WOW, it is 8AM, and did I ever read that wrong. I thought for a second it said "queen of murder", on the other hand "queen of thunder" makes a lot more sense.
The two chinas up top is just one is brighter than the other. Slightly different tones. In the last tour they did this year, she added a 3rd china to her kit and also a couple more splashes. She is also missing her stack that usually goes next to the ride. Also she has a few Zildjian cymbals in this kit which is not common for her, she usually goes mostly for Sabian cymbals in her Live kit, i say mostly since a couple of her splashes are Meinl. She is an absolute world class drummer that keeps this pace going for 2 hour shows! And despite power metal songs like this being a more straight forward style of drumming, she manages to keep it dynamic and not boring through her excellent cymbal usage! HARUNA!! HARUNA!! HARUNA!! 🥁🤘🙂🐺🔥🥁
I figured it was 2 different tones of China. I actually live in the Province in Canada where Sabian cymbals are made. Meinl makes fantastic percussion equipment. She does play "Outside the box" a lot for that style of music.
Haruna is the smallest and cutest metal drummer in the world. No one will believe she's a professional metal drummer when you see her smiling and reserved in her usual cute clothes :)
HER LEGS NEVER STOP MOVING JESUS FUCK. it's like they are off doing their own thing, how can someone have that much stamina??!? Her kit is like twice as big now compared to when this was recorded. if you pause on Set the World on fire you can see how big her kit has gotten.
From having played a bit of drums before, the one thing I learned is that if you try to use a flat footed technique on the bass pedals you will get tired and have to stop within a very short time. Having the Heel up, and using the fast twitch in the muscles brings the amount of effort needed to do the same thing down drastically. It is like how, if you play guitar, and learn to play Bleed from Meshuggah properly, it will change the way you play guitar.
Happy, economical, amazing stamina...a human metronome. A flawless technician and her accent work on the symbols, though rarely mentioned, is amazing. She and Kai pretty much lap the field.
I’ve heard it said that Haruna & Miyako use, “Economy of Movement”, or something like that in their art. Minimal movement and energy expended to accomplish what they want.
That is a common music term. Once you learn how to make your movements more economical, you increase the speed and skill at which you can play. When people say a musician makes it look effortless, that is Economy of Movement that got them to that point. It looks effortless, because it actually is.
yeah, so many people on various reactions claim that she is a Powerhouse, and really beats the hell out of the kit. But I've always said, no, she's not. She is a very efficient drummer. Plenty of speed, but rather delicate with the kit really. She knows how to look after her gear. Besides, how could such a sweet petit little Princess possibly hit anything very hard. He! He! God bless the little creature.

From when the live rock albums began to boom, there was always a drum solo on it. Even when the drummer wasnt that exciting. Im not a fan either, but i would love to see Haruna do one, or at least get a showcase spot. When i saw the live showing of their upcoming BD release, the drums and bass were prominent in the mix. And it seemed like they had some more camera's and switched a bit more to Haruna, without falling into the trap of switching too fast (like some western live shows)
