Why Squid Game's Season 2's Ending Tricked Us All? They Ended Squid Games Season 2 at possibly the worst possible moment. Gi-hun and In-ho, the Front Man, are face to face and we're only half way through this years games. How long are we going to have to wait until we will get Season 3 which will hopefully include some of the final 3 games and conclude Gi-hun and Jun-ho taking down the games once and for all? The ending is weird because of netflix. The writer wanted to end it with s2 but netflix wanted him to expand it and split in two seasons. S3 is like the part 2 of season 2 and it has already been shot

It was an interesting twist on the underdog character. I don't think he should be redeemed at the end. He should die at some point. It goes against trope that he didn't dive down to save the girl that was helping him, and that in itself is enough of an arc for him. I also think the old lady should have been killed off and they show the son who got her killed by voting to continue, then he too can be killed off since that would end his arc.

@@ninar597 The mother is very sweet and they did a better job of making us care about her than any other new character in season 2. That's why she needs to die, for a heartbreaking memorable moment, like with Ali (loved him too).
The frontman was badass in this season. He honestly was my favorite character.

Guard 11 is definitely going to shake things up enough to help gi-hun, but I'm also hoping the Front Man learns about the organ harvesting. The irony of that happening under his watch when the entire reason he's even there today was due to his wife needing a liver transplant wouldn't be lost on him, and would probably shake things up even more, or potentially give him the final push to help gi-hun

My theory is that he had years to think about number one being a part of the games, so when his first plan didn’t work his second to reenter the game was to get close to number one again to try and figure more out, but he also can’t tip off that he knows something is up with the first players of the game so he has to play stupid / oblivious. Idk I think that’s the twist coming in season three that he knew this shit all along

Something maybe worth mentioning - the players get tags of their choice to make it easier for the crowd to create a devision and make people hate each other. The tags don't have any other purpose but create to opposing groups. Same as in real life politics.
Good point. The numbers & tags make it easier keeping track of who's who. People who don't speak Korean are more likely going to remember the player's numbers not their names.
@Frank_Pods I mean the circle and ❌ tags. When you label someone as part of a group opposed to yours, it's easier to see them as enemy and not just human. This created an unnecessary tension between the ones who want to stay and the ones who want to go. Without the tags, there will be no such tension. It's same with republicans/democrats, capitalists/communists and so on.

It’s not only worth mentioning, it’s the entire message of this season. The way the divide the lower classes to cause in fighting and stop them from rebelling against the higher ups. It is actually so on the nose that it is funny how some reviewers fail to notice this and instead pick a side and hate on the other, just like in real life…

I think its more of us believing that as we already know that 001 is the frontman but in gi-huns situation he sees him as a player who coincidentally may have 001 and is also allied with him. Yes maybe some clues are there but I dont think Gi-hun would expect the front man to be one of his trusted allies due to which he pushes the clues aside. In my opinion when Gi-hun finds out that in-ho is the frontman which is inevitable at this point, it will be an excellent scene if executed correctly and he will be shown connecting the dots at that very moment realising that all the clues like both times 001 was given to a staff of the game itself and how the front man knew his name and in-ho used it without ever being introduced to the same. I really hope the director doesnt fumble the scene as it would be crazy character development for him when he realises in-ho shot his best friend.

Think about it, he spent years tracking down the recruiter and dedicated so much time and mental strength towards it just to go into the death game and be oblivious? I think the twist next season is going to be that he knew all along that something was up with him and may have been a step ahead of the frontman in order to get that much closer to upper management.

I feel like when Gi-hun first got there he was confident and was really persistent about what needed to be done but then his confidence and hope started to dwindle a little bit. I think it first started when he realized the chip was no longer in his tooth and then once he realized the games weren’t going to be exactly the same as it was for him his confidence and hope started to dwindle away. And then again when people still proved themselves to value money over life. How they wrote his character definitely pissed me off and was soooo frustrating especially at the end but looking at is this way gave me a better understanding.
Also I feel like I’m crazy cause I’ve seen no one mention it but..
I know it’s Korean-based but these Xs vs. Os are clear parallels to divided political views. One side is more focused on wealth and battle while the other is focused on empathy and safe withdrawl.

1:54 his wife didn’t die in 2016 when he played the game, she died in 2018 or later. When Jun-Ho goes to the grave he says “it’s been 5 years” I may be wrong w the exact year, but she died after his games.
I hated the last episode to be honest. Letting your side get slaughtered by the opposition during the fight in order to go on an absolute suicide mission? It was not delivered well and just came off as brainless and moronic and from the moment it began I just sat there kinda watching what I expected to happen.

