  • Why are the Harari people Muslim?
It is commonly believed that 100% of the global Harari population adheres to Sunni Islam. But how did this come to be? No matter how far back the Harari people today can trace their ancestry, it will always end with a Muslim. There are many Harari oral histories explaining when and how Islam was introduced. As it turns out, these narratives clash with historical oral accounts and verifiable events. Thus, this video will attempt to construct an accurate sequence of historical events of the introduction, spread, adoption and preservation of Islam as they relate to the Harari people. Determining the roots of Islam in this population is also key to understanding the formation of the Harari identity. This video will conclude with an exploration of the concept of the Harari identity as it relates to Islam.

According to your narrations, up until minute 14, people called Somali are they Arab or Ethiopian? because clearly you are talking about their history when you are mentioning Ifat, Zeyla and Adal, at the same time you mentioned other names who are part of this history. I wonder why the name Somalia or Somali is not in your narrations?. Did you ever ask your self how and why did Somali people became 100% Muslim. Anyone who talk about Islam in anytime of the history unless they have an agenda in their narrations cannot avoid mentioning the word Somali. Thank you.

@@TheQuranExplainsItselfif this is not about Somalia then stop mentioning Zeyla, Ifat and Adal, all of them are Somalia history. Give your audience the full story about who was involved early Islam specifically the region you chose.

Yes, the Somali people were very important in Harari history. If the word "Somali" or "Somalia" weren't explicitly mentioned earlier, it was implied that the people were involved when, for example, Zeyla is mentioned because this city is in modern-day Somaliland. The word "Somalia" is mentioned for the first time at 17:50. Thank you for noticing this, and no, we do not have an agenda :)

Pure lies - Ahmed Gurey took Lalibela a holy city for the Ethiopians and not a single of the Church was destroyed, but the fall of Harar City and how Menelik himself climbed top of the biggest Mosque urinate.
Also Harari people are mix of the native, Muhajirun(Arabs) and Somalis.
Ifat kingdom, Adal Sultanate, and Harar Empire were all Somalis, Ahmed Gurey was Somali - poor Habashi always in denial - it's time for Oromo and for Somalis.

@@PlanetWar Somali don’t push anyone but themselves now. I don’t know* why you would say “Oromos and Somalis will push you out.” You don’t know the area if* you would say something like that.

And Harar Emirate was not Somali though Somalis were an integral part of its formation no doubt. Most if not all may have Somali ancestry and that’s not shocking in that geolocation where people have mixed around.

@@kickrocks71 Learn history first, Oromo people migrated from South West, they did tried to move into Ogaden region, but Somalis pushed them back, then Oromo people started adopting Islam and started moving to the west and into Amhara region, half of the Oromo land used to be Amhara land and today they're ruling both Amhara and Tigrays - majority must rule - salute to all the Somali brothers who died fighting TPLF terrorists in Ethiopia - we stand with the Oromo people to the end.
