    Fantastic. Love it. I to am a Gas Work Lad . Born Ayr st Salford 5 next to Regent road Gas works with a Croft at the end. Great Childhood . Proud of you. It touched me.👏🤝

    The killer verse in all of McColls songs are the last. The song (for me) is a cry for social regeneration. Something that only REALLY happened 40 years later. The changes in the 60s were about de -industrialisation "I'll chop you down"

    As a teenager i used to go to a folk club over Burtons and heard it there by a bloke who said that he wrote it???
