Social media has destroyed how we judge players, back in the day they could have bad games without a bunch of idiots reducing their whole career down to that game. It's more nuanced than that. Are there bad opinions on football Twitter, Yes- Yes, there are. But we have so much stats to also back up how good said player is. Footbal Twitter is shit takes and people with common sense, but Humans will remember the shit takes than the actual decent takes
Football Twitter also responsible for ruining youngsters career before they even achieved anything cuz they're hyping up literally every up and coming academy kids as "future stars" cuz of their bias instead of their actual talents thus putting unnecessary pressure to their careers that just barely started

This doesnt even just effect the person theyre talking about, it has a knock on effect and is the reason people who are LGBTQ+ for example, are either to scared to play football or come out to their teammates. Ive known girls who enjoy football and want to play, but will not for the fear that they will be discriminated and disliked.
This isn’t totally true. A lot of clubs (Rangers, Lazio, and even Real Madrid to an extent) were founded by groups associated with alt-right movements. A second reason for this is that the most vocal minority of bad actors are very active on social media. The majority of football fans are very accepting of diversity in the football world, or at least don’t obsess over race or political orientation like the online trolls. The “teenage fanboys” might be a small part of the problem, but they aren’t the main issue.
Twitter itself is weird. add football in the mix & things can be disastrous.
