Ladies and gentlemen Chris Squire and Yes the greatest show on earth. Saw Yes 36 times over forty yrs. These songs before you start listening to their symphonic masterpieces. Heart Of The Sunrise, South Side Of The Sky, Perpetual Change, Yours Is No Disgrace were all recorded in 70-71. Album versions ALWAYS first. Enjoy the Yes journey and I'll be riding shotgun. 🙏🍁

Whenever you listen to YES, strap yourself in for a mind trip.
Don't pay close attention to the lyrics, just go where the sound takes you.
The journeys may seem somewhat long (7+ mins) and may wind through some strange and scary places, but they'll always leave you in a better, more aware, place/mood afterwards.
(A bit of reefer don't hurt.)
"Starship Trooper" (as well as "it's Your Move/All Good People" and "Yours Is No Disgrace", from the same LP) are three of the earliest masterpieces of progressive rock, as are their next 3 albums; "Close to the Edge", "Fragile", and "Relayer" are wall-to-wall bangers.

Dude why is your tongue blue? BTW! this is EARLY 70's, 1970 to be precise & more akin to late 60's music BUT still advanced & when Progressive Rock was just beginning to define itself as a genre unto its own. And YES has a lot to do with that, as it's leading virtuoso innovators. The impossible thing to understand is that, from here on from 1971-1979, YES music grew even more complex, longer, intricate, intense, groundbreaking, unbelievably innovative and groundbreaking. They kept getting better by leaps and bounds. I hope you continue to learn why many consider them to be the GREATEST CREATIVE MODERN MUSICIANS EVER during that decade and even gifted by some indescribable Force!!! Their album CLOSE TO THE EDGE album will take you to a place that you never seen or known! Also ' Don't sing, please LOL!

In 1972 Yes was just breaking Big in the states. Saw them when they opened for Jethro Tull in Dallas at Memorial Auditorium. After all the years that have passed, great memories.

I vote for "Awaken" next. YES is the greatest progressive rock band in my opinion. I just subscribed. I subscribe to anyone who reacts to them. Loads of greats including "Roundabout", "Awaken", "The Gates of Delirium", "Close to the Edge", "And You and I", "Turn of the Century", "Starship Trooper", "Perpetual Change", "The Revealing Science of God", lots more.

Like how Dyce plays into the futuristic aspect of Yes, wonder when the divine will appear to him.

The live version from the 1973 Yessongs album is the greatest one!!! In my opinion!

Definitely do Yes in chronological order by album. You get to see their development that way. That said, live Yes kicks it, so try to do some live versions, even if they’re from later dates than the original song. Stellar musicians at every position.
If this somehow reminds you of 80s or 90s music, that’s because they were so innovative and influential that one could take just one of their new ideas and expand it into an entire genre.
The choice of lyrics is mostly based on their acoustic and emotional vibe. They take you on a journey. You mentioned on your Roundabout reaction that it must’ve been produced ‘for something’ like to go with certain visuals. No, that’s just their musical, emotional, and spiritual storytelling freeing up your mind to whatever visuals you want to associate with it.
Great reaction, too. We can tell you’re really getting into it.
Check out other 70’s prog rock too, like Genesis, King Crimson, …
Yes has been my favorite band since I first discovered the album Fragile around ‘76. (It now shares that honor with SRV and Double Trouble, who excel at a whole different genre…blues.)
