This is my new and improve version of Canon in D, Version 2.0, with emphasis on the Cello, Violin and flute solo parts. I've learned to appreciate these beautiful instruments especially especially the cello. I just really love the sound of a deep cello.
"Pachelbel's Canon in D," also known as "Canon and Gigue in D major," is one of the most famous pieces of Baroque music, composed by Johann Pachelbel.
The exact date of composition of Canon in D is not known, but it is generally believed to have been composed around 1680-1706. This estimation is based on the style of the music and the period during which Pachelbel was active and at the height of his creative powers.
Johann Pachelbel composed the piece while he was living in Germany. He spent a significant part of his career in various German cities, including Erfurt, Stuttgart, and Nuremberg. It is most likely that he composed the Canon in D during his time in one of these cities, with Nuremberg being a strong candidate as he spent his later years there.
The specific reason for the composition of Canon in D is not documented. However, it is believed that it was composed for a particular occasion, possibly a wedding. During the Baroque period, it was common for composers to write music for special events, and the joyful and celebratory nature of the Canon suggests it may have been intended for such an event. The Canon is structured as a three-part canon with a ground bass, a form that was popular for its simplicity and elegance, fitting for a ceremonial occasion like a wedding.
Pachelbel's Canon in D became widely known and loved much later, particularly in the 20th century, and it remains a popular choice for weddings and other celebrations today.
Johann Pachelbel was born on September 1, 1653, in Nuremberg, Germany. His father, Johann (Hans) Pachelbel, was a wine dealer, which provided the family with a stable and relatively prosperous environment.
• Pachelbel received his early musical training in Nuremberg. He was a highly talented student and showed an early aptitude for music. His initial education included studies at the St. Lorenz Hauptschule, a grammar school in Nuremberg.
• Recognizing his talent, his family supported his further musical education. Pachelbel became a pupil of Heinrich Schwemmer, who was an organist and music teacher. Schwemmer introduced Pachelbel to the fundamentals of music and composition.
• Pachelbel continued his musical education with Georg Caspar Wecker, another prominent Nuremberg musician and composer. Under Wecker's guidance, Pachelbel refined his skills in composition and organ playing.
• In 1669, Pachelbel enrolled at the University of Altdorf, where he continued his general education. However, due to financial difficulties, he left after less than a year.
• Pachelbel then attended the Gymnasium Poeticum in Regensburg. Here, he became a student of Kaspar Prentz, a former student of Johann Caspar Kerll. Prentz's influence introduced Pachelbel to the Italian style of music, which was highly influential in his later works.
• In 1673, Pachelbel moved to Vienna, where he became the deputy organist at the Saint Stephen Cathedral. This position allowed him to immerse himself in the rich musical culture of the Austrian capital and interact with prominent musicians and composers.
• Pachelbel later held various positions in different cities, including Eisenach, Erfurt, Stuttgart, and Gotha, before returning to Nuremberg in 1695, where he remained for the rest of his life.
Pachelbel's music reflects the influence of his teachers and the various musical styles he encountered throughout his life. His works are characterized by their clarity, balance, and inventive use of counterpoint. Pachelbel was particularly renowned for his contributions to keyboard music, especially for the organ.
He is best known today for his "Canon in D," but during his lifetime, he was esteemed for his chorale preludes and fugues, which were widely admired and influenced subsequent composers, including Johann Sebastian Bach, who was acquainted with Pachelbel's music through his brother, Johann Christoph Bach, a former student of Pachelbel.
Pachelbel's upbringing and education provided a solid foundation for his successful career as a composer and musician, and his works continue to be celebrated for their beauty and technical mastery.
Hope you will enjoy this harmonious version of Canon. Please remember to wear your headphones, it sounds a whole lot better. With all the news about wars and unrest all over the world. I wish that all of earth inhabitants would live in peace. Now, that would be really music to my ears.
May you have love, peace and happiness all year round.

Dear Yokhan. Well now. It's been awhile But this unique and melodious arrangement has certainly been well worth the wait 🎵 🎵 🎶 I believe that Pachelbel is smiling down- nodding his head in blissful agreement. Meanwhile the Angelic host has joined the chorus Even I am singing melody. And all is well I love the fact that you include background information in English- as it helps enrich the cinematic experience. So Pachelbel's dad was a fairly affluent wine merchant. And this enabled young Pachelbel to attend the finest schools. I had no idea that Pachelbel. actually inflenced Bach. Now THAT'S something!! I wonder just how many brides this summer are going to walk the aisle to Canon in D? Will they even realize that Pachelbel. wrote it? Maybe not. But WE will. And I thank you dear Yokhan for giving us this amazing arrangement and providing the BEST of Baroque ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.
