I remember riding my bike to RadioShack to buy XMoDs and check to see what the new stock was ! Just found mine from my childhood 2 days ago can’t wait to let it rip ! Thanks for the video !
I’m currently moving and when me and my pops was cleaning out our old apartment, he found 13 brand new cars in his office. He used to sell them back at radio shack, I use race these cars as a kid. I’m happy got them now so I can enjoy them
I loved these as a 11 year old we actually would drag race these at school when they first came out we even had a list of the top ten fastest cars in school and it was like 50 of us that would drag race them every day what a good times it was for us kids back then
I had a friend in high school who went to an X mods tournament. He hooked and hot glued at least 6 9v batteries to his X Mod, and won the drag race high speed record of over 100mph. I want to say it was 112mph and it totally melted the motor or the board or something XD He won, but the car needed a lot of replacement parts. He also had a drift setup that was a black painted 350z with the green under glow lights. Once i saw him race these cars around the high school. I had to have one! And i did get one that Christmas. And another one layer that year. We would bring our cars to school and talk about upgrades we heard about or wanted, and just drive them around the school, inside and outside in the parking lot. These things for some reason made it cool to play with RC cars in high school and nobody said anything except, yo that's tight ! Look at how fast it goes!
X-Mods were a hoot. I'm happy for the gateway they created into this awesome Hobby! Your buddy had some sweet builds, once that I likely dreamed of when I was a kid!
Very nice to see a current video on Xmods! I though I was the only one that still had them, I probably haven’t ran them in 10 years but it’s part of my childhood and plan to give them to my son.
The amount of nostalgia thats just flushed over me is insane haha. So many hours went into customizing and re customizing these things.. Was such a cool hobby back then, just happened to find my skyline but it doesnt run Im so sad ! Not sure I know enough about them to fix it haha -
I’m currently restoring as many xmods as I can get my hands on. I have the technology to be able to keep them alive for another 20 years. The crystal in the radio will have died out long before then and they’ll still be tearing it up at the track. It’s my ultimate goal to reproduce 3D printed replacement parts and hop ups. That means replacement gear sets and metal ball bearings. That also means 2s and micro servo compatibility. I need as many as I can get, working or not.
I bought mine as probably a HS junior on a 2-hr snow delay. Ended up modding almost everything, including an alloy frame. Back in the days before internet was such a shopping place.
Sweet! XMOD's are a blast. If you want a modern version. The Kyosho Mini-Z is similar sized with available parts & upgrades. My local track put a mini course on their property for these cars!
I remember going to the Radio Shack when I was a little kid and looking at these I was so mesmerized by them I had the fire bird My parents bought it for me I was so excited😊
Man I miss those, I had the red Supra, the yellow NSX as you do and the Black R34 as you do. I purchased every hop up kit that was available even the 4wd conversion kit to make my R34 authentic.. I will love to get my hands on some more, if they become cheap again.
My mom recently moved to town and brought a bunch of my old junk that had been sitting in her basement for years. Just dug out a 1st Gen White Supra and Yellow Acura, found the case for the red Supra I had but no car, so holding out hope that's in a box somewhere. Working on them tonight.
The parts are all over 3D print heaven or something like that and there's tons of these parts available on eBay. Hopefully the purest can help keep the prices down on actually buying new xmods though
You can throw the x mods body on a wltoys k989 or k969 rc chassis with a little modification to the mounting. They’re around $65-$75 on Amazon and good little entry level hobby grade cars
I had a Gen 1 Civic Si in electric blue. My dad took me back a month later and bought me the body kit. I really wanted the awd kit. I later found my buddy had a mustang and he gave me the stage 2 motor upgrade. I wanted everything for these lol is there anything similar to these now adays? I liked the ability of personalizing. My coworker actually gave me a G35 last night with no remote. So I'm trying to buy a whole car.
I also have 3 XMODS for a long time and all they are upgraded with all CNC parts and motor available at AsiaTees . It's shame they jump off the market....
I don’t know anything about RC cars but I’m thinking about getting into the hobby. Is there any budget alternative to this today (not budget COMPARED to this but just in general)?
I love xmods! 1st one was the ford f150 2nd was the mistubishi Evo then the scion tc. I just recently bought rhe yellow skyline and a black 65 mustang to sit on the self.
I just recall them being $100. After a quick google it appears they were originally priced at about half that. $40-$50 for Car, Radio and awesome clear storage box! Ask you can see I purchased a fair amount of them in the early 2000's. Now they're models on a shelf and I'm going to be purchasing a Mini-Z to use at my local track.
decided to clean up my room thought I'd try and make the xmods work again they're been sitting on the shelf long enough. The series 2 plastic is falling apart, none of the 3 controlers work properly, can't back up, and tires are hard and braking apart. Meanwhile I'm thinking to myself really!?... the 3 first gens are beat up and do work but by time I replace a controller and whatever else is bad its not worth the hassle. I'll stick with traxxas for now on🤦♂️ I have burned up many batteries back in the day they were pretty good haven't help up great over 10 years though
That was similar to my experience. They'll make great models for the time being. If you want to relive the glory days you can get a Mini-Z. The bodies from X-Mods should fit as well!
@@MK-RC they go pretty quick on 2s lipo, the gpm parts are just so expensive at times and sometimes hard to find, honestly it’s not worth trying to build them up, might as well buy a mini z
The stock first gen and the second genes can run 7.4 lipos without burning anything up. Before lipo was around we used to run six cells in the first genes and get around 28 mph top gearing. And if you wanted a mini Z smooth type of performance and acceleration you could wire in a losi micro t ESC/radio and losi controller. Even with four normal batteries in the car the losi electronics was way better and more powerful.
I’ll never forget when I was a child about 15 years ago my dad taking me to RadioShack to buy me one. Such good memories.
Yup! My dad used to do the same. I would beg him to buy me one every time we went lol
Sounds like a similar situation to me. Saved all my money to buy as many as I could!

