    A little about ww2 re-enactment in the UK, the first large group in the UK were the WW2 Battle Reenactment Association formed in about 1978. They had British infantry and airborne, German infantry and a PG unit, American infantry and airborne units.
    The VAST majority of uniforms, equipment and weapons were original. Weapons were often bored out to smooth bore to comply with law. I joined in 1982 as a 19 year old and have had a love of military history to this day.

    those are not all garands, but m1903 bolt action rifles, which along with the trench gun i guess is for early Pacific campaigns, where the marines weren't yet issued Garands.

    The Sd.Kfz 251 is the C version, used from 1941 to 1944 approx. The A version (ausf. A) was pretty much only used during the Poland invasion. The B was mainly used in 1940 in the invasion of France and the low countries, although it was used in greece and north africa as well, and some specimens survived until later in the war.

    German uniforms actually did noticeably change over the years. The M1936 coat had a dark green collar which the later uniforms didn't, the M1942 did away with the pleating (That little fold of cloth on their pockets) and the M1943 replaced the scalloped pocket flaps with a straight cut. The Germans in the "Later war" kits are really more early-mid war.
    But they could be used for anything past Barbarossa really. Germans didn't turn in their uniforms as soon as the new ones came out. You'd find guys with grey pants, M1936 jackets and jackboots. Rarely on the same guy, though.

    just a little addendum:
    Grenadiers were not Panzer support troops, those were the Panzergrenadiers.
    Grenadier was just a title awarded to all Heer Infantry in 42/43 to make the veterans feel special =) The structure didn't really change though they were still equipped the same way as before, 1 MG34/42 per squad.

    IIRC the big reason they all had gas masks for D-Day was because the British made so much that it would be able to wipe out any invasion army after the fall of france in secret, so thought "if we were going to do it..."

    I absolutely love this video, but on the American Weapons Sprue, half of the rifles are actually 1917 Enfields (or maybe 1903 Springfields, they look very similar). That's probably my favorite detail about the weapon sprue, meaning it can be used to equip even very early American units that hadn't received the M1 Garand yet- think Marines in the Pacific early on. Sorry, that was really the only thing that stuck out, otherwise I loved the video.

    • @nehrigen
      @nehrigen 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Springfield 1903 was just being replaced in the American military at the start of ww2. Even in 1942 there was still a smattering of 1903's in American forces, and perhaps more in the USMC units (as the U.S. Army tended to get equipment faster and earlier).

    • @geGNOME
      @geGNOME 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      the metric designation is 7.62×33mm (.30 Carbine) to the Garand's 7.62×63mm (.30-06). He's still right in that it is a pretty weakass cartridge.

    The only real problem I have with both this set, and the Assault on Normandy set, is the fact that you're limited to either Americans or Germans. Where I appreciate that the biggest market for the game is going to be Stateside, after having Americans & Germans in the AoN set, it would've been nice to have some other forces in this one (ok, so you're kinda limited to Germans as one of the forces, but it would've been nice to see British or Russians as the opposing force) - just for those who have no real interest in playing Amercans or Germans ...
    I know it's a piece of complete tongue in cheek fiction (but it is a classic), in Kelly's Heroes, Oddball's sidearm is a captured Luger ...

      you can also make your own wargaming game rules by using models form modelkits n stuff and reenact battles(but that means you will have to do a lot of research in history books or other soorts of books) i love to see some early ww2 Dutch armys & battleship cruisers like you can play the indo/dutch war with the famed ships like the american and dutch agains the japanese battleships