A) It shows they are out of touch with homelessness. Most homeless people are not starving, they are just disenfranchised from society and unable to get proper housing and access to living wages and became trapped to the streets.
In develped cities such as South Korea, homeless have ample access to free food.
The bread would not have solved their issues. The lottery ticket is the better choice 9/10 times.
So it was a fuckin stupid scene that made zero sense, was out of touch, and was trying to be some sort of "gotcha" moment to justify the Squid agent's ideology.
Gi-Hun didn‘t really change in the end of season 1. He had the opportunity to choose his daughter, but he didn‘t. Just like he didn‘t before the game. Because he can‘t take responsibility for his decisions and actions (when it comes to his family).
Sure, you could say he is doing a good thing in trying to take down the game masters, but he was searching for them mostly because he became an adrenalin junkie and not out of selflessness.
He is still naive, gullible and an addict. He just switched out gambling for adrenalin. With a layer of ptsd and surviors guilt over it all.
He never had to be(come) a responsible adult and still isn‘t.

As someone who knows a lot of professional fishermen it was extremely obvious from the start, he was working for the games. I’ve never met one professional fisherman, who didn’t know exactly where they were fishing and couldn’t take you back to that exact spot with their eyes closed.
Ok, so this show has taught me to never trust 001.
i think the captin (fisherman) was one of the previos fruntmans and he bought the boat with the 45.6 billion won he won when he won the game in the 1990s or 2000s .

My absolute biggest problem with season 2 is the fact that there were too many unnecessary characters. Instead of giving us a tight cast of relatable characters like they did in season one, they gave us buckets of shallow characters that took so much screen time that they prevented giving time for the actual interesting characters like the transgender lady, the triangle lady and the mother and son. And of course, seong Gi-hun and the frontman

It took me a while to like a week or more to make sure to know all the character names.
I wouldn’t be that far fetched from some taking too much screen time, I’d say it was… fair… enough. From everyone. (I mean, one could be more into 246, even though it was shown clear, we could get more time from him. or min-su 125, (forget bout the theory floating around now. It doesn’t make sense.)
If they were to release 2 more episodes (like s1) before going to s3. Then maybe we would’ve had a tighter outlook of the characters itself along with the story and games in general, and see where they go from there as opposed to pulling the cliffhanger crap.
The message of this series is ‘what happens when poor people who have practically nothing to lose face 6 death games by rich people who think that they are nothing but trash?’. The Recruiter is obviously insane but he tries to justify it by buying 100 bread and lottery tickets to see what people think. Now most of the homeless did pick lottery which in the Recruiter’s eyes are bad, but in the homeless’ eyes good. It’s really about perspective, two conflicting sides trying to convince the other side to see their perspective and agree on it.
Gi-hun believes there is still some kindness and care in these people whilst the Front Man thinks that these people are willing to do ANYTHING, even if it means killing people just for money. And at the end of Season 2 the two agree on one thing and one thing only: that there must be some sacrifice for ‘the greater good’.
Let’s not forget that Gi-hun’s idea of storming into the control room in hopes of stopping the games are absolutely insane or the fact that it contradicts his character to just let people die. But the contradicting is intentional, because it proves that the Frontman’s perspective is winning slightly over Gi-hun. The fact that he would actually sacrifice people just to have zero chance of making it because Gi-hun doesn’t know that the person he was looking for and wanted to capture was right in front of him is just so off putting. And it proves that he changed a lot. He is still a kind person at heart, but he’s sort of grown tough towards people.
I honestly think gi-hunn knows something is up with number one. Think about it he spent years chasing down the recruiter and had years to think about how number one in the first game was a part of the organization - why would he let go of that line of thinking once he reentered the game? He probably knows something is up with number one but doesn’t want to blow HIS cover so he plays dumb and goes along with it, keeps number one “on his side” close enough to keep an eye on him without tipping him off that he knows something is up. Idk I think the writers of the show wants us to believe Gi-Hunn is oblivious but I don’t think he actually is

So I think that GI-hun knew sacrifice was going to be necessary and that he had to sacrifice his friend to truly bring down the games.
That doesn’t make sense and he had a group looking not just him. If he knew something was up with 001 why tell him his whole plan and why give him extra ammo?

3:30 No. Season 2 was supposed to be longer but Netflix decided to split it into 2 seasons. That's why it felt so abrupt
Ok so in the first game 201 players died in the first game and in this version there was only 91 which is like so much less then before then over half of the group of 4s died in the second game and the third game killed a large chunk as well it's like the creators of the game rushed around after red light green light to kill loads of people
But it makes sense, doesn't it? The whole system is constructed so that the very first game wipes off half the players,
but Gi-Hun helping people in Red Light, Green Light messed with that expectation, so naturally they'd want to kill off as many people as possible so that by the time the 6th game comes along there aren't like 30 players

The thing I want to know is were the rules regarding leaving changed just for gi-hun to show him that even given the chance to leave with the money the people would still gamble their lives or was that a change that the front man implemented for his own reasons. We know that unlike in-ho the frontman was a previous contestant and therefore can relate to the players better. He also highly values the rules of the game and the players choices.
Front man definitely acted like he was going to die. So I assume that we won’t see him participate in any more of the games
There's absolutely no way that Gi-Hun doesn't know who 001 really is or at the VERY least he's suspicious of him.
I'm calling the twist in Season 3 will be a flashback to Gi-Hun looking at a picture of Hwang Jun-Ho (the police detective) together with his missing brother and then remembering the brother's face as soon as he sees player 001 for the first time.

