Opening the curtains and making the bed went from a chore to a lovely part of my morning routine over the course of a few weeks. Such an easy but defined way to start the day. That's the power of habit: once I got used to it, it's almost not something I even think about when I do it.

    • @HaleyVillena

I put my house to bed every night… I straighten and put everything in its place. I get the coffee pot ready too. It’s nice to get up in the morning to a neat home and smell the coffee brewing ❤️
I just started to do a whole house declutter too. It’s going slow but ok. I retired 2 years ago and now hubby and I realize we need to down size so the decluttering is key.
Thank you for all your great tips, I’ll tune in for more 🌺

    • @HaleyVillena
      @HaleyVillena  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

I love the way you phrased “putting your house to bed”! I agree, it is so lovely waking up to a prepared space. Slow decluttering is often better/more intentional I find. Thanks for your encouragement and good luck with your decluttering 🥰

With the bed thing, I think its good practice to allow the space to breathe (its also Italian culture). When I wake up I open the bed up completely and open a window. Usually I let it air for 30mins then I make the bed. Even, if you have a balcony or juliet in the bedroom, its good to put the duvet there to air out. The basket for random items is a great idea that I'll be taking too.

    • @HaleyVillena
      @HaleyVillena  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +22

Yes absolutely! I’ve actually been doing this for a few years, not exactly 30 minutes but I wait until after freshening up to make it 🙌🏽 thanks for sharing this for everybody!

Don't know if this will help but for anyone who gets grossed out by tasks - I have clean kitchen gloves and dirty so for like washing up I use clean but taking the bins out, sorting the strainer in the sink I use the dirty and I can disinfect them both but I feel less procrastination towards these tasks

When I was younger, I hated chores. One was dishes of course. My Dad explained to me that when you’re done using the sink it’s good to rinse out the food (and trap if you have one) then run the disposal with a little cleaner. He said, “it’s kinda like a toilet, you gotta flush when you’re done”. Once I got older I was like, oh my gosh that’s the best way to put it 😂 As far as the video, this is the best cleaning video out there! Mondays are my deep clean days, then the rest of the week I do these little ‘maintenance’ cleaning tips and it honestly makes housework a piece of cake because it’s never really messy. It’s just touch up cleaning and so nice!

  • @KELLYKH

great tips!! thank you. My problem is I get sidetracked so easily. I'll try to clean the kitchen and then all the sudden I see something in the living room, and then I see something in bathroom, and so on and so forth. So what works for me is I set a time, whether that's a podcast episode or a Spotify playlist or however long my dinner is in the oven, and I just clean for that amount of time with no focus. Whatever comes into my mind or sight within that time is what I clean. I found I was stressing myself out by only focusing on one room, so with this method I find myself so much more productive.

Same, I have ADHD so it's really difficult to just mundanely clean everything in some order. I usually do so during a big cleaning day once a week, but on a day to day basis I just let myself relax and clean whatever my eyes drop onto. It's still much better to do something than nothing at all!

my fave tip for keeping things tidy (i’m the least tidy person my age i know of lol but it works when i do it) is if it takes less than 5 minutes to do - just do it. like if you have dishes in your room, just go put them in the sink. it takes 30s. I just have been so lazy lately and mentally drained that i haven’t been doing it lately but definitely helps me when i’m not feeling like this

I do several of these habits. My problem is too much stuff. Collecting too many things. I’ve been trying to downsize & have been donating things. I sold on eBay for a few years. Getting rid of things is hard. More clutter seamed to happen over the past 3 years trying to recover from 5 surgeries. 3 back surgeries, hip replacement, & a bleeding problem. As I get older, I feel the need more and more to keep things clean. Part of that is finding ways to make cleaning tolerable for me, cause if something is gross to clean, like the sink strainer, I don't want to do it. So I got some disposable sink drain nets so that I don't have to touch anything gross or scrub the strainer (cause stuff would get stuck in the holes all the time). Instead, I can just grab the edge of the net and pull it out and throw it straight into the trash, no real cleanup required. Super big life saver lol

🤔 when I heard you say this one word…I had to go back to your channel page and see if you live in Canada - which you do 😁 As a fellow Canadian living in the USA, when I have called the garbage disposal a “Garburator” (sp) people would look at me quizzically wondering what in the world was I talking about! My husband admits that for a couple years when we were first married, he had no idea what my sweet Mum (who was down visiting) was talking about when she talked about the “chesterfield” - hilarious! There are certain words used in Canada that aren’t used in the USA. 😆😆😆

FYI- hand washing dishes wastes MUCH MORE WATER than running the dishwasher partially full.
A dishwasher cycle uses less than 4 gallons water and handwashing typically uses 4 gallons every minute.
Regardless of how many or how few dishes I have- after dinner I run the dishwasher EVERY NIGHT!!

The process of selling, donating, organizing, and repairing items, along with maintaining the yard, can be time-consuming and overwhelming when clean habits haven’t been ingrained. This is even more challenging for people dealing with health or mental issues, or those who struggle to survive financially and spend most of their time working. It’s a lot easier to maintain an already clean home. Growing up in a hoarder-like environment, I sought inspiration from numerous videos and audiobooks to deal with the situation and moved to a new smaller house that was more manageable. While there has been a drastic improvement, I am now decluttering for a second time to refine the organization. I’m consistently learning how to improve my habits. It's important to be patient and understanding as this struggle is not a choice but a genuine struggle for many.

Thanks for sharing 👍🏽 but having teens & preteen boys good luck. All makes sense. You will be doing a lot of talking 👄.

The messaging is good, but the uptalk is distracting

My kids are literally blind to counter/sink/stove mess. I will not be visiting them when they're adults.

Why on earth you don't air a bit your clothes before putting back in the wardrobe

Great point! We only really do this if our items have a strong smell from cooking/restaurants - but our wardrobes are also fairly spacious and allow for a bit of air flow 🙌🏽

I do all my house work early in the morning, starting with laundry then the dishes,
Then the dusting and window washing, then the bathroom, then I sweep & mop the floors.
I have no carpeting, its all tile flooring.
    I love it.
    Once I have everything finished,
I have the rest of the day for some peaceful ME time.🫶
Regarding my windows and door's, I never have them open,
I never even open my curtains.
    Why?
Because due to the extremely high crime rate, & getting worse,
Just never now when there could be a criminal lurking around the windows & doors.
I never put my safety at risk.🫶👍
