferengi Their relationship with Quark ends because of Quarks own cultural intolerance and inability to rectify Pel with who they are vs. how they present That's a pretty Trans experience, my dude
@@2Scribble It's not trans. Just because you're masculine (or hold traditionally masculine interests) doesn't make you trans. Also: Wtf does "they're coding themselves as male" mean? @@2Scribble Pel is a woman. Ferengi women are normally chained to the kitchen and not allowed to leave the house or wear clothes. She wants to be in business and live as a free being. It's much better written. It's not even a big deal to dax that Pel would be gay because it's so normal and accepted. The show is not preaching. No one wants a show preaching it's values
Considering the fact Quark would find out and eventually tolerate his mother being female and good at business I'm surprised he never looked Pel up.
Cuz I guess he found he was never actually attracted to her maybe?
Well, you are implying that Quark grew as a person over the course of the series. 😏
Hmm but he was
I love that being gay is somehow less of a problem than being a woman in Ferengi culture.

I love that Dax didn’t assume Pel was straight.
I think it’s a little evident that Dax’s hunch on her actually being a woman was stronger than we or she realized. But whatever, that’s just me
@@teleportedbreadfor3days Oh, like Dax was feigning surprise so Pel didn’t feel bad that her disguise was obvious.
