    Love my Raphaels to bits. It also helps that I live in France, where I can get them at local art stores for like 12-16 € a pop depending on size. I am using sizes 0 - 2 for everything I do on a daily basis (not for true metallics or washes, of course, for that I use cheap synthetics I don't mind throwing away), and with proper brush care (rinse often during painting to avoid drying paint between bristles, clean with brush-soap after EVERY paint session, and once à month with brush-restorer) I only need to replace them once every year or so (I actually have a size 2 in it's 3rd year of service and still going strong). Well worth the investment imho.

    I use DaVinci's for small precise details, or freehand... but for base coating, it's AP's regiment brush all the time. Best workhorse brush for me.

    Nice information. I like the facts and the opinions for all the brushes. I agree with your conclusion on there not being "One" brush for every project. I enjoyed your style of sharing your information. Very entertaining and not dry at all. Thank you for all the info.

    So far, I use opus, windsors and raphs... have to say for detail and glazing I prefer the raphs so far (for display level stuff)... If im just doing tabletop, any brush will do

    • @ataraxiapainting
      @ataraxiapainting  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like to use good brushes for tabletop stuff as well! Personally there’s nothing more annoying than applying a basecoat with a bad brush 😑👿

      @Ataraxia Painting Studio i really hope it was just a couple bad batches and not a consistent problem, but especially for the cost in Australia, i wouldn't buy them again.

    Personally I have used every brush here and Artis Opus is the best In my opinion. They do feel weird at first especially if you come from a Raphael or davinci but the more you use it the more you get used to the way it feels and now I can’t go back to another brush and believe me at £13 a brush I’ve tried.

    • @ataraxiapainting
      @ataraxiapainting  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You know I have to completely Agree with you ahah I think artist opus might need a bit of use to get softer but after that, they are really freaking good brushes!! I just ordered a bunch of them!

    I don't know what to say about the broken toad MK3 series.
    It didn't take long for me to lose the tips on all the hairs in the size 1 brush (my most used size).
    The set cost me $130 au, expected more for that price. I just gave the remainder of the set to my son.
    He's a new painter and I think that's where they belong.
    I use Raphael 8404 these days no real issues, but even then I have received a few that had overly long leading bristles.
    I now just get the people at the art store to do one more step in QC and find the brushes without longer leading bristles.
    I cannot justify buying Winsor and newton anymore because a size 1 in AU is $50. I firmly believe that they are a good brush but definitely not $50 a brush.
    I have heard more and more that it's a crap shoot to get a good Windsor and newton as well. When I used to buy them 14 years ago by the bulk aka 4x size 2/0, 3x 0 and 2x size 1, all of them where of high quality.
    I guess what I'm saying is why pay more if it's still a risk of whether you get a good brush or not.

    • @ataraxiapainting
      @ataraxiapainting  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      WwwwwAatt?? 50$ for Windsor and Newton?? That’s too much. I mean I get it because they have a long way to travel to get to Australia. I honestly don’t even buy them anymore even if they are much cheaper here
      Stick with Raphael!!!!

    • @RW-Navigator
      @RW-Navigator 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ataraxiapainting No worries, you are only human. And i know how much work you put into this video. My "feedback" was also not really feedback looking back since its just one sentence. What I meant is 11:22. As a viewer or beginner painter i get my hopes up but you tell the viewer: the best brush does not exist. This is of course true but i think you should follow this up with your conclusions after experimenting with the brushes and pick your favorite and why you think others would have success with it instead of telling the viewer all of them are great but you have to find out for yourself. I saw what you painted in the video like the bust and it looks really good so at that point in the video i was already convinced I am going to get a good recommendation. A little later you do actually mention your favorite brush but do not elaborate. If you these arguments on why you settled on this brush the viewer is also more likely to click on the sponsor link you mention right after. The video is great but the climax just needs some adjustments and i think you would have more success.
      I also did the youtuber mini painting thing in the past but stopped since its such a large time investment. So i respect the effort and i wish you the best of luck!