um, i think you missed the point of what the show is actually about. the show is not about greed, it's about desperation. in season 1, the characters choose to end the games only to discover that their lives outside the games are so awful that they might as well give everything they have to win this prize. it's about the rich elite taking advantage of the poor and desperate, willing to endure any amount of humiliation to be handed a prize
this season did so well in developing the characters that I don’t want anyone to die

Gihun is not acting stupid by trusting the front man, Inho would have tricked all our asses. He was so convincing. You also have to trust people to get some where. The only insight he could have gotten was from Jung-bae who ended up not telling him.
This show is just fabulous! Gi-Hun is great and he's very charismatic. In-ho has been just terrific. Many of you didn't like the truncated season, but ever since Breaking Bad did this, I kind of like it. And I was very glad to watch this season with such high hopes after the first season and it has not disappointed me at all. Cannot wait for the series finale!

Here’s a squid game theory that we gonna go back to from the first season to the second season.
People said that Il Nam was Gi Huns Father because he couldn’t drink milk and he would have fun. He also gives us other reasons. In the second season it’s revealed that In Ho can’t drink milk and had fun in the games. He also has the personalities that Il Nam Said. Is In Ho the front man his son? That makes Jun Ho a step son.
Probably not if you consider Inho was adopted (meaning ilnam wouldve given him up) and ilnam talks about seeing his son grow up and his fondness for him and his wife (before "losing" them). Also junhos family doesn't seem to be rich like Ilnam. But maybe he was a secret son he gave up

The craziest thing was, I was so sure the old man was the bad guy. He's number 001, and he seemed so off. Then when he died, I was like 😮 okay I have no idea anymore. It was one of the greatest plot twists I'd ever seen from any film/series.

My theory is Gi-Hun knows who 001 is. Firstly 001 knew Gi-Huns name somehow and acts really sus. Secondly when they vote for the first time, 001 was the LAST to vote. Thirdly his number is "001" I think this is the most obvious one. I think Gi is just playing along.

I would say that it is also about 40+ people left after the night fight between X’s and O’s and all killed X-players after their small rebellion… so basically we are at the same position as in S1 😮so I believe that next 2 games will be super hard to survive and we are super close to the possibility of the human chess game, especially if Frontman would want Gi-hun to be like the next “captain” of his team and to decide how’s going to live and die 😮

You can say it’s greed that motivates the Os but I think it’s deeper than that. They were locked into a state of survival and despair. They felt there was no way of “digging themselves “ out of their holes in the real world. It really illustrates how hopeless people can feel when they are just cogs in a wheel.

I didn't hate it because I waited about a week to watch Season 2 and I knew there was a cliffhanger. But man I can understand why the people who didn't know that going in hated the ending of Season 2.
My theory is that season 3 will come out on Valentine's Day 2025, the teaser at the end seems to indicate the two dolls 'approving' of each other with the green light?
Is it just me or did the second season feel a bit more rushed. I feel like the seasons has a really strong start and the end was really good but doesn't feel like all connected like it's a odd disjointed feeling throughout like you can tell Netflix is forcing the director and whole team to do things a little differently then they intend just to try and speed things up or drag certain things out.

Remember, he was stupid enough to get into a position where the Squid Games were the only way out, and while he has good intentions and is compassionate, he didn’t magically become smarter or more wise just from earning a bazillion bucks. Same with all the other characters, they wouldn’t suspect each other or learn from their mistakes because in their actual lives, they never learned from their mistakes either. That’s literally the actual point of Season Two. The people that end up in the games are there because they’re stupid, and while Gi-hun matured and understood the world more, it doesn’t mean he got brighter in his fight against it.

I'm not a strange to cliffhanger season endings... So it wasn't that buffling for me, tbh. I've seen media ending with a high-stakes, game-changing event that ends in a cliffhanger before so for me it did feel like a season finale.
When networks (I'm looking at you, fox) began becoming infamous in cancelling shows out of the blue, the seasons began being more and more self-contained until it became the new norm.
So yeah, this will continue into season 3.
Probably before may the next season comes out, the producer spoke about in in a way that was extremely teasing "maybe sooner* he said.

This show has been a little similar to HOTD for me in the way that season one was completely amazing and the writers sort of sacrificed season 2 to be a lot of set up, in order to make season 3 blow everything they’ve done before that point out if the water. One things about shows telling a huge overarching story is that not every episode and season will be as impactful as others, especially when that story isn’t fully fleshed out yet. They are cooking w this one for sure and I think after season 3 comes out people will appreciate the second season more in hindsight. It’s also worth noting this was only meant to be two seasons but they were approved for 2&3 together so the writer had to find a way to split it up. They’re setting us up for a great ending. I have no idea what that’s going to be, but I trust the direction they are going and am willing to sacrifice this season to ultimately be support for the final season