    • @holyspiritfire8268
      @holyspiritfire8268 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +joe nardo The .30 cal. is a 110 grain bullet(a .223 is only 40 grain) at 2000fps, a bit more than puny it's actually similar to a .357 magnum except its a lighter bullet at a higher speed, but the ballistic co-efficient is there to make such a comparison. Honestly for me (an American) to hear Europeans talking about weaponry that I fire on a regular basis and yet I know they have never probably fired in their lifetime is a bit humorous. Basically what made the .30 cal. great is that the average soldier could carry three times the ammo that they could for the Garand(30-06), and yet the .30 cal was more than sufficient to kill or seriously wound an enemy soldier, quite frankly the 30-06 was a bit of overkill especially with open sights. This new idea of smaller rounds with less recoil had a major influence on the decision to go with the modern cartridges for combat rifles(7.62x39, 223, 5.56)....As far as the effective distance of a shotgun goes. I can take an 18" barrel defense style shotgun with #2 goose shot and destroy pumpkins at 30 yards, obviously not a long range weapon, but a bit more than these guys are thinking....All that said these guys do an amazing job at presenting the material and obviously have extensive knowledge about WW2 weaponry, vehicles, and uniforms.

    AK47 - From Wiki
    The AK-47 is best described as a hybrid of previous rifle technology innovations:[25] the trigger mechanism,[26] double locking lugs and unlocking raceway[citation needed] of the M1 Garand/M1 carbine, the safety mechanism of the John Browning designed Remington Model 8 rifle,[citation needed] and the gas system of the Sturmgewehr 44.[citation needed]
    Kalashnikov borrowed the long stroke piston design from the M1 Garand, with the op rod and piston mounted on the top instead of the bottom of the rifle.[27]
    Kalashnikov's team had access to all of these weapons and had no need to "reinvent the wheel",[25] though he denied that his design was based on the German Sturmgewehr 44 assault rifle.[28] Kalashnikov himself observed: "A lot of Russian Army soldiers ask me how one can become a constructor, and how new weaponry is designed. These are very difficult questions. Each designer seems to have his own paths, his own successes and failures. But one thing is clear: before attempting to create something new, it is vital to have a good appreciation of everything that already exists in this field. I myself have had many experiences confirming this to be so."[13]
    There are claims about Kalashnikov copying other designs, like Bulkin's TKB-415[2] or Simonov's AVS-31.
    Also the gewer 43 has a detachable 10 round magazine although it was reloaded with stripper clips like the K98

    Isn't MP44 technically incorrect? MP means Maschinepistole while StG means Sturm Gewehr. Just wondering, I'm no history enthusiast.

    • @GamersParadise540
      @GamersParadise540 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, it is. it's official classification was StG44, furthermore it fired a rifle round, not a pistol round like normal sub-machine guns. It's name Sturm Gewehr translates to 'storm rifle', although when associated with military hardware it can be translated as 'assault' instead, so it's name is literally Assault Rifle-1944.

    • @paulyoung4649
      @paulyoung4649 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it was originally called the mp44 because Hitler was against the development of the assault rifle.

      Shotguns were not banned by the Geneva convention, rather the Germans pushed for them to be banned and the allied powers laughed them off. They were not a common piece of gear in Europe during ww2 though.

    17:48 Actualy (sorry someone else may have done this already) Sturmgewer LITTERALY translates as Storm-Rifle, thusly being the only REAL assault rifle in existance, assault is a rough translation which is interchangable but still tecnicaly improper. Ok Sturm Gewehr translates to Storm Rifle. Assault rifle is derived from it but The correct translation is Storm as in to storm a position and the Gewher 43 fires 10 rounds of 7.92x57 otherwise known as 8mm mauser. Literally right after grinding people over calling the k98 a kar98 you make an amateur mistake like these. You look no better. This is the first corrective comment I've made on things like this in over a year. That's how much I have been lets say disgruntled. That being said you actually do a good job of showing off the kit. I'm not unhappy that you made the mistakes I'm unhappy at the fact that you talked about others making those mistakes and then you did it yourself. I haven't even watched the full video yet. I had to stop and wright this comment before continuing.

    Its a great box and what you get at an end result is awesome.but... for a starter set, do i really want to be fiddling about and building a man by arm and leg, mixing around with positions and weapons. no, i want to play the game. I think all the choices of weapons and arm selections will turn people away if they end up buying the kit starting to build it but not finishing it. It should be more standard, specific weapons to start with and a new handout which explains what else you can do with another set. The build time is what is turning me away from these kits.
    Many will disagree with what i am saying but im just giving my view.

    • @tollmart
