- The DIFFERENT musical is based on a collection of some heart breaking stories. They are stories about the social injustice that is happening all around us. It deals with issues that are facing our society today. Such as, bullying, killing, mental illness, suicide, homeless, discriminations, racism, sexual assaults, Global Warming/Climate Change and the environment.
It touches on the impact of the Me Too Movement and why it does not go far enough. It talks about serving the poor through non-profit organization like "Doctors without Borders" and " The Equality Effect".
It shares the tragic stories of victims of bullying and honour the memory of all kids that are/were bullied. Their names and other specifics are changed to protect the victims' identities. Some have taken their own lives because they did not know how to cope with their environment while some have been horrifically killed by their bullies.
Bullying needs to be stopped. It has taken way too many beautiful souls. We all need to speak out and take a stand against bullying. It is not going away until we all care and speak out. My heart goes out to all the victims and their families. We hope to make a difference in our battle against bullying, killing, mental illness, suicide, homeless, discrimination, racism, sexual assaults, Global Warming and the environment through this musical.
Here are just a handful of the heartbreaking, painful stories I'd like to share:
On Oct 7, 2019, Shari-Ann Sullivan Selvey watched her 14-year-old son, Devan Selvey stabbed to death outside of his high school, the Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School in Hamilton, Ont.
She said bullying had been an ongoing issue ever since his son started high school in September 2019. She said Devan had a beautiful soul. He protected everybody. He stood up to everything that was wrong. He was just a very passionate kid.
On Sept. 6, 2011, Mitchell Wilson, from Pickering, Ontario, who had muscular dystrophy. committed suicide at age 11 because he was afraid to testify against his bullies in court the next day. What makes this story more tragic is that the bullies were found not guilty due to insufficient evidence.
On Sept. 16, 2019, Diego Stolz, a 13-year-old Moreno Valley, California boy, died more than a week after being punched in an attack by two boys.
On Oct. 2012, 15 year old Amanda Michelle Todd, hanged herself at her home in Port Coquitlam, B.C. after being blackmailed into exposing her breasts via webcam and of being bullied and physically assaulted.
On Sept 9, 2013, Rebecca Ann Sedwick, a beautiful 12 yrs old girl from Florida killed herself because she can't take any more bullying.
On Sept. 8, 2013, Cyber-bullying claimed another victim. Todd Loik killed himself just a few days before his 16th birthday. He was excited about taking his driver's test on his 16th birthday, Sept. 20. And he had showed his mom pictures of his favourite car he hoped to drive someday, a classic Buick Skylark.

My own view, is that many of the problems you've mentioned stem from 'Social media'.
While many of the problems have always been with us, Social Media allows the platform
to extend everywhere. The Internet is a wonderful thing, useful for learning, keeping in
contact, and doing many things online without having to travel. But there is a huge
undercurrent of problems that Social media allows to happen. IT NEEDS CONTROLLING.
