Quran Gey: Islamic Education or Indoctrination? | Harari Freethinkers

Does "Quran Gey", or, "Harari Quran classes", provide Harari people with an education or are they tools for indoctrination?
What is the difference between education and indoctrination?
How can one know if they had been subjected to one and not the other?
If one regularly goes to a place and meets someone who is providing them with new information, is that place a "school"? Is the one who travels to this place a "student"? Is the one sharing this information a "teacher"?
For centuries in Harar, Quran classes have been a foundational part of every Harari child's upbringing. Outside of Harar, the majority of Harari people attend Islamic classes in addition to public schooling or from a full-time private Islamic school. This is the place where one learns how to read the Quran, how to pray, the five pillars of Islam, and other foundational knowledge required to become a practicing Muslim. Many Harari people gain fond memories of attending these spaces. These places are where children make new friends, play with old friends, get praised for studying hard, and learn old stories. Some Harari people have the unfortunate memories of being verbally scolded or physically hit for being incorrect or expressing another undesirable action. Being around people of the same religious and/or ethnic background in pursuit of the same goal (Islamic knowledge) creates a comforting sense of community and belonging.
But are these places of instruction truly educational or are they places of indoctrination?
