Oh my… the steps! Love hearing I’m not alone on placing things there! I do always make myself carrying something up - NEVER permitted to just walk past! 🎉
I always make my bed as soon as I’m out of it, which isn’t anything more than straightening the duvet and putting the pillows at the top - no throw pillows. I have a little tray by the front door where I immediately drop my keys as soon as I’m inside (and if I’m coming home from work, my work lanyard and watch). I don’t have stairs. In New Zealand, it’s the custom not to wear shoes inside the house - your own or as a guest. I have a raised shelf by the door that I put my shoes on when I’m inside, and underneath serves as the cat feeding station, so that the cat stuff is out of the way. I have a pair of garden wellies by the back door for when I’m gardening or going out to feed the chooks each day. The tellie remote and stereo remote fit perfectly on one end of the sofa, alongside a wooden decoupaged Kleenex box, that’s just where they live. The couch is a one-piece unit with two pillows on either end, it’s always “made”. Coats, sweaters and jackets are hung up as I come through the door, hooks right there. My work backpack gets dropped in the kitchen so I can refill my lunch box and sort out whatever papers need attention for the next day, then gets put right in front of the door so that I don’t forget it when I leave for work in the morning. I have a sponge by the kitchen sink, an old face flannel on the bathroom sink, and a bigger scrubby thing in the bathtub so that I can give the tub a quick swipe around every time I take a shower, ditto the sink. My bathroom is tiny, so the only drawer I have is a mini cabinet by the tub, and everything except my toothbrush, toothpaste in a glass, and a stick of deodorant is on the sink, because I use them every day. My nightstand(s) - one for each side of the bed, even though I’m single - doubles as my medicine chest, because there isn’t one in the bathroom, and I usually take any medications I need at bedtime. On the nightstand is another decoupaged wooden Kleenex holder, a couple nice little wooden boxes where I keep medications I need every night, a cup of water with a crocheted “cap” to keep bugs, dust and the cat out of it, whatever book I’m reading, and my mobile phone / alarm clock. I have a small journal, but that’s for recording medical notes (don’t need to go into those, nothing serious, just monitoring). SO WHY IS MY HOUSE STILL SO MESSY???
Thank you so much for sharing 💕 it sounds like you have a beautiful home. From my experience it might be that you have a very low threshold for clutter (just like me) I have found that most people don’t need to have as little as me but when I have more I am overwhelmed. Revisit places in your house bringing you stress and take away another 3-5 things every week. Then feel it out and stop when you feel like you have control and less stress in that area 💕 just my thoughts best of luck friend!!
Have adopted most of these habits already and yes! They totally help! I also always wash the dishes before heading to bed but they don't always get dried or put away... I have 5 littles and pregnant with #6... But at least they are clean for breakfast! Truly appreciate the reminders! We have a gratefulness journal that I do with the children every morning at breakfast. We fill in all the things and people we are thankful for the day prior. It helps us all to take time as a family to reflect, get our hearts in a grateful space and has totally helped to Change our focus when sometimes we wake up with a bad start to the morning. Definitely worth investing in!
Oh yes it's a game changer as far as keeping things off the floor. This also includes furniture and just cutie pie crap ! Now before I buy something furniture wise etc . I think how quickly I'm going to tire of moving it to sweep , vacumn or mop .

I don’t put a lot of pillows on my bed or my couch anymore… I do have a few but, I change them every so often to change up the room. I used to have so many that it would take forever to undo the bed or put them back on when I was making the bed… lol 😂 we take off our shoes when they are really dirty. Also, we do the laundry and then put it away as soon as they’re ready to hang up in the closet or drawers. I also check each room as I go down the hallway and if I see something out of place, I put it away. This way… if someone comes over, I don’t freak out about what my house looks like 👍 🥰🌻
These are all great ideas😊 Thank you! Getting rid of the extra blankets and decorative pillows for our bed was a game changer. I used to HATE making our bed because of all of the extra steps I used to have to go through! We started the no shoes allowed in the house when our first baby was born. It would gross me out thinking of all the germs tracked in when our kids were lying on the floor, learning to crawl, etc. All of our guests know to remove their shoes when coming into our house too. Our kids are 18 and 21 now and we still practice this habit lol. The less I have to wash the floors the better lol. Enjoy your weekend❤❤❤
I put keys in my purse it's a habit so I do it automatically. I used to making bed as mom use to make us do it lol but also when I go to bed at night the bed looks great! When I didn't make bed it made room feel messy.ty for video.