Hell yeah! Me too. I wish I still had mine ! 😭
great grandma got me the awd kit for mine i was so happy

A blast from the past was right ! So much fun
these were so awesome! I had quite a few myself... what a time to be alive

They're a great intro to the RC world. The Mini-Z platform is still thriving if you want to buy a new car that is very similar.

X-Mods MUST COME BACK !!!!!!
They are back but under a different name same idea
They are called hexMods
Thanks for the video. Love the 5.11 T. ABR… If you know, you Know.
I spent so many hours driving my Xmods! The R34 was my first one.
With the upgraded motors, they would absolutely move out!
I bought mine as probably a HS junior on a 2-hr snow delay. Ended up modding almost everything, including an alloy frame. Back in the days before internet was such a shopping place.
Hi I am 16 I just found one of these in perfect condition in my dads garage he gave it to me I am loving it so much
I now have 3 I found some on eBay and have a few spare parts
Sweet! XMOD's are a blast. If you want a modern version. The Kyosho Mini-Z is similar sized with available parts & upgrades. My local track put a mini course on their property for these cars!
Even after all these years I still run mine I might be able to help get your truck back up and running
I remember going to the Radio Shack when I was a little kid and looking at these I was so mesmerized by them I had the fire bird My parents bought it for me I was so excited😊
Good times!! Thanks for watching!

They sure were a hoot to play with. I was at Microcenter recently and saw a copy in the toys section.

I still have the oringinal track and 3 cars from Radio shack love em
Cool I got both large and small track and all modes...track was $100 each car was about $60 at radio shack.and none are around anymore.😊
You can throw the x mods body on a wltoys k989 or k969 rc chassis with a little modification to the mounting. They’re around $65-$75 on Amazon and good little entry level hobby grade cars
Cool video.... I have a bunch of these and a bunch on Brand New for sale on RCGroups. These were great fun and for $60 new, they were a great deal.
That's a great deal! These cars were an absolute blast. I'm happy to have my little collection still.
I miss my xmod I had a mustang fastback when I was kid 😢
They were such a hoot! My local RC Track - HuckleBerry RC, in Anaheim is building a 28th scale and under track. Should be good for Mini-Z and smaller!
I just bought a first gen GTR XMODS when I was a kid I had the H2 hummer so I down graded from then but I’m fine trying out a first gen
I just bought 4 xmods trucks I missed them ❤

I think some really great budget starter RC cars come from WLTOYS, Redcat Racing and Eachine.
I love xmods! 1st one was the ford f150 2nd was the mistubishi Evo then the scion tc. I just recently bought rhe yellow skyline and a black 65 mustang to sit on the self.
Cool, i just got mine out… could not get it running.
were they really 100 dollars new? where did you find that info at. and which one , gen 1 or gen 2? there was two xmods sold, two different kinds
I just recall them being $100. After a quick google it appears they were originally priced at about half that. $40-$50 for Car, Radio and awesome clear storage box!

I wish I could find my Evo. I found the remote. I have a c5 Corvette on the way. Going to make it match my real c5
That's sweet! Can't wait to see it!
Greenholt Mill
I have 3 r34 xmod cars with body kits
Hammes Crossing
actually there’s a guy on the fb group that made his custom one that goes 100mph
Holy smokes that's quick! I always wanted to build one with all that parts from AtomicMods.
@@MK-RC they go pretty quick on 2s lipo, the gpm parts are just so expensive at times and sometimes hard to find, honestly it’s not worth trying to build them up, might as well buy a mini z

Lemuel Isle
Dickinson Fields
Buckridge Via
Who was really into them and bought a soldering iron for a certain mod
The ones that know can leave the answer by comment
God miss those days
I forgot how noisy they wer
gen 2 blows away gen 1. Hardly any comparison. Also old real cars are far simpler to work on. You don't have to be a child to enjoy any remote hobby.
Gen 2 was definitely easier to work on. Parts were a lot more plug and play.
