Love these more technical videos. Videos on computer games abound for the ST, so this type of content is refreshing.

Good description of TOS architecture, main parts. However, there are few errors: in title is ADHI instead AHDI. Later it is correct in video. When comes to max disk sizes - at 4m25s there is little confusion and missing relevant limitation. So, first saying max. disk size, then when talking about how is with diff. TOS versions saying (correctly) max partition size. Text on screen is just 'Max size' .
Well, that may confuse, especially as there is not so unigue usage of terms in diverse literature. Some say partition, some say logical drive. Certainly most important parameter would be max disk size or better said area what TOS can access. And it is of course max partition size multiplied by max partition count (what TOS can handle). And it is 14, for all 1.00-4.04 .
To add: I'm who made Pera Putnik driver, so I know about this things pretty well. And did even more - made changes in TOS (1.04 and 1.62), so it can access max 30x max 1 GB partitions - that's approx real size of 1 32 GB Flash card (real size is less by about 10% than nominal size by Flash cards). Plus, it can work with pure DOS type FAT16 partitions, unlike original TOS what is compatible with DOS type partitions only up to 32 MB partition size. And slack (wasted disk space) is less with real FAT16 partitions, work little faster. On my site can find more details about all it.

Hi Peter. Big fan of your work and user of your drivers. I’ll totally defer to you on all of the above.

Will your driver work with zip drives?

Very interesting stuff here. I had NVDI (version 2 or maybe 3) back in the day which was recommended to me when I bought Atari Works. I think the main reason for this was the support for TrueType fonts which were needed for that package, although the speed improvement to all GEM based applications for very impressive. Can't remember exact benchmarking scores, but I think it was at least double that of the standard system. I ran all this on a Mega STE, so also had the benefit of 16Mhz and the Blitter chip which all helped, but NVDI definitely contributed the most to that speed boost.

Really glad you like this. If you want a detailed description of the performance boost that NVDI gave you have a look at this video I did recently.

Yes, I found that straight after watching this video. Again, really great stuff and you explain how it all works very clearly.
I've got 5 Iomega Zip disks somewhere in the house with all of my ST software backup up on it, so plan to find that over the weekend and take a trip down memory lane. Hopefully the data is still good on those disks. Last time I fired them up was back in 1999 when I got my first iMac G3 and they worked fine with the NoSTalgia emulator back then. Hopefully they still work, and I'll be able to try them out with Hatari over the weekend.
Keep up the good work with these excellent videos. Subscribed.

I've been watching these in turn but I'll need to rewatch this one at least once more. It's difficult stuff!

I agree. But if you've watched the video "Supercharge your atari ST, SpeedoGDOS, NDVI, NeoDesk and Geneva" and the followup "Pimp my ST", you'll get a feel for the power of the GEM stack. Being able to upgrade parts of the stack like VDI, gives massive performance boosts.
Imagine releasing a bit of software these that that made a PC or MAC run nearly twice as fast, you'd be a billionare :-)

Your videos are exatly what I searched for. After some years away from the ST, its awesome to get up to speed again. Congrats!

NVDI is not under active development, it is just available.

I did come to that conclusion myself in the end, but it would be great if there were an official announcement, like Gribniff did
