Runescape shaped my life. I was home alone most of the time and playing Runescape allowed me to learn English, which allowed me to browse the internet, get interested in computer science, which I graduated. Sometimes I think about how different my life would've been if I never played this game. TY Mod Ash
Around the year 2007, one day I was in the Varrock sword shop, and randomly decided to climb the ladder and explore upstairs. Mod Ash was up there, all alone. I PMed a couple of friends after before long there were a least a dozen other players there. I'm not sure if it was an arranged meet-up or if the word just spread quickly. He was answering player questions and I remember a few things that were discussed. I remember trying to be funny and typing :: commands, and he said "There are no :: commands", and then he proceeded to teleport outside the wall of the shop, and back in again. I remember him talking about his desire to do a Dig Site expansion, and he specifically mentioned Fossil Island.
@@2swag4gulag68 if this is true, I'd presume it took so long because they were pushing rs3, and it never happened in the main game and he was only about to dedicate the resources to go back to it later on once osrs had solidified its existence.
I had completely forgotten about that 10K prize from his pocket. That's not just dedication to a community, that's straight up ridiculous. I truly think there are no game devs as involved in their communities as him, mindblowing.
@@cryptikreap795yeah they didn’t. Mat said that even though he was disappointed in woox for even taking the money from ash when he knew like he was competing in the manner he knew was designed to be played for the tourney and knew ash came out of his own pocket and that even though mat disagreed a mod should have to come out of his own pocket 10k which is a lot of money, that he tried to get them to reimburse ash for that because regardless of your stance on that situation or ash paying woox which most people I guess seemed to agree woox won and should have gotten paid for finding a way to sort of get around the design , there was a huge backlash in the community and jagex was taking a lot of flak for it and mod ash personally paying that money alleviated some of that tension and so I think even if ash did go against what the old school team felt should have happened with woox , like what he did sort of calmed the storm and backlash and he should have been reimbursed
I know a lot of the discourse surrounding him online is mostly memes and jokes, but you can't help but like the dude. He engages with the community almost 24/7, understands the game in a way really nobody else currently at Jagex does, he's multitalented (great writer, solid programmer, great music composer) and he's either super interesting or downright hilarious (extremely dry sense of humor) in interviews.
God ash is intertwined with all our childhoods and also apart off all of our adulthoods now. He's been a swell lad for years and years. Kudos to him for making RS/OSRS what it is today.
This needs to get more views. Ash is the definition of quality care in game development. From answering questions on Q&A's or twitter, to the countless years he has spent developing content. Here's to him getting added to the game himself someday.
Just listening to Mod Ash is just wonderful. The man is so articulate in everything he does and says and it's just an absolute blessing to be able to conversate with him and find his insight into various topics.
what a king! his twitter game is amazing both informative and great at taking a joke and getting involved with banter.. we really lucked out having such a great moderator in our game

Ash has achieved almost God like status amongst RS players. He is easily one of the most influential devs to work on the team, and is without a doubt the communities favorite mod. From his genuine interactions with players, to adding great game updates, this man will never be forgotten by RS players. Seriously a legend.
The fact that he has pretty much been through it all and has remained to be the best thing for OSRS makes me feel so happy. I really hope he never leaves, that will be a very sad day. To the legend GOD Ash!!!!
WE LOVE MOD ASH!! The man came to my clans 1 year anniversary party ingame this year and he’s a hoot. Love this man for salvaging my life and childhood
Ash is a treasure. Took time out of his evening to help with de ironing my ironman back in 2015. Simply just didn't have to respond or help me but he chose to help.
I just hope that if Mod Ash is ever feeling down, he comes back to this video and sees how utterly, unconditionally beloved he is by this community and it cheers him up.
This man definitely deserves his fame. Just the fact he has answered so damn many tweets through the years (many of them even being ones that were obviously made just to fuck with him, lmao.) Might unironically just be one of the most impressive feats in internet history,
I liked him ever since they started doing those OSRS streams back in the day. What really solidified my admiration for Ash was when he gave Woox 10k irl from that tournament thing (I've been OOL on OSRS for a long time so I've forgotten the name). He was honestly an absolute legend for doing that, massive respect.
This is going to be the most important comment i have ever left on a youtube video ever. No game i have ever played has left the mark on me the way runescape did. I think for anybody who understands the games nostalgia realizes its almost impossible to recreate in words, the feeling this game gave you as a child. I have so many, too many memories to type out here, but what i will say is that this game holds a very special place in my heart. Honestly enough, i will probably never forget this game, right up until my last breath. I have such a strong reaction; a strong feeling to this video not necessarily because of the Ash aspect, but of the god damn game as a whole. I speak for many i am sure, when i say that i hope this game thrives for many more decades.
I've always respected Mod Ash's dedication. His Twitter presence is amazing, he gives it so much attention I can hardly believe he can get anything else done in the work day. But I've just got even more respect for him, hearing the story about how he paid Woox that $10,000 *out of his own pocket* after Woox was denied the top prize in the Dead Man Mode tournament. Did I say Mod Ash? Obviously I meant to say GOD Ash! Respect to the guy!
Ash may actually the most respected developer out there. Most if not all of the community love him and his work. Thank you ash, you are what we all want in a game dev

Funny story, when my mother was pregnant with me in the 90s, she was high on coke and buscapan and driving at 60 mph on a 40 lane, she got pulled over, the police man said "licence and registration please maam" right then and there she went into labour! The police man swiftly dragged my mother out the car and performed a C section on her right in middle of a busy highway. When I looked up at the police man after I was born I said..."dad is that you"? And the police man said "no my name is mod ash" I was stunned. Mod ash gave birth to me via a C section. He left the police force after that incident and joined jagex.
I travelled to Cambridge the other month, and saw mod Ash in a restaurant. He was maybe 1-2ft away from me through a window. I was going to knock and show some love, but he was with friends so I left him in peace. I was starstruck. I saw the gigachad.
