This video does a magnificent job of capturing the almost mystical beauty of the northern loop trail, from the trees, vegetation, cliffs, greenery, streams, waterfalls, mystic lake, Winthrop and Carbon Glaciers, mountain goats, wildflowers, Grand Park, Yellowstone Cliffs, and of course Tahoma herself. Really beautiful and finely crafted film. Well done!
Holy crap. You did it again for me. Your Grand Loop Trail video helped set my upcoming agenda in the Olympics and now this video as part of our trip if we can't secure the Wonderland Trail lottery. What a beautiful and fantastic alternative. Thank you so much for the inspiration!
SOOO beautiful and well done! I presume you actually stayed at Mystic Camp, and walked to the lake for scenic meals? Because they haven't allowed camping at Mystic Lake itself in years after it bore the brunt of too much love!
Thank you for the comment. Yes, you are correct. I stayed down below in the Mystic Camp. I agree with the sign at the Ranger Station "Why can't I camp at Mystic Lake?". It keeps the lake beautiful for all who visit.
Great video......I was just thinking about this hike.....as my first ever trip out west.....was glad to find that you had a video....do you think it is too tough for a medium grade backpacker......im used to the Smokies and other Appalachian grade trails but this is definately a level up for me....? Thanks for all of the wonderful videos......I enjoy the scenery but also the equipment clips you sprinkle in....!!!
Thanks for that feedback on the videos. I think you'd be fine on this loop given the experience you mentioned. You could always add an extra day to lessen the daily gain if needed. I really enjoyed this loop, hope you get to experience it. The other loop to consider is the Eastside Loop. It covers my favorite section of the Wonderland. Happy Trails!
@@cascadiahiking Thanks so much for responding and also for the Eastside Loop...I am kind of taking shots in the dark to plan a good first trip but have know first hand knowledge.....once again ...many thanks
You might try catching sunrise at sunrise. It’s epic, unforgettable. From there, there are many excellent hikes. We are lucky to live so close to a park as beautiful as MRNP. Cheers!
Sorry if I missed it, when was the hike? I have a permit for this loop (CCW, Camp James and Mystic Camp) for the first weekend in October. Did you pick up your permit the day before? I was hoping to get the permit at 7:30 when white river RS opens, but wish I could do it earlier. Any tips would be great!
Hi Stephen, I did the loop the second week of September. I did pick up my permit the day before since I stayed at Sunrise Camp before I actually started the loop. You should be able to pick up the permit the day before. You could try staying at Sunrise Camp if there is availability. There is a good lookout near camp to catch Sunrise (the beginning montage of the video were all taken there). Fremont lookout is nearby and would by a great spot to catch sunset. The infrastructure at Rainier is great. Trails are well maintained, good bridges, toilets at each camp, bear poles to hang your food. You're in for a treat, I really enjoyed this loop and I'm sure you will too. Bring a warm sleeping bag and down puffy, it can get cold at night at certain camps. Sunrise was really cold, the other two camps were fine. Have fun!

Many thanks @chrisreeve1774! I found myself pulling out my camera so much on this loop. There is so much beauty in MRNP.
Love the absence of narrative. Amazing video!!!
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Cheers!
Incredible footage once again. Well done 👍
wow. you captured the essence and beauty perfectly. thank you for sharing.
Thank you very much!
Such beautiful scenery, you did a great job showing the beautiful scenery.
Thank you very much!
Beautiful landscape!
It really is!

Great to hear! Yeah the Northern Loop is fantastic.
Beautiful hike. Also, we definitely need an update to the 2022 gear video!
Thanks @alexsavin3173. I plan on doing an updated gear video after the next video of the Wonderland Trail!
I love your videos so far! Those gaiters look awesome, what brand are they? 🙏
Thanks, the gaitors are from DirtyGirl Gaitors. I really like the smaller size gaiters for summer when there is no snow.

Great trip and video. Nice manageable sized loop. What is the permit system for that loop? TH self-issue, or reso only? Thxs.
This is reservation only via recreation.gov or walk in at the wilderness information centers. Thanks!

Need to do this with the kid, we see Rainer almost everyday but haven't yet visited her.
