Its an Aisin AZ6, its really not designed for this much excess torque and HP. Notice how it blew up when he shifted into 4th gear? That's a known weakness with these transmissions, because of the helical gear setup, it will exert enough force above a certain torque threshold or shock load, to break the retaining clips holding 4th gear in place, which in turn allows 4th gear to come out of alignment with its drive gear, blowing up 4th gear. If you machine the retaining clip groove in the countershaft a bit deeper and wider, you can fit bigger retaining clips, which can end up much stronger than factory, at which point this transmission goes from fragile, to capable of holding upwards of 500nm of torque. Plenty of potential, just need a mod to fit bigger retainers. Some of the Silvia community just go ahead and weld the retainers to the shaft (not ideal but it works). It's also used in a few other sports cars, so people have had plenty of time to figure out how to make these stronger.