These are simple and yet impactful to daily life❤. The keys was the worst 😮 until I placed that hook by my door and keep them on a bracelet (plastic coil) key holder if I forget them on hook they still attached to wrist and can only be taken off by the hook! Silly me I have gotten so use to them on wrist get ready to leave again only to realize they have been with me all this time 😅. Loved other suggestions too ❤
I recently started keeping a swedish dishcloth under my sink so throughout the day I wipe everything down. It really helps a lot for keeping the bathroom from getting so gross 😊
I have learned to do most of these over time. One tip that will help to keep clutter at bay: end tables, coffee tables, or any side table with drawers. Before I go out or go to bed, I put “whatever” back in the drawers.
It's not really an American thing to take off shoes indoors… but I really wish it was. My whole family takes their shoes off and it helps to cut down on dirt and debris in the home.
As a Canadian living in a culturally Japanese household I find it very odd to not take off your outdoor shoes. You can always wear slippers of just indoor shoes
I thinkbthe point of a " day blanket" you put over your bed is to protect it, when you sit down on it during the day, so you don't get your outside clothes in your bed...? So, for me that is still something I do. And then I need some pillows I use when I read at night. And, yeah...
That’s great. It’s about finding what is right for you. I would never tell anyone they shouldn’t have or should have something, because we all have different needs and perspectives. I just share my opinion and what works for me because when I was overwhelmed in my home I needed to hear how others overcame their clutter. Take what works, try something out of your norm, and leave the rest 💕
@@minimalease I know, just wanted to share my perspective - and the fact that the question where to put the day blankets and pillows at night is still a dilemma...
Laughed out loud about the keys - I actually resorted to using a carabiner affixed to my purse. So easy to clip it and forget it, can put the keys in it while walking to and from the store, the garage, etc. Keys - omg!
I keep a rag too I hang it off the side of the sink on a hook, it’s hidden and I keep spray too nearby. Agree I have to put everything away in the bathroom.
♥ I just spent the last few evenings decluttering and loading up my car to donate items to a yard sale fundraiser. A local animal rescue is trying to raise money for some cats in need of dental work. 😸
Your channel has given my brain a break! The over consumption is wild on social media. We recently moved and lost 80% of our belongings. I found myself wanting to rebuy everything but in a stylish way 😂 however, I’ve become paralyzed with decision fatigue. Here we are six months later and still don’t have chairs to sit on, not even a sofa. I can’t decide what to get. At this point, just get neutral, minimal items and go from there. I don’t want to waste money on junk so I keep waiting thinking maybe this will go on sale…maybe I’ll wait now until the holidays sales…meanwhile myslef and children are sitting on plastic bins to eat dinner. Yes, it’s that ridiculous. So thank you for sharing that you don’t have to have everything perfect, it needs to work and be functional for your families needs.
I’ve had this one for years it’s just one from target but I’m looking for a new one because this one has seen better days haha I’ll let u know if I find a good one!
I don’t see the link for the journal . There are two what’s the difference between the pro light weekly monthly journal vs the pro weekly monthly journal. Which one do you have? Thank you
I also like to take off my shoes by the door as soon as I get home and switch into house shoes. Do you ask company to take their shoes off? I like the idea, but I've never been able to ask people to do that.
@@Shiryone In Germany it's quite normal to ask people to take their shoes off. Actually normally they do it by themselves. So don't be afraid just ask.
I ask all visitors to take off their shoes and I have shoe covers for those who don't want to do so, though that's rare. Reason is I have 2 cats who are allergic to everything. This really helps decrease allergens in the house.
I don't expect perfection either but easier would be great cause I've always been very capable active and independent but now older retired and with health and mobility issues I find my home truly overwhelming. PS why do you yell all the time could you try talking
I’ve heard that before, and it’s not that I disagree for some homes and in some areas but in our area it is not something I am concerned about and we have an extra lock on the door at the top. My hand can barely fit through it but If they break through all our locks their just going to be in our house 🤪
What quick habit helps you keep your house tidy?? ❤❤
Totally done with throw pillows, and the floors & surfaces are lava! 🔥
Oh my… the steps! Love hearing I’m not alone on placing things there! I do always make myself carrying something up - NEVER permitted to just walk past! 🎉
I always tidy the kitchen and do a quick reset before bed. A tidy kitchen makes getting up in the morning so much better.
