ErGO, IT TREK techobabble WORKS & I was happy at the time Nana got to STILL be onscreen working as a living proud strong woman who was pregnant as MANY women are while pregnant, not bedbound prissy princesses from misogynistic Victorian ages. Nana got the DS9 job after only 3mo previously given birth to her first child.

And to show or know HOW perfectly in-tune with each other they are - regardless if Kira is just a BFF, dating him or he knows she loves him - KIRA IS GOING TO HELL OR HIGH WATER DO WHAT SHE THINKS IS RIGHT! ODO KNOWS and loves that about her, I love that character consistency they show and back in s2e2-3? I love the way Odo looks at Kira too. He loves her so much, and wishes he could help her and take away her pain. But he knows she is the only one that can do it for her own satisfaction and justice. Kira Nerys is as beautiful as she is strong. That clip where Kira had to leave the station is so good too. Odo desperately wants her to stay because he loves her, but he can't say that. So he lectures her about her values and what she has fought so hard for.
The fact she was pregnant made it more badass. I see too many woman "pregnant " in films and they walk as if they weren't. Major Kira mastered the waddle. 😆
She was ACTUALLY pregnant just months before the shoot for this episode and just had a baby when she auditioned for the role of Kira and got it. So Nana Visitor KNOWS active working pregnancy!
ironically .... her being pregnant SAVED her life. that was the only reason that he didn't kill her off top ... and her asking for a sedative that she knew would NOT sedate her at all gave her the only opening she would need to end him. permanently.
3:49.....always liked this little exchange. Worf is rambling and wasting valuable time so Sisko snaps his head off and dismisses him - and Worf completely accepts it. There's no anger from him, no hesitation. He gets straight onto the job - like he should have been doing 15 seconds ago aha!
Kira: He wanted to protect the innocent, and separate the light from the dark. But he didn't realize, the light only shines in the dark.. And sometimes innocence is just an excuse for the guilty. (So true)

This episode was so hard for me when I first saw it, it encapsulated so many ways innocents are hurt when an imperial power decided to take over only to find themselves fighting the native population and ones hurt most are the non-combative.
Imperial colonial powers use their poor and lower classes to be the grist meat and fodder to die for the victory and oppressing of others thus condemning their souls in the damning occupation. No one wins but the leaders & planners.
During wartime, so many innocents are hurt and killed. Both physically and mentally, the people resisting and the people invading are hurt. Some soldiers don't even want to fight, but are drafted in the fight.
